Redline ability and Fire Control System

By Goseki1, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Grateful for clarification on Redlines ability coupled with Fire Control System with the below ordinance.

Plasma torpedoes.

Redline uses target lock as an action and gets 2 target locks >> spend one target lock to fire the plasma torpedo >> gain another target lock from FCS >> spend one target lock to reroll the Dice >> so he has a target lock for the next round?

Similarly with cluster missiles

Can redline use: target lock action for two target locks >> Spend a target lock to fire clusters >> gain another target lock from FCS so he is back at 2 >> spend a target lock to reroll the first clusters >> fire second clusters gaining another target lock from FCS so he is back at two >> Spend a target lock to reroll the second clusters leaving a target lock spare for the next round?

Cheers

OK: FCS happens AFTER the attack has completely resolved, but otherwise this is correct.

So, he gets two locks as an action, fires using one, modifies using the other, gets BOTH back, and this happens every subsequent time he shoots the same target. FCS also procs between shots of Cluster Missiles, meaning he gets two locks as an action, fires using one, modifies using the other, gets BOTH back, fires the second shot, modifies using one, gets both back, and then has two for next round.

Redline <3 FCS.

Whaaaaaaaat. That's even better than I thought. Thanks for the clarification!

Fire Control System grants a target lock on the defender after an attack, not after spending a target lock. And Redline can have a maximum of two target locks at the same time, and both must be on the same ship.

Keep that in mind and Redline is very handy as a missile platform.

And don't forget that he can get a lock purely by shooting with his primary, so if you can engage at range 3 and weather the hit, you can miss with your primary to get your lock for next round, meaning that your shot next round can be focussed AND TLed (and Chipped) for maximum hits.

A fully modded Redline is TERRIFYING.

But incredibly fragile, so the rest of your list needs to be threatening enough that he's less of a priority, or he just melts.

How does Redline get to fire clusters twice in a turn?

How does Redline get to fire clusters twice in a turn?

Because Cluster Missiles are two, 3 dice attacks...

Duh. I read that statement as saying he then fired a second attack from a second set of cluster missiles.
