Lothal and Crack-swarm

By CRCL, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I've been very impressed with the Lothal, and from what I've seen the Crack A-wings are very solid, so why not combine both!

40 Lothal w/ ABT, FCS, Hera, Chopper.

60 (3x) GSP w/ Crackshot, Refit, AT, Test, Adapt.

0 Initiative.

Just wondering if anyone has played with or against this type of list? Are their any tricks to it?

Looks solid. I like the A-wings and adaptability allows you to go to PS4 to outshoot generics or drop to PS2 and block U-boats.

I have to admit I would favour a slightly more elite build myself, something like this.

46 Lothal w/ ABT, FCS, Hera, Han, Protorps.

54 (2x) GSP w/ PTL, Prockets, AT, Test Pilot, Adapt.

You lose an A-wing but PTL is great with that dial and allows you to include Prockets for some serious burst damage. I like Han on the FCS-VCX for the flexibility and Protorps enable your rear arc without using the assault shuttle.

Not saying its better than your list, just a little different. :)

I had thought of this list, as I'm currently testing the 5 Awing Crackshot list.

Would be interesting to hear if anyone has tried it.

My reservations are that 3 As may not be enough to give blocking options as well as the fire power you'd need to support the Rebel. That might be nonsense though.

Just played a game against the exact list I was talking about. It's pretty good, I'm not sure how it compares to the 5x A-wing build, but we went to time, and the list held it's own against my Carnor + Juke-FO list. All the blockers and the Ghost's R1 bubble had me running scared a bit, and no matter what I shot at, it always seemed to survive a little longer than I wanted it to. As always that 4-dice primary is brutal.

Very cool list, you can put chips on the Lothal too. More free crits! I dunno, I've played with Han crew quite a lot, and I've never found him all that useful for 2pts. Chopper is great and gives you 2pts to play with (EM on the Ghost, VI/ Crack on the A-wings, or maybe even Wired?). I do love PRockets though!

I can attest that there was a lot of blocking. That big base just takes up a heap of space, and it has the R1 bubble of suckage for when you get caught.

I played a few games last night against this list:

Wampa,

Omega Leader,

Inquisitor,

Omicron Shuttle w/ Palpatine

First game I used 5 crackshot, adapt, Autothruster A wings.

I messed up the initial engagement and lost fairly convincingly.

Second game I swapped 2 As for a 40 pt Lothal Rebel (FCS, ABT, Hera, Chopper).

This list played pretty well, although a few of my decisions could have been better.

It came down to a shieldless Awing, a 5 hull remaining Rebel vs. a damaged Wampa and the shuttle missing a few shields.

Feeling pretty good at this point, Wampa is at R1 of the Rebel and target locked so theres a good chance my ABT can take him out and then it's just a case of chasing down the shuttle.

Wampa fires first at the Rebel and rolls.....crit, crit, crit. No mods needed.

I flip the three crits and 2 of them are direct hits. making the 5 damage needed to take the Rebel off before it could fire! It was pretty hilarious, though it stole the game from me I didn't mind.

In the same positions I think 9 times out of 10 I should still go on to win.

I think an Intel Agent taking Chopper's crew space would be handy for helping the As set up blocks, but I've got no idea where to get the point from.

I'd have to start losing Autothrusters from Awings.

Yeah, it would be great to have that 1pt for intel, but there's nowhere you can really get it from without losing important stuff. Then again I think Chopper is very useful, he allows you to hit hard even after you've K-turned. Also there's been more than one instance when I've had a console fire on a Lothal with like 10 stress on it, which Chopper can help you with.

That's the best argument for keeping Chopper around that I've heard.

With Hera on board your VCX will end up with tons of stress, and late game those nasty crits can be a real killer. Being able to flip them even if stressed could keep it on the table a turn or two longer.

It's also great to K-turn behind a ship you've wounded the turn before, take a focus with chopper, and roll 4-5 double modified dice at it. Most ships will melt to that kind of accurate firepower.

How about something like this:

Lothal Rebel with Han, Hera, Dorsal, FCS, and Plasma Torps (46)

Red Squadron Veteran (2) with R2 Astro, Integrated, and Adapt (54)

Increased firepower, survivability, and additional special maneuvers.
