Having trouble vs A wing mini swarm

By exinfris, in X-Wing

Well, ran the Bomber list. Got my as handed to me twice.

Couldn't keep the A Wings in range of the missles.

That, and my dice rolled blanks constantly. I literally only rolled two evades the entire game, and about as many hits.

Afterwards I introduced all my dice to a 3lbs sledge hammer. They will never fail me again.

It's all in the approach. It can be hard with A-wings. I hope you didn't fly them in formation. I'd spread them out in a rough line. You can kind of get some of them in range/arc that way.

Don't give up on the Bombers. It just takes some practice learning the approach. When I first started the list, I found a friend and we would play the approach over and over again until I got it.

Even if you added no epts to your aces, your original list comes in 8pts over.

But it's no big deal! My advice (in life, not just in X-wing!) is that it's always best just to say 'whoops, my bad, I missed something', rather than double down on a mistake and try and worm your way out of it. That's because people on the whole aren't stupid, and treating them as such is bad manners. People also, on the whole, respect honesty and integrity, and if you display it you change a negative assessment of your mistake into a very positive one. It's often hard to change someone's negative opinion of you, once it's in place, so being able to do so straight away is a really big deal in life. Hope you don't mind me saying this, but it's important.

Thank you.

I dont think I was being that rude pointing out his original mistake.. all he had to do was say "doh!".. and we all could have laughed it off.

I do know that, but thank you for saying it again. I was telling the truth about it deleting that part of the text. Also, sorry for coming off that way I didn't mean too.

Okay .. I was ready to drop this, then you come right back and continue to claim that I deleted/ modified your original post. What the hell?

Edit: Sorry I think I have misunderstood your original claim.

I thought you meant that I edited your post in my quote of you, I thought you were claiming that I was lying and trying to make you look bad. I apologize if you saw the comment of me insulting you in this post, that was based on a misunderstanding.

If you indeed mean that you highlighted part of your original text in your post and accidentally deleted before posting .. that is less offensive than claiming that I was lying.

But I do have to wonder where the "and check your math" part of your comment went. It would mean that you somehow precisely deleted an entire sentence inside your paragraph ... before posting it.

w/e .. I'm over it.. moving on.

Thank you, and sorry about the misunderstanding. I was claiming that I accidentally deleted that part of the post. Also, the check your math part was my fault, I should have checked the cards instead of going off of memory. Anyway, I'm dropping this. Once again sorry about all of that.

A-wings are slick little boogers. As many have suggested, the PAT (especially the Inquisitor) is a good matchup. The TIE FO is superior to the A-wing in many ways and a good match up.

In a non-swarm setup (Say you're flying Jonus Brothers or Palp Aces) slow play them. Think about where they could go and where they want to be (especially if they have ordinance). Keep them in arc and whittle them down before going in for the kill. You will need to find a way to force your advantage against them and take away their dial advantage. Force the action in areas of the play field that limit their dials (corners and near asteroids).

Above all, never let the entire A-wins swarm (or really more than 1 or 2 of them) be able to attack the same ship.

How about if you can't beat 'em, join 'em:

TIE/fo Omega with Crackshot and Comm Relay x4 (21 ea)

TIE Fighter Black Squad with Crackshot (15)

Total: 99

It has a 1 point initiative bid against the typical 100 point 5x A's and all the pilots are PS 4. The Comm Relay is the counterpart of the A's Autothrusters but better when fighting in close. The sloop will help the fo's stay in close, as well.
