New ships in Rogue One

By Green Knight, in Star Wars: Armada

Prongs are obviously there to drastically increase model fragility necessitating frequent rebuys of said model... but this is just Disney dark side 101

More Breaks = More Purchases = More Painting = Yay, Commissions!

I can get behind that.

it's in the rebels tv show its solid worth watching

Must be season 2. I have not started that season yet

This shall forever be known as Drasconimics.

might be I thought season 1 but I don't remember

Very End of Season One they make their appearance.

I believe the U-Wing has been a part of Rogue One since the earliest shown concept art:

Did anyone else go here in their head when they saw the U-wing?

Doesn't its cockpit look far more like that of a Y-wing than that of an A-wing? Square windows and detailing, laser cannons out of the nose rather than on the sides.

They've just gone for pointy bits out of the front rather than out of the back. ;)

On a side note. Rebels, actually confirms what Star Wars considers "Fleets"

I think the U Wing is going to be a troop transport.

I think the U Wing is going to be a troop transport.

That makes the forward prongs make more sense, as the U-Wing seems designed for speedy atmospheric deployment, the prongs providing aerodynamics and necessary control/maneuvering surfaces.

Being a transport also makes the ship look a LOT cooler - needed the bulk so it didn't look like it was made of paper. :P

I like it a lot more as a sort of Star Wars blackhawk. I'm expecting there to be some really cool landing scenes with ships deploying from space into the atmosphere, and the new TIE striker being an aerial superiority fighter rather than a space fighter.

Seems like: Return of the Uglies.

(For the whippersnappers, Uglies were the welding of random starfighter parts like TIE engines/wings on to an X-Wing, which frankly is a little batty. Imagine the look, and realize why they were called that.)

Fingers crossed for new capital ships. Wasn't the MC80 Liberty as the home of Rouge Squadron? Would also be a great chance to add Arquitens and Interdictors.

The TIEs almost look like the imperial equivalent of a snowspeeder... not sure why I think that.

That's kind of my hope, that they're an aerial vehicle, kind of an Imperial version of the snowspeeder.

U wing looks more like a mix of the A X Y and Buck rogers TV star fighter.

"We need a new ship..."

"Well, why don't we just do what we've done with everything else? Use some rejected sketches as EU bulls#!^ and call it new?"

"Mmmm...tempting. But I think they're starting to get wise to that."
"Oh please. Like anyone out there has realized the Queen's ship and the Naboo fighter are just SR-71's flying backward?"

"Wait...backward. Hmmm... What if we flipped the Y-Wing cockpit around so it was flying backward!?"

"Ooo. Uhp, no, wait. Then the engines don't make any sense."

"So we make them wings!"

"Well, how does it fly?"

"How the #$@& should I know? It's a toy!"

"Oh. Hey. We just stick some X-Wing engines on the front. Er. The new back."

"Hmm...this could work. But still...it's pretty obvious."

"Don't worry. We'll make it bigger. No one will suspect a thing."

Not quite:

Thing is that if these are aerospace fighters, we don't get them in Armada. Also I think they just have a fish bowl with the letters A-Z, they just pull a letter and that's what they try to design a ship around. No matter how hard they have to force it.

Its a shame if we dont get them in Armada...

You know, I get why. But that said; why do they keep naming these ships A/B/E/K/T/U/V/X/Y Wings, when in the Star Wars alphabet, they don't look anything like those letters?!
