Tarking ISD/VSD/GL no fighters

By Hamanu1, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

The idea is to simply outgun the rebel fleet (I play casually with a friend) using SW7 to turn excess accuracies into hits + XI7 and Intel officer should seriously dampen the defense tokens.

Tarkin ensures that I will have concentrate fire and/engineering tokens as every command from round 3 on would probably be enginering for the big ships that get into the frey. I use VSD as my flagship since my opponent usually guns for the ISD first and frequently destroys it (although I tend to win overall hehe)

Does this look ok?

(Note. I don't own any other ships except fighters so I can only change upgrades :))

If you plan to outrun fighters then the VSD is going to hamper your speed. For the points you could replace it with an ISD-I with no upgrades. Probably a better vessel and the fact that you now have a ship without gunnery teams allows you to take Advanced gunnery as a viable objective. Note the FAQ stops you combining a ship with Gunnery team and getting the advantage from Advanced Gunnery.

GSD: I would also downgrade Expanded launchers to APT/ACMs and use the points for Demolisher. Veteran captain can be a cheaper Wulff but with Tarkin around to hand out Navs you could put the intel officer here.

Tarkin really makes Wulff and veteran captain redundant anyway.

I feel like you do need some other AS options here. The ISD and Glad II have great AS capabilities, but only so much they can do when you're also trying to outshoot your opponents ships. I, personally as a Rebel Bomber, would love to get this list in a tourney matchup. ISDs have been felled in one go by a last+first activation of bomber carriers (specifically Yavaaris).

If you could somehow get quad laser turrets onto an ISD, then that would greatly hamper your bomber opponent at a very low cost, but You don't have the raider pack, so you should consider it. But, it all depends on your opponent. If he/she doesn't normally use swarms of squadrons, then you'll be fine without it. But QLTs would help to round this fleet out.

Putting in that second ISD as mentioned above would definitely be a big morale crusher for myself. While not sacrificing too much ship firepower

I plan on getting a second ISD sometime soon. For the time being I am forced to use the VSD despite its limitations. I didn't know about advanced gunnery and gunnery teams being incompatible. Thanks for the clarification. As for Wulf Tarkin I was thinking on using Tarking to spawn engineering tokens to make the ISD/VSD much more resilient during the shootout rounds (3+) while still having Wulf to spawn navigation tokens, but I understand what you mean. In all likelihood I should probably always use navigation with a gladiator anyway.

Yah, you're right.

This is for casual games but I understand what you mean. I'm guessing my opponent will not ise a squadron heavy build in our next game as he wants to try out the MKII he just bought in addition to experimenting with upgrade heavy MC80 though he might surprise me :) I'll consider a QLT on the ISD. Thanks for the suggestion.

I have been using nothing but Demolisher that I was looking forward to seeing how the Insidious works in game. That's why I opted for that title. :)
