*SPOILERS* Rogue One ships

By maxam, in X-Wing

Ummm...

What about Vader right there in the middle? What's up with that huh?

That's to further remind you that it's a SW movie. People might get confused in the Stormtroopers aren't wearing white or the good guys have an imperial droid with them.

Well I was hoping that meant the Sith Lord would be in the movie. Like, in a major way that warrants front and center movie spread status. But, oh well.

Rumors point to him having a bit of a Vader Down moment. Disney and LFL are being smart in their marketing. He isn't going to be revealed until much closer to release.

Just noticed they are sticking to the old EU figures for atmospheric speed. It's funny that real aircrafts from 1950ies would outrun every single Star Wars starfighter. Supposedly "atmospheric" TIE Striker with "Advanced High Speed Wings" can only barely catch this:mig-19-first-supersonic-fighter-1920x120and can't even hope to be able to follow this glorious mashine:PolAF-Mig-21.jpg

Piffle I say to you sir. The MiG-19 can barely break Mach 1.2 and the MiG-21 will run out of gas within moments of reaching Mach 2. Not to mention the fact that I'll take laser cannon over bad AIM-9B copies any day of the week. ;)

'There'll be no on to stop us this time.'

I guess the folks in Rogue One might be what he was referring to, the previous time where the Imperials and Vader in particular were kept from completing their objectives

The TIE-Striker however I feel is really unnecessary, we have 4 canon TIE variants in this time period. It isn't a particularly bad design, it is 10x better than the FO an SF. But like every EU TIE it has the same(ish) cockpit, with slightly different wings. My hope is this is an ISB issue star fighter hence why we have never seen it before.

We actually have 8 (counting the Striker):

TIE Fighter

TIE Interceptor

TIE Bomber

TIE FO

TIE SF

TIE Defender

TIE Striker

TIE Advanced

A bit slow replying, but by this "time period" I mean 1-2 years before A New Hope.

So in this time period we currently have 3-4 depending one how you count, each with distinct roles:

TIE Fighter

TIE Bomber

TIE Advanced Prototype/TIE Advanced

My point was the Striker needs to do something the above fighters do not, that would explain why we didn't see them at any other point in the OT.

I'm not a big fan of the U-wing concept art, but I think the actual ship has potential to look better. A common rebel landing craft was sorely needed in the EU. The two large prongs at the front reminds me of the Bantha-class assault shuttle, which was the rebel lander in the X-Wing comics. If the assumption that this is a lander is true we really need a new mechanic in the game for transport ships, as ~50% of the new ships for TFA and rogue one are transports. For now I am holding my judgement.

When I think of it as the next gen Y-wing, it looks alright to me. When I think of it as a troop transport....I dunno. Maybe it can do both? I kind of like it as a fast torpedo boat, personally.

This concept art image (Which is sharper than most of the others I have seen) seems to quite clearly show the U-wing carrying troops.

Ah, it's further away than I thought. That looks like a large base sort of size to me. If they did put it on a small base, we'd be taking the model off constantly to avoid knocking over whatever we were flying at with the massive front-bits... Tusks? I might call them tusks.

TIE FO and TIE SF are 30 years in the future!

Defender and Interceptor are some years ahead too.

Go figure, the Imperial Player isn't happy!

If they bring the Tie striker into the game, I wonder what the stats are going to be like?

With so many Tie variants it has to offer something different. The latest Tie Advanced Prototype, basically "copied" the stats of the A-wing. So is it going to "copy" the T-65/70 X-wing? and would we even want such a ship?

(Hypothetical)

Tie Striker

Attack 3

Agility 2

Hull 3

Shield 2

Action bar: Barrel roll (cause all Imp ships have that), Focus, Target Lock, Evade

Upgrade slot: Missile (cause Imps prefer missiles over torpedoes and munitions just got fixed).

Dial similar to X-wing but with the addtion of the 1 Turns (Imp ships are generally just better knife-fighters).

Point cost?

Why do people think it will have 3 attack dice? Look at the ship. It's only got the main Tie Fighter guns on it that the base Tie does.

I stand behind my run down of it on the Custom Card league. I have trouble seeing a BR on it with its wing set up

Look again.

For me it's at least partly not so much 'think it has 3ATT' as 'hope it has 3ATT if it appears, because we have more than enough 2ATT TIEs'.

I'm just gonna go ahead and say that trying to stat this ship out when you literally have NO IDEA what it does yet is just an exercise in futility.

So the U-Wing carries some troops? Is this the beginning of the ground based expansions? Will we also get AT-ATs and Snowspeeders? Only the time will tell... :)

Why would it mean anything? Lambda also carries some troops.

ner, it carries sabine

sabine replaces the troops with actually useful things (bombs)

Is the U-wing the rebel analogue of the DX-7?
