*SPOILERS* Rogue One ships

By maxam, in X-Wing

The images on the site have been pulled down.

Was that a blunder on their part?

What I love here is that people are actually complaining about the U-Wing being ugly, and the TIE Striker being unnecessary because it's yet another TIE.

Even though over half of those TIE designs don't exit anymore, and this is a very identifiable one.

And I, quite frankly, very much enjoy the design of this U BOAT of a starfighter The Rebellion has.

I also find it funny that TFA has updated variants of old ships, but this has brand new ones. Gives me a good solid chuckle.

I like the U Wing because it's different.

And I prefer my Ties with pointy wings. They look cooler.

I'd like a cool alpha-pass low-movement ship.

U-Wing

At4 Ag1 H4 S4

Dial has all straight greens (1-5), white bank 3 and bank 2, with red hard 3 and bank 1 and no hard 2 or hard 1.

Target Lock, Focus.

Missiles, 1 Crew.

(Named Pilot ability where all engagements count as range 1 so the ship can get 5 shots at any distance)

Basically make it to the ship wrecks house early on but has trouble turning. Hera as a copilot would be nice.

Congratulations, you've made a Defender?

Im Scum first, Rebel second, Imperial third, so I knew if a ship had already been made like this it would be some TIE I didn't own.

So wait. The community gets a glimpse at new stuff...and there is STILL complaints? I'm just jazzed to see new items.

New Stuff =/= Good Stuff.

I'm not gonna complain much because I've seen dumber things, but the new designs range from mediocre to stupid.

Over half the old TIE designs do still exist, they simply aren't canon, there's a big difference.

I always gotta spell this s**t out.

They do not exist in the canon.

But they still exist in that resource Disney claims will be used as a source for future material. Defenders, Decimators, HWKs, and YT-2400s are all already canon. Those TIE designs that aren't canon anymore do still exist, and can still appear in new material. Also that literally just re-iterated what I said.

Disney can take old ships, or it can take a Tie, give it different wings and it's about as original/exciting as the Hunter, Aggressor, Scout etc. It's a new Star Wars Ship that is canon! Just be happy it exists and might add to the game. Who cares about the name or wing configuration?

My Movie Peeps even talk'n bout... kinda fun, kinda Dam-Cools!!!

  :D

Can't wait for Rogue One

Even before seeing TFA I was getting excited about R1

Seeing the new Rebel and Empire ships makes me glad I'm taking an X-Wing timeout. Means I'll have money for when FFG release them.

It looks to me like the engines on the U-Wing will split apart like the X-Wing and the S-foils will angle out to sit in between them.

So wait. The community gets a glimpse at new stuff...and there is STILL complaints? I'm just jazzed to see new items.

That's just the way of the Internet.

- We get nothing new? Group A complains!

- We get something new, but it wasn't what was wanted? Group B complains!

- We get something new, is what was wanted, but wasn't _everything_ that was wanted? Sub-set of Group B complains!

- We get something new and is everything that was wanted? Group C complains!

Really, it just comes back to the old saying, "you can't please everyone."

I certainly don't. I just like seeing new stuff.

As the resident member of this forum that is fortunate enough to get sneak peeks of upcoming ships I would just like to say a few things about these new ships since its spoiled already.

- U-wing has s-foils that swings backwards about 135 degrees transforming the ship's U profile to a Y.

- A few of you may remember the first concept art image that was official spoiled at last year's Celebration. Its show Rebel commando's disembarking from troop transports. Those are U-wings so yes, they double as troop carriers.

- The Tie Striker has an elongated cockpit.

I have to say I fell in love with these new ships the moment I laid eyes on them, especially the U-wing. Can't wait to see them both in action:)

So a combat vessel that can carry ground troops, huh?

Sort of like an Mi-24 Hind?

That'd be interesting, but not sure how much it fits into game mechanics - unless X-Wing *is* going into ground combat. Otherwise...well, the way these guys are positioned vs the cockpit, they sure aren't going to be "crew" upgrades for it, right?

Love em both. I think the striker is just going to do stupid stupid Maneuver stuff: Kturns, Sloops, and TRolls...it'll probably also get the new Tech slot which will make it different than the Original Tie and the Interceptor. SLAM would be fun on such a small maneuverable ship.

I'd like a cool alpha-pass low-movement ship.

I'm thinking the Tech slot is going to stay Ep VII+. Besides that, why would such an old design like the Striker have more advanced tech than the Defenders, etc?

I don't see why there couldn't be a modification that allows tech upgrades. It would allow for some more combos and flexibility but wouldn't be overpowered as it wouldn't allow a combo for the older ships with their other mods like autothrusters.

Yeah I think tech should stay episode viii and beyond.

To the EU fanboys:

I know preference in design is very subjective but you can't say these are dumb without also referring to much of the old EU stuff which are frankly worse. Would it have been nice for them to use existing EU ships? Yeah, but you can bet your ass they wouldn't include any of them without changing and improving the design.

Not every ship in the EU needs to be re-canonised. I for one am glad they're ignoring the countless fan made Tie variations. Some of them are just terrible and one of them is even in XWMG! The Tie Striker and U-wing seem more elegant in comparison.

Couldn't have put this better myself.

Go get them at any of several optional printing houses... nagging FFG is just not going to work, cause if C-Dogg don't like it, and Dat MOUSE Ain't Push'n... it is NEVER GOING TO BE MADE.

But do feel free to continue being mad and sad.

The little yellow blerb on the left of the picture on the Striker says that it was designed to dogfight X-wings as a space superiority fighter and that it is a precurser to the Interceptor.
My guess is that it will be a 3 red 3 green 2 yellow fighter for slightly cheaper than an interceptor.

For some reason, that TIE looks oddly familiar...

Was it in the old Star Wars Rebellion game or something? Looks really familiar...

Still interesting... The new "wing" looks like something out of Wipeout, though. :)

It looks a bit like a TIE hunter minus 2 wings or a Phantom with one less wing and a normal TIE cockpit.

The Uwing looks like the Rebellion needed a fast ship for a mission but this cell didn't have access to Awings. So they took the cockpit from a Ywing, the engines from an Xwing and then put stabilizing front foils and called it a day. I don't think we'll see more then the one "Uwing" in this movie while the Striker looks more common.

Could be their version of the HWK-290?

The HWK-290 is perfect as it is and doesn't need other versions, young man! *sulk*

My 2 cents:

Both loook cool! (even though the TIE is indeed just another TIE, but there are many good reasons for that)

The U-Boat looks to be some kind of dropship/torpedo platform ship. Like those clone transports in the Clone Wars.

(not in the OT movies, since the only time they did a trooplanding was with an enemy shuttle)

So Large base ship, 2 ATT/2 DEF/4HULL/4SHLD 2 crew, 2 torp and a missile, Maybe a Sys.Upgrade but that seems a bit OP. Focus/TL/SLAM or Boost

No K-Turns, maybe Talon-Roll, green straights 1-4, all the banks and 2-3 turns 2-turns red?

Talon Roll on a Large ship seems cool, but hard though, since the barrel-roll tweaking at the end is HUGE on a large ship.

The TIE striker is probably an air-superiority specialist. (strange that they went with "solar panels" as i though huge panels on TIEs were heat-sinks)

(Not in the OT movies, since there are no major air-battles)

Small ship, 2ATT/3DEF/3HULL/0SHLD. 1 crew, Sys Upgrade, FOCUS/EVADE/BOOST/TL. A dial similar to interceptor.

Striker is sooooo boring... shoulda just grabbed an unused TIE variant (old canon timewimeyness be damned) and called it good. No need to come up with yet another TIE...

U-wing has a strong Howlrunner resemblance. Don't really like having new "-wings" in the BBY era but don't see anything particularly amazing or terrible about it.
