Hello Wave 10!
*SPOILERS* Rogue One ships
Isn't there that ship that got blown up in the trailer?
That looked like another lambda-like shuttle.

U-Wing
2 attack, 2 evade, 4 hull, 3 shield.
Z-95 dial (although 3-hard is red). 2 crew slots. Boost, TL, Focus.
Rather sucky unless it has some unique abilities.
TIE Striker
3 attack, 3 evade, 4 hull, 0 shield.
M3 Scyk dial, white 3-sloop. M3 Scyk abilities (Focus, BR, Evade, TL).
Interesting.

The U-wing and TIE Striker could appear to be possible early-style predecessor/prototypes of their respective X-wing and TIE interceptor.
The U-wing does have stubby S-foils and the engines look to have support struts for each one (as shown on the engineering drawing).
The TIE Striker with only two wasp-like wings has just two laser cannons mounted under the cockpit (no lasers mounted on the wingtips), but still has a higher speed than that of the TIE Fighter.

Why the TIE Striker would get 3 attack? It looks like it's armed with only 2 standard TIE/ln lasers.
But the name suggests it carries ordinance...
Dang, Disney. We don't need you to invent new TIE variants - there are so many in the EU.
BTW, the Mouse would make so many people happy if there was even the smallest scene in this movie with the Assault Gunboat...

Rogue 1 is set, what, months before A New Hope? I wouldn't have thought there'd be time for the U-Wing to be a predecessor of the X-Wing.
I think the U-Wing is more of an A-wing varient....which is not used against the death-star as it's slower than the x-wing (y-wing speeds) but doesnt have the hull/shields or the firepower (only a single torp slot) of the Y-wing
TIE-Striker - interceptor prototype, with TIE/LN firepower but interceptor speeds, maneuverability somewhere in the middle of the two

It's a junky old ship being used for a deniable-ops covert mission. It wouldn't make sense to use something new and shiny.
I like it.
The U-Wing looks to be a mishmash of different fighters (the nose/cockpit section of a Y-wing, the engines of a Z-95, the S-foil workings of an ARC-170). It could have been an early design attempt of the X-Wing and Income could have decided to go a different route to develop the X-wing.
Granted this is total speculation on my part. I was just thinking of them as to how it could be explained as to why these ships were not seen on in the later years

It has a double set of chin lasers. The (2) on the diagram only means point #2. On closer inspection it looks like the bottom 2 are on a swivel base... hello Imperial Turrets?

Like the Fairey Swordfish of the Rebel Alliance? Could work I guess! ![]()

Oh, that would be interesting!
At least it makes sense to add a turret there (with no wings on the way - I'm looking at you, TIE/sf).
The U-Wing looks very cool, but... if they wanted an old war horse, they could just canonize the R-41 Starchaser instead (even if they changed a little the design)...
EDIT: NVM, the U-Wing is able to transport ground troops, making it unique (and kind of cool). How can this be salvaged into our game? A couple of crew slots, making it some sort of Rebel's Lambda Shuttle? (judging by the action screen shots, it is quite large)
Edited by OdananI did originally wonder if this U-Wing thingymabob was more of a transport rather than a snubfighter, but I guess not.
The cockpit section is very Y-Wing-ish.

It reminds me of the snow speeder
I just don't get the reasoning behind the four engines. On the X-wing they separate but why four for this?

It does look quite deep, in the plans, I wonder whether it's a combo thing, multi-person fighter kind of like the G1A.
I'm hoping that rather than those specific little panels, the S-foils are actually those entire wings, which turn outwards and give it a massive wingspan. Otherwise I don't see what the point of having them stick out so far forward is. I like my starships to have logic behind them.
Also, I feel like the Striker would be something like 3-2-3 at 15 points, or maybe go full psycho at 3-3-2. Or they could sell millions if they made them 2-2-3 at 10 points.
Oooor they could be air-based only and be a counterpart to the rebel snowspeeder that I really hope they bring out one day in an atmospheric combat expansion that NEEDS to happen!
So the rebels stole the design for their new fighter from buck Rogers?
And we won't see that tie if it's a speeder.
Johnny Design Fella: "I've got a Y-Wing cockpit, some X-Wing engines and a pair of chopsticks left over from lunch .. what can I do with them?"
Sally Design Dame: "I dunno, all I've got is my interceptor that's missing a wing and an X-Acto knife. We have to have our designs in to Darryl Boss Dude in 10 minutes. What are we going to do?

Could be worse:

Star Wars probably sucks a bit for you then.
TIE fighter's massive solar wings are a massive target and seriously impair visibility.
The X-wing's scissor wings are functionally completely pointless, and outtrigger guns are a setback, not helpful.
And speaking of outtrigger, don't get me started on the Falcon.
The TIE looks like it has an extended cockpit, probably for extra crew to man that turret.
Both look like chop jobs though, but that was to be expected. At this point there's a very specific asthetic that the designers need to hold to.

Could be worse:
Oh don't get me wrong I like buck rogers.
