Road to Legend. Complaint or Misundertanding?

By ManiacalRaven, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

So I think this app is an awesome idea, I am glad they did it, and am waiting patiently for them to create the same for Imperial Assault.

That said, I think I have found some sloppy / lazy programming...

(MINOR spoilers)

In the first side quest, the priest's soul one... The second time the evil... acolyte guy (master flesh moulder) shows up, it says "Place 1 master <monster>" this is the guardian, and "Place flesh moulders as shown" (then it shows only a single master flesh moulder). So as it says, I place 1 master <open group monster> and 1 master flesh moulder. The only thing is, as each of these 2 groups activates, it shows activation for minions and master, for each group. When you click the "defeat unique" for that group, it still assumes there are minions around, and you have to also say defeat group. I can see how this might be useful for if I did not defeat all the minion flesh moulders from earlier in the mission, there actually still might be minion flesh moulders. But the app already knows I defeated those minions! as I earlier told it defeat group...

Minor qualm I know, but this caused me and my buddy a lot of confusion as we were not sure we placed the "groups" (actually just 1 master each) correctly. I went back through some test campaigns to make sure, and yes, it told us to place 1 master and 1 master, then it acted like there was a whole group there should be activating and killing us.

Is this just a tiniest oversight in the coding, or did I somehow misinterpret how these monsters were supposed to be placed? I cant imagine it would be that hard for the app to know... 'I just told you to place only 1 master monster, so there is only a unique on the table, and not a whole group'...?

(and yes I realize sometimes there will be a unique within the group, like the first time the master acolyte flesh moulder guy showed up)

And I just found it buried in the Road to Legend rule book (also why are the rules impossible to find, unless you link straight from the app?)...

"

Note that the app always displays both master and minion activations
regardless of the situation on the map. For example, if all minion zombies

have been defeated, the minion zombie activation still displays..."

So at least I know I was not misunderstanding the spawns, but my point still stands, it can not be that hard for the app to (sometimes) know there is only a master / unique, and not any minions...

If there are none of one type of monster (minion or master or unique) I just hit the all X has gone button at the bottom and essentially skip it. So basically I only resolve the activation for figures that are actually on the board. Makes sense to me. The app is not tracking figures so Its just going to give you all the possible options to cover all the bases.

You only place figures if it respects group limits, unless the app specifically tells you to ignore group limits.

I'm not sure I understand completely what you do, but it's imperative to hit the Defeat Group button, because this staves off Peril and progresses the Quest.

On another note, if you select Defeat Group and there's a Unique Monster in that Group, it will also tell the app that that Unique Monster is defeated.

They're in the Descent page's Support section , along with all of the other rule books.

I think that's what oldtimer meant. X as in placeholder....

(at least I read it like that)

The second point with the App tracking which monster is still there makes the unique monster weaker in my opinion...

Because the effect of "All minions get +2 Damage" doesn't count for the unique monster (at least if it is the master version).

At the moment it doesn't really influence quests or anything if you just have to press the "all minions activated" part of the activation. Most monster groups are not longer in the game as 3 turns or so anyway...

BUT: they could make that work anyway... maybe in a future update?.

I think if take the time to read over the very short rulebook and play out the tutorial quest then anyone can see it's pretty simple and straightforward. However I understand if you're not fluent in English this can cause complications as this is a very text heavy game.
