Road to Legend Quest Help

By keschnell, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Hello,

Today we played two concurrent three player games of Road to Legend with two Descent sets. We used two different iPads from the host (I'm assuming using the same iOS account) and both games started by skipping the tutorial. We did level up in town (3xp each when we clicked the training button) and bought gear and left to quest. One group picked one side quest (it had barghests and flesh moulders, but I can't remember the name) and our group picked the Merriod/treasure chest quest (we wanted to play different side quests to start because only one set was painted so we were hoping to get different monsters). We both picked the first save slot on separate iPads (no other save slot was previously used) and played two three player games.

We were doing pretty well with the merriod quest, killing Rylane Oliver and getting the key, and then all of a sudden a shadow dragon +9 health (19) appeared via major peril. So he blocked the hall and with another +5 peril effect, wiped us. We went back in town and then advanced one week (just once) just to see what would happen with the game. Maybe this was a mistake.

When we left town, the only quest left seemed to be the final quest, which we would be tackling with limited experience and after only one other quest. We thought you would get 4 quests in this campaign, and are wondering what we did wrong. Could there be an issue with cloud saves where it treats two different games for the same iOS account using the same save slot on two different iPads? Any help would be greatly appreciated, as it doesn't seem right that you would fail one quest and then have to face the final quest (I'm assuming this would be near certain death).

Thanks!

You didn't do anything wrong, there are 4 Quests but that is including the Tutorial, 2 side quests and Finale. Technically there really is only 1 Storyline quest here, Its kind of a teaser to the App and Kindred fire's full campaign will be the bread and butter. As far as the merriod quest goes that Shadow dragon is part of the quest and not a major peril. He spawns soon as you pick up the Key and blocks your path(He is the cuase of the tenticles petruding from the map). The map also ends with his death. I didn't actually loot any of the boxes because we killed the dragon in our way first and it just completes afterwards. Following that you get Gold and no XP from side quests (just like the normal game) So it doesn't really have a huge impact on the final quest. The difficulty of the app is rather brutal on people who really take there time doing the quests. Perils ramp up pretty fast forcing you to push through the quests at a faster pace

As far as I understood, Final Quest happens after 4 weeks whatever you did before.

4 quests is a bit misleading. Technically there are 4 quests - the tutorial quest, 2 sidequests and the final quest. If you fail a sidequest, you don't get another shot at it. But considering the other sidequests wasn't available to you, I'd say that was the case - the single Apple ID shared the save game.

There are 4 quests - the tutorial one, 2 sidequests and the finale.

After skipping tutorial you had 4 weeks.

1 week to go to the town(1st time). Once you are in town you can close and open the town screen as many times as you want without changing equipment or advancing time.

1 week to go to the sidequest(failed)

1 week to travel back to town(it's not free!)

1 week wait

So you used all your time and were forced for the finale.

From my tests it seems that once you finish a quest and have 0 weeks left you still can travel to town, even though it shouldn't be free. According to rules:

When a story quest has no weeks remaining, players must resolve that story quest next; they cannot travel to any other location, resolve any other quests, or resolve anything that requires one or more weeks.

Visiting a city requires one week, and players do so by selecting the city on the screen.

So for this campaign best things you can do if you don't mind abusing the bug:

go to town -> sidequest -> town -> sidequest 2 -> back to town for free -> finale

or this, if you are fair player:

sidequest (more gold) -> town -> sidequest 2 -> town -> finale

This way you'll get KO count refreshed between each quest. Remember that training doesn't use up weeks, so you can do it before first sidequest. You don't need to visit town to train!

Sidequests give you only fame and gold. Fame makes better stuff appear in shop. In RTL selling items always costs the same price as when you bought them, so it's always good to buy equipment, even if it's not best stuff in deck. I don't think "wait 1 week and pay 150GP for 1xp" is worth it unless you have a hero that REALLY would shine with 4xp and is garbage with just 3xp.

Thanks, I really appreciate the help!

Hi Areinu,

I have everything for Descent JITD and noticed that when we added all the expansions and Heroes and Monsters to the Collection, we unlocked side quests. Are those eligible to be used in this mini-campaign, or are the two side quests set? I'm curious if we can play this a bunch of times until the full campaign arrives to get a large choice of side quests, or if we will be limited to just a few right now. Thanks!

The side quests from expansions will be only available in the next campaign.

I don't think that's the case. He stated he did skip the tutorial, then he traveld to the city and trained twice that means he spent 3 weeks. After that his group attempted to clear one side quest so he spent all 4 weeks.

If you got no Weeks left, you can only attempt the mainstory quest (since it has "0" on it's week counter).

Remember: traveling to the city takes one week, training takes one week each and attempting a side quest takes one week. You don't loose weeks for doing the Tutorial Quest.

(I tested that just now, seems to work like I say) ;)

Though I did notice once after running a Sidequest and being defeated, and all weeks spent, we could still enter the City to regain Morale...

Maybe it's a bug/exploit or maybe FFG was just being nice since it's the tutorial campaign?

Or it only costs 1 week to go to a city but you won't need more weeks to go to it if you went there already?

Or it could be possible you ARE at the last city you were at when you lose a (side-) quest?

Maybe someone tries it out / remembers some kind of pattern there? ^_^

Maybe it's some kind of "Mulligan", if you use your last Week to run a Side Quest, lose, and go down to 0 Morale.

You would be stuck otherwise.

yeah I checked it out, you still do travel step between lost side quest and city, interesting...
