Stealth Device Q

By Adam123, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hey,

Can someone please tell me-

If I take a hit with Stealth device upgrade do I lose a shield when I discard Upgrade? or just the card ??

I have played a game where just the card was discarded and another where opponent wanted card and 1 shield discarded.

Thanks in advance

You take the damage as normal and lose the upgrade.

You take whatever damage the attack dealt after the Compare Results step, and discard the card. This might be shields, it might be hull, it might be shields and hull depending on the ship.

It's possible to be hit and take no damage in a couple of ways - Tractor Beams, xx-23 Thread Tracers, and Lt Blount. In all of these cases, you would lose the TB but no shields or hull as they're hitting you but dealing no damage.

It is also possible to take damage and not be hit, thus keeping your Stealth Device even though you've taken damage. Some examples of this:

Splash damage from Ruthless or Assault Missile

Damage from Bombs

Darth Vader crew

Feebback Array

Overlapping obstacles.

If you are "hit" you lose the SD. It doesn't matter what the end result of that "hit" is because the SD is gone anyway. Generally when "hit" you will give up a shield token if you have one or take a card if you don't but then you have someone like Lt. Blount who can cause a ship to be "hit" without doing anything except throw an attack its way.

Consider this. If losing the SD means NOT losing a shield, or taking a card to hull, it would be FAR BETTER than the more expensive Shield Upgrade. Not only would it make it less likely the ship takes any damage in the first place it would also automatically negate as much damage as the SD would. Does that seem right to you?

Got it...Cool, thanks for help

You can be hit and not take damage, and take damage without being hit, or even being attacked.

Weird.

Wampa too

That wasn't meant to be an exhaustive list but Wampa is probably important to call out since damage from his ability not counting as a hit may be a little counter-intuitive to some folks.
