Confused about 'spend' meaning

By Cybermat47, in X-Wing Rules Questions

When a card instructs you to spend a target lock or a token, I understand that the target lock or token is removed from the play area, and no longer effects gameplay.

However, when you spend a target lock or token, are you not allowed to use that specific target lock/token in the game again? In other words, are both players given an equal amount of focus and evade tokens that they will eventually run out of? And can one spacecraft acquire a target lock multiple times, or only once?

Hi Cybermat,

Spent Focus/Evade Tokens and Target Locks just go back to the pile and can be used/reused as much as game requires.

There is no limit on the amount of tokens used in a game, the tokens are only limited by the actions your ships can take.

maybe this help you:

when you spend money you can use the same coin again ?

No, you don't ever run out of tokens. A spent token goes back in the general pool of tokens to be used again. If somehow you don't have enough tokens for all the ships on the tables that need them, you are allowed to use any substitute you want (such as scraps of paper or coins) to represent extra tokens.

In general, each ship can only create a single Target Lock (there are special exceptions, which need not concern us right now). However, multiple ships can create Target Locks on a single enemy ship.

Usually I keep my tokens on the pilot cards.

When I perform a focus action or acquire a target lock, I place the token by the ship on the table.

When I spend a focus token or target lock, or remove a focus at the end of a round, I just put the token(s) back on the pilot cards.

In general cases, I would bring one of each type of token that a particular ship would need (target lock blue/red, focus, evade, cloak, etc. as needed).

A ship can acquire a target lock multiple times during a game (in multiple rounds), but at any given time (generally) only has one target lock.

Well, no, not unless it's one of those with a string on it like you'd use to cheat a 1920's vending machine.

Although that's an interesting idea for a variant game: each player starts with a certain number of Focus, Evade, and Target Lock tokens in their supply, and when you "spend" one you actually give it to your opponent, who adds it to their supply. Run out of Focus tokens in your supply? You can't assign Focus tokens to your ships. Sorry!

The RPGs have a mechanic like that, actually. :)
