Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight

By Dagonet, in X-Wing Off-Topic

So I picked up the Humble Bundle a while back and finally got around to giving DFII a go. After some issues with getting it to work (still not at the best resolution, but getting there), there was the familiar mumble of the Gran walking away. Two shots in the back and we are off to the races!

It is amazing how much I still remember from a game I haven't played in a long time. A looooooooonggggg time. Like 16 years or so? At least?

But there it was, waiting for me: the rifle hidden behind the bar. As always.

This is still a fun game. Maybe not as technically advanced, but who cares!

Can't wait to get my saber again.

Meanwhile, also installing the XWA Upgrade.

Still the best Star Wars game OF ALL TIME..

I know they are cheesy but I love the fmv from that game, and I still tear up when the crow crashes.

I still think Tie Fighter is... But its a close second.

I miss the live actor cutscences in games. Helps the characters feel more real. Of course now the CGI has gotten nearly lifelike.

I do love all the Dark Jedi getting into the LCG.

Fine ... I'll buy DF2. Geez, stop nagging!

I recently picked up a bundle with Dark Forces all the way up to JKII. For some reason, I went straight to JK (skipped Dark Forces even though that was the main reason I bought the pack as I never played the original), but Dark Forces 2 just brought back a lot of memories, that first level that dropped you straight into "star wars mode", the cheesy CGI which I loved and hoped they had kept it when moving to Jedi Knight 2...Getting that lightsaber (even though it looks oddly disproportional to your character, but maybe it's just me.)

I felt all fuzzy inside when reading this...Brilliant!

JK2 is better. :P (DF2 is pretty good too)

You know, on my old PC JK had issues with the graphics card. I may have to install it on the new to see how it goes. JK2 and JK2 Academy are better games, but JK1 had a certain soul to it. MOTS even more so.

I personally think JK2 had the best story (while being right behind JKA for best actual gameplay), but I'm slightly biased as I played JK2 and JKA way before I ever played DF or JK1

I've played them all.

I remember having an addon map for dark forces where you played a stormtrooper retrieving a TIE Defender from one of Zaarin's bases.

sogood.

Jk2 was my favorite

But I spent way too much time making my own levels in gtk radiant and uploading them to jk2files.

Now I want a WeeGee crew card.

And I forgot how terrible the acting and scripting was, Kyle's father like a surrogate Jor-El and Kyle is a Will Riker ripoff :P
