What Exactly Does Everyone Want?

By AdmiralThrawn, in X-Wing

It's all been said, but I want more focus on casual play, more focus on epic play, and squad synergy.

It would be great if flying Red Squadron was different than Rogue Squadron was different than Wraith Squadron, even if all three builds are X-Wings.

Or that flying Black Squadron doesn't just mean I've got 8-12 of the same pilot card in play.

And a Skipray Blastboat would be nice.

I want an official statement, in the form of a blood oath, from ffg stating that they will never make prequel ships.

I want a huge scum ship that looks mean and feels disgusting with its level of trickery so that I can wiggle my fingers with a sadistic smile on my face...

I'm a very nice guy in real life, but that's only because I can express my Scum side in X-Wing :P

I think I most want more opportunities to play this awesome game! ....stinking job, working on the house, etc. keeps getting in the way. Errrrrrrr.

But to set a reply into the specifics of the question of this thread, I have two "wants" that I think would do the game some wonders:

1. Turret ships modification: Add a simple clear plastic directional dial that goes over the stem receiver location and sets a 120 degree turret focus (independent of the direction of the ship, obviously) that allows full die attack in that arc and half dice attack in the remaining 220 degrees. This would better simulate the gunner's ability to get a better shot at a target that he's looking at, save one that he has to swivel and find/target outside his original view. Plus, it makes turret flyers think about more than distance and obstacles.

2. Tournament variant: I think a cool idea for a tournament (I do this with my nephews at home) would go something like this, 1) the tournament would be set through a certain wave of released ships, 2) tournament sign-up would be done devoid of ship/upgrade lists, 3) ship allocation would be issued to the applicant via a random algorithm allowing for as many variables as possible but boxing in the applicant to a maximum of 7 ships of a faction selected by the algorithm, 4) the player then fields his formation from the list with whatever upgrades and numbers he can in the rounds of the tournament with the stipulation that no miniature can be utilized more than once on the table per said round, 5) the player can however modify his list as long as the ships are selected from his original 7.

Creativity......ensues.

I can't speak for everybody.

But personally I find the constant barrage of negativity starts to wear down my happy. Before I realise I'm being affected, I start to find things to moan about. Next thing I look at my miniatures which sit unused and find I can't be bothered to get them out. With enthusiasm waning I look for something else and avoid all the naysayers and angry nerds.

Sometimes though I can be brought back from the edge of the abyss. Perhaps a cool new model catches my eye, or I find myself among people who are enthusiastic. Even among people who may not like something but don't ram it into you that you have to hate it because they hate it. I don't get down when people disagree, only when the swastikas come out and they start goose-stepping over other's excitement.

I'm a happy and enthusiastic geek who finds angry and apathetic nerds depressing.

(I should probably mention that I am emotionally damaged so can get down easily if I read/hear/watch/experience too much negativity)

Friday I packed my X-Wing models into a box with the Imperial Assault Core box I planned on selling off.

Saturday I started to look for something new to get excited about.

Sunday/Monday bathed in the glorious warm light of happy and enthusiastic geekdom.

Today, seeing nobody was interested in my X-Wing and IA stuff, gave them a stay of execution. Unfortunately I'm now back on the forums here (after having to create a new profile) and the negativity continues.

What I want is more topics about enjoying the hobby. Excitement about any announcements rather than instant criticisms about unknown performance. Seriously! Most of the topics after the Heroes of the Resistance were trashing it. More positive topics were hijacked by the doom and gloom brigade and their repetitive mantra of misery.

I want to be able to enjoy seeing and anticipating new stuff without being venomously attacked for it.

I want to be able to discuss with others what we'd like to see released without being venomously attacked for it.

I want to read about someone enjoying the hobby without seeing those people being venomously attacked for it.

Stuff like that.

world peace and 20.000$ cash.

I appreciate those who took the time to read that I'm referring to what STATE of the game you would all enjoy most.

Tell me what you want. What you really really want.

I'm thinking you are speaking for everybody.

I usually overlook any whining or b****ing; I chalk it up to passionate players who have something in their crawl that they just want to vent about. Usually it's related to a bad game experience or pattern that could use some adjusting that might just happen if they take some of the awesome advice that floats like beautiful fall leaves on the stream of background chatter on this forum. In the end, if you enjoy/play the game, you're gonna run into some localized "barrage(s) of negativity" that can take your joy away. Don't let 'em. There's a plethora of good threads and helpful, funny and uplifting posts.

Do not sell your x-wing collection just yet. If you do, we will loose someone who speaks for us all.

Peace

You have to find what makes you happy. I've even started a podcast for Casual X-wingers. It's been fun, but now my enemy is free time.

Fear not,

I've just posted about a global X-Wing campaign I hope to launch next year. Nothing gets me going like protecting a planet from the Empire.

I'm simply trying to steer the conversation a different direction. Yes was a little insistent because that was the second time I tried to do so, not trying to force anything on anyone. I apologize if some of you took it the wrong way.

I want two ship lists to not be as good as they are. Maneuvering and positioning is by far the best part of X-wing. For me, when there are tons of ships on the board that is when X-wing is most interesting/most challenging. Flying a TIE swarm is hard, the skill required should be rewarded with victory.

I wish regionals top 8 was filled with these sorts of lists:

4-5 ship rebels

5-7 ship imperials

4-5 ship scum

Right now only tie swarms are even somewhat close. (hooray crackshot!) Even those are marginally good, only getting occasional wins.

I know there are valid arguments against, lets say, a 'Rogue Squadron' title card that gives a bonus if your list has 4 X-wings, but in this age of 4-attack, buffing squads of X-wings would fit nicely into the meta.

that's what you get when you forget to end with a smiley :)

"What Exactly Does Everyone Want?"

- Gunboat

OK, not everyone...

Not sure if I replied or not. I tried several times and found myself getting long winded.

I want X-Wing to remain a game of changing meta and high level competition allowed by a tight ruleset. I also want X-Wing to remain accessible and low cost in terms of time and money.

Now I'll just hit post before I start waxing poetical.

apparently, people here don't want new OT Era starships.

I mean, that's what the new Rogue One topics are saying.

They ain't gotta buy 'em... go to sleep mean-ole-men!

The rest of us are Hap-Hap-Happy!!!

I just don't get it. Brand new, OT Era ships that look perfectly OT-like, and the U-Wing in particular looks like a really solid entry...

And somehow, just, some-f***ing-how, people are disappointed? Why? How? It's getting really, really annoying.

Remember, there are people that don't like TFA because it's too much like Star Wars.

Checkmate good sir, you win these forums.

I want JBR7 to give me a good post image. It's my main x-wing ambition.

I want tighter rules. They're decent but somewhat frustrating at times as interesting new mechanics are added but muddied by inconsistent or shakily written rules.
