Is the YV (even remotely) viable in the current meta?

By GlobeTrotting, in X-Wing

This is the very viable Bossk build that won the 68 person Denver regionals this past weekend.

Bossk, Crack Shot, Concussion Missile, K4 Droid, 4-LOM, Guidance Chips (44 points)

Dengar, Punishing One, Deadeye, Plasma Torp, Extra Munitions, Recon Spec, R4 Aggro, Guidance Chips

Trandoshan Slavers can be good too

Looks pretty sweet! I'd go for VI and EU, but thats personal preferance.

Edit Actually screw that, I am boring. This is what I am obligated to do with this knowledge:

Bossk (45)

YV-666 (35), Crack Shot (1), Concussion Missiles (4), K4 Security Droid (3), Boba Fett (1), 4-LOM (1), Guidance Chips (0)

Dengar (55)

JumpMaster 5000 (33), Predator (3), Tactician (2), Unhinged Astromech (1), Punishing One (12), Engine Upgrade (4)

Thats going to be one hell of a missile!

I too would go with VI over crackshot, but that one is a matter of preference, both are good of course.

Yeah it takes some thinking through cause engine is good on Bossk, but it's a simple comparison.

Engine (4points) -verse- Concussion Missile, Chips (4 points)

The missile is highly likely to do 5 damage at range3 minus any evades rolled. In many matchups Bossk won't live long enough to make use of engine while the missile is always going to pay for itself.

It's harder to pull off, but cluster missile Bossk with Dengar crew + chips has a reasonable chance of doing 8 damage.

However in some matchups EU is exactly what makes Bossk live longer. Its a really interesting consideration. If the missile is paired with Boba its even more interesting! I might want to get Greedo into the mix, so Bossks ability can be used on the missile...

This is something I want to try, I call it the stress-box.

Moralo Eval (34)
Ion Cannon (3)
Bossk (2)
Tactician (2)
Gunner (5)
Engine Upgrade (4)

Currently 3-0 on Vassal with this beauty:

Moralo Eval, HLC, EU, K-4, Zuckuss, 4-Lom

Dengar, Pun1, Outlaw Tech, Lone Wolf, Overclocked R4

Moralo can easily 2 shot any ace, and his 180 degree arc and EU make it really hard to avoid him. He is also beefy enough to tangle with U-boats, shuttles, Han, Decimators, etc. Dengar is the ultimate closer. Lone Wolf, OCR4, and Outlaw Tech come together to open up the dial completely and allowing insane offensive and defensive modification. And his ability is just amazing, my favorite part of a game is whenever my opponent has his first chance to attack Dengar and has to stop and think if he really wants to. One Deci/Gunner/Vader decided it wasn't worth it, one tricked out G-1A decided to try it and dealt 1 damage to Dengar while taking 5. Love it.

4-lom K4 Zuckuss HLK Eval dishes out so much hate Fels went extinct in our meta (6)

Every Scum list I start to make seems to start with Slaver with Engine Upgrade and Feedback Array. It's a very effective blocker (and beatstick) against Contracted Scouts, and it's a solid blocker and zone of death against aces. You can splash in any of the very effective Scum crew as desired.

I'd think that I'd try to find 1 point to make that concussion missile a Homing Missile. With 4-LOM and a Homing Missile you can keep your target from spending any evade tokens and one of their focus tokens Guidance chips gets you your crit and Crackshot can make sure damage gets pushed through. .

Edit: actually, there may be a slight loss in accuracy, since you would not have the TL/focus but only the focus.

The Glorious YV-666 is one of the best ships in the whole game... periods.

Bossk + VI + Engine Upgrade + Dengar + Gonk + 4-LOM

I do well with it. Hits like a truck.

Add in 2 Ruthless Freelancer G-1As with FCS and Inertial Dampeners...

It's what I call the Brittle Brick.

Because while it's easy to hit....

You've got 28 health to chew through...

And they all hit like a **** brick.

Eh YV is perfectly fine..if anything the wave 8 crew cards actually boost its performance.

Now Scyk, excluding Laetin, is an entirely different story.

Latts Razzi with Gunner, Bossk, Weapons Engineer should kick ass. Add Glitterstim and Countermeasures so you don't instantly get wiped by U-Boats and you should have a pretty powerful anti-ace railgun.

One of these days the rest of the world is gong to catch up with our local meta. Here we don't see three Scouts. We see two Scouts and a Slaver with Dengar, Zuckuss and 4-LOM. In fact that 34 pts ship is point for point one of the most effective ships in the game. It's guaranteed to send and cold shiver down the spine of Whisper, Fel, Vader and The Inquisitor. High chance of three hits, ability to pin a token, can force re-roll of evades and doesn't care much about stress. It's a really nice anti-Ace 34 pt ship that pairs exceptionally well with Scouts. Try it! You'll like it!

I have won tournaments with both Bossk and the Slaver. My current list uses the Slaver with 4-Lom, Dengar and Zuckuss which is mentioned above (with an added Feedback Array for extra Ace killing goodness).

You can see the list here. It is currently the 25th most viewed list on Squadron Builder, so one day I hope to meet someone who has copied it in competitive play!

Hehe. I ran that last night against a friend for his Regional practice. Needless to say that he's now taking that list to the event. It's pretty damned punchy, that's for sure. It's also nice to have a big, lumbering blocker who can take a few torp hits and hit like a ton of bricks in a 180 firing arc.

Maybe it's finally catching on?

Slaver with Bossk, Dengar, and Gunner hits like a **** truck, and isn't too expensive at 40 points.

Also been running the hell out of Bossk with VI, EU, Mangler, Outlaw Tech, and K4. 49 points isn't cheap for a 1 agility ship, but it can get its points back very quickly.

I have been running a variant of your Bossk with Attani Mindlink, ID and Boba Crew, paired with an Attani Kath Scarlet (Attani/EU/K4/ID). Both are only PS7, but with the auxiliary arcs on both ships they cover a lot of the board. The shared stress isn't a huge deal since you can decide the order they activate in each turn (barring the PS'0' crit). It opens up the YV dial a bit, provides for plenty of TL + Focus shots, and has really been a fun list to fly.

Slaver with 4LOM, Zuckuss, and Dengar IMO.

I thought we'd all agreed that this 34pt masterpiece would henceforth be known as "Dengar's Party Bus", or "Party Bus" for short.

Dengar's Party Bus is boss.

I agree, the name "Dengar's bus" does need to catch on.

Edited by Dengar5

I don't like the association with Dengar. It should just be the Party Bus. Who's to say 4-LOM or Zuckass don't want it named after them as well? Bounty hunters are greedy individuals that will never agree on letting the others get the name.

The one who costs the most points is obviously in charge, though I'm cool with Party Bus for the sake of brevity.

All in favor?

Too be fair, it is "kinda" Bossk's ship, so he should get the name (even if it is being loaned out to his less important cousins). But I like Party Bus. Short and sweet.

I am worried about a triple Uboat getting off three plasmas at it though, five hits on the first and then two fours is enough to one shot it and I'm not confident I can get the two evades necessary off three single green dice rolls required to keep it alive.

May have to throw the uboats in to joust first (at least they can fire simultaneously) and follow up with the slaver just behind.

Jonathan Reinig won CO regionals with a Dengar/Bossk combo.
