Eccentric Acquisition ideas

By Kaiohx, in Rogue Trader

So I'm curious what some of you have come up with for 'odd' acquisition ideas after all of the guns, armor, ammo, grenades, and other such things have been bought. Perhaps a case of strange xeno delicacies? Maybe a weird pet of some type?

This was the topic of discussion we had late after a night of gaming when my players finally found themselves back in a civilized port after a trek out into the Expanse. Some of the ideas were very.... disturbing. Questions such as "What would I have to do to acquire a human baby? What modifiers would there be if I wanted it to be healthy? Or nobleborn? Perhaps I could somehow find a trafficker of tau children?" Needless to say it was a funny, if not demented, discussion where it was stated "The question in Rogue Trader is not why, the question is why not?"

As an affluent member of the Imperium with almost limitless influence, what does one do after you have all of the wargear your looking to get?

Hmm...sometimes, I am just a guy. So why not going about gatherin an exquisite harem with the most beautiful women one can optain on a given world? I know, this IS an easy task...but hey, sometime you have to enjoy the simple things in life, right? angel.gif

A wine cellar for your ship.

The bones of a hero of the IG (or even the Astartes) inscribed with prayers and blessed in sacred oils.

A xeno-breed hunting hound.

A xeno-breed mount.

Custom small craft, like the Praetor-class Military Lander I made up for a Voidmaster PC of mine. Came with a vehicular refractor field (it was archaeotech, so don't say "It can't be done!")

Fruit from the trees of death worlds.

Elite death world mercenaries, trained from the moment they could walk in warfare to survive the battles against their nefarious xenos enemies.

Or maybe an odd combination of existing items, like Light Power Armor with in-built Cameleoline cloaking fibers.

One of my players, the same who took a sector wide informant network for her free acquisition, is currently looking to acquire any kind of rare featherless shoulder bird for the captain (the closer it looks to a cooked chicken, the happier she'll be) -I had finally made her watch Ice Pirates which I can't believe she's lived this long drenched in cult movies but hadn't seen that one.

A Land Rader. Nothing tells your enemys who is really one tope then a nice set of tracks. I figure its also a nice way to show backwater human civilizations what the power of the Imperium is all about. This should be possible right? I mean, with all the fighting going on in 40k, there should be a few lying around, even if they are old and possibly were first owned my a CSM Legion. There are causes of equitment from CSM being used without any chaos taint right?

Things my rogue trader group has bought/hired/aquired beyond weapons, armour and gear:

-A band so that a PC can have theme music/mood music (he is trying to aquire personal force fields so they can accompany him into battle safetly)

-A midget who follows a paticular PC around wearing a special hat that has a drink holder, ashtray and writing implements so he never has to worry about finding a table

-A taxidermist so that their kills can be properly preserved

-A poet so their deeds can be recorded in epic verse

-A battle caddy (basically one of the PC's has a man who follows him around, carries his weapons, re-loads them for him and suggests which one would be best for the paticular target)

-Snakes to rid their ship of rats

-Mongoose (Mongooses? Mongoosi?) to rid their ship of snakes (at this point I stopped them as I could see it would probably go to wolves next followed by bears.....)

-A void suit for a horse (so the rogue trader can ride into battle even in space)

Now that list is 31 flavors of awesome! partido_risa.gif

Apparently you start acquiring planetary holdings, more ships, millions of slaves or citizens, halo devices(oops!) xenos tech, archaeotech. Then you go insane and purge your bloodline away while using your halo devices, ships, and holdings to cause chaos.

Etherea... Um , i mean , Emperor help me , i'll probably die laughing XD

What i like best is a void suit for the horse XD

Oddly in my current campaign our Arch militant has also tried to acquire a gun caddy. In his case a servitor (preferably of a defeated foe) with a wheelbarrow like attachment to shuttle his guns around for him.

Our Rogue Trader captain also wanted a troupe of actors to impersonate him in dangerous situations. He already has a scribe to chronicle his thrilling exploits.

I think, you can blame the computer games industrie for it. Dooms Little Helper, anyone?

This is amazing stuff lol partido_risa.gif

I especially like the gun caddy and void suit for the horse.

I can just picture it:

"what do think jeeves? The Archeo Hunting rifle or the Nomad?"

"I think at that range the Nomad would be the prime choice Sir"

I also now can't get images of a mad Rogue Trader riding along the barrel of a Starbreaker Lance on his void horse screaming "Chaaarggge!" .

Scribe? You want a proper Remembrancer, not just a lowly scribe...

On a similar note, I've seen requests for a Servitor with Trade (Copyist) for an Astropath, along with an MIU link to connect the two, so the Servitor can transcribe the Astropath's incoming messages for him...

Better get a couple. I can imagine them getting burned out a lot.

One of my PC's has a pet snotling...he even saw fit to give him a little autopistol.

I'm liking the horse-void-suit thing too, maybe some magnetic horseshoes for riding on the outisides of ships as well?

I like this idea. But remember that the way orks reproduce, you may be spreading ork spores on every planet you visit. Not that this matters to a RT, but it can have interesting effects.

Every planet? Forget that; his ship is going to have a squig infestation soon if it doesn't already.

My rogue trader has a Cthellean Cudbear with a MUI link just in case anybody gets too uppity.

Nothing says eccentric like a huge, snarling, purple bear.

One of my players came up with a list of things he'd like to acquire in the upcoming campaign, for the cool factor. In no particular order:

  1. One of those bicephalic psyber-eagles.
  2. A Jokaero spy-fly net.
  3. A flock of servo-skulls whose only purpose is to supply him with fresh cigars and amasec.
  4. 400 honest men. To bury alive under a tower proclaiming how awesome he is.
  5. A spyrer hunting rig (probably Orrus, but maybe a Yeld or a Malcadon).
  6. A grav-howdah, pulled by some large xeno beastie, to use for hunting trips and safaris (also- sniper perch).

Brilliant!! You sir, have just written the next chapter in my campaign. gran_risa.gif

A spyrer hunting rig (probably Orrus, but maybe a Yeld or a Malcadon).

Orrus

An Orrus Hunting Rig counts as a suit of Power Armor and incorporates two Power Fists and two forearm-mounted Storm Bolters. It also projects an energy field that reduces the damage of all ranged attacks by 2d10 (roll separately against each attack).

Jakara

A Jakara Hunting Rig provides Armor 5 to all locations and grants the wearer the Unnatural Speed (x2) Trait. The Hunting Rig is equipped with a Fractal Blade and a Mirror Shield. The Mirror Shield counts as a normal shield in all respects, and also reduces the damage of all ranged attacks by 2d10 (roll separately against each attack). In addition, any time the Mirror Shield absorbs damage from a Pistol, Basic, or Heavy (not Thrown) attack, the character may spend a Reaction to "reflect" the attack back at the firer; roll to hit using the character's Ballistic Skill as normal, and if the attack hits, resolve a hit against the firer as though he were shot with his own weapon.

Malcadon

A Malcadon Hunting Rig provides Armor 6 to all locations and grants the wearer the Unnatural Speed (x2) Trait. The Hunting Rig is equipped with two forearm-mounted Web Spinners, each of which may be fired with the same profile as a Webber or used as a grapnel (but not both in the same Round), and a pair of swords with the Mono and Toxic (1d10) qualities.

Yeld

A Yeld Hunting Rig provides Armor 5 to all locations and incorporates two Las Gauntlets with the Storm quality and a set of Yeld Wings. The Yeld Wings can be set to either Passive or Active Mode; in Passive Mode, the wings function as a Cameleoline Cloak, while in Active Mode, the wings function as a Jump Pack and can be used in close combat as a pair of swords with the Mono quality. The character gains Pilot (Personal) as a trained Basic Skill while wearing a Yeld Hunting Rig, if he does not already possess it.

The "Reflect" properties for the Jakara rig sheild should only count against Las weaponry, in all the books i've read that involve them, they only reflect Las rounds like that.

Here we go, found better rules at http://www.cold-moon.com/40k/40kRP/DHCampaign/cast_of_characters.htm .

Mirror Shield: The Jakara mirror shield is a complex device that contains an unusual force field generator. The generator sets up a resonant energy vortex across the shield which bleeds off the power it absorbs into one of several containment devices which stud the shield’s surface. In turn this stored energy can be channeled back to its source as a brilliant bolt of heat and light. This shield allows the user to parry in hand -to-hand combat. If the mirror shield saves against a shooting attack that is energy-based (laser, plasma or melta) the Jakara can fire it back immediately. Roll to hit using the Jakara’s BS: if the blast hits, resolve it with the original weapon’s profile. In addition, the Mirror Shield provides a further 2 armor to the left arm and body for hits originating from the 90 degree arc in front of the Jakara. The power for the shield is integrated into the Jakara Suit, and will not function if disconnected from the suit.

A set of cathedral organs as wide as the central nave of the ship (so about 300 meters) to be played by the Captain during space battles. Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor is bound to scare away any possible boarders or just strike them down with sheer awesomeness.
