Strong lists with no upgrdes

By Shiftydaz, in X-Wing

I think you would do better off with simple upgrades and thematic ships.

I have had great success introducing my coworkers to x wing by gradually increasing the difficulty. We started off with just Luke with R2D2, B-Wing with Gunner, Y-Wing with Ion Cannon Turret, and Jake F with Prockets versus a simple imperial squad PTL Soontir (no thrusters or stealth), VI Turr, Scimitar bomber with some missiles, and lvl 1 Defender. Now that they are more familiar with the game I have moved them up to actual 100 pt lists.

I say avoid the Tie Interceptors for a while. Stick with Tie Fighters. Once you master the Tie Fighter, then move to the Interceptors. :) If you do go Interceptor, leave out Soontir Fel. He's a style of game that should come later. Get everyone used to the game without super re positioning power.

I LOVE the new X-wings! They come stock with lots of options (boost, BR, TL, Focus) and are a great ship for new players to learn the game.

Heck, I still like to make all X-wing lists as a vet player!

5 Kihraxzes. Don't know if anybody posted it already

Decimator. 5 academies. 100.

A fun no upgrade list.

RAC

Howlrunner

3x Academy Pilot

If you are aiming at teaching someone more about the different ships the following lists can be used. Dont remember the pilot cards but they are all the generic lowest PS for that ship. Not close to tier 1 stuff, but can do decently if focus fire on a ship. Note also some pieces are interchangeable without upgrades for different ships.

Imps

TIE fighter

TIE bomber

TIE interceptor

TIE advanced

Firespray

Rebels

Z-95

Y wing

X wing

B wing

YT-1300

Scum

Z-95

M3

Kihraxz fighter

Star viper

Yv-666

Tie swarms are not good for beginners. too hard to fly, especially if you are trying to keep them in formation.

You don't have to fly them in formation, especially without Howlrunner.

There's an argument to be made that jumping in the pool at the deep with a TIE swarm will make a new player into a better pilot faster.
