Kindred Fire

By UmarSlobberknocker, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Given how many posts I've seen about people buying the game or the expansions just because of the app I think FFG can afford to give this away for free.

Yep, its a good move. Probably the app caused a good impact on sales.

I've personally spent over $100 on Descent stuff in the last 3 weeks and will probably spend more if this App is as good as I am anticipating it to be. The only thing that stopped me from buying anything other than the base game is that it just never hit the table. Now I know I can get at least one or two other people on board for a pure co-op version. My hope is that I will be able to get people interested in the standard version of the game between RtL campaign releases. Well played FFG.

I heard about the app, and played my first game, in March since then I have purchased everything for sale in regards to Descent, including sleeves, I even bought 4 lieutenants from Italy and Germany. I have also set a schedule to have my minis painted professionally the base set and lieutenants are done. I have the complete collection and have the 4 'foreign' minis on pre-order here in Canada.

I've also organized 2 gaming groups, one weekly & one monthly, to play the App...so I guess you could say I'm all in! :D

adjective

  1. 1 .

    about to happen.

"they were in imminent danger of being swept away"

    synonyms:

    impending, close (at hand), near , (fast) approaching, coming , forthcoming , on the way, in the offing, in the pipeline, on the horizon,in the air, just around the corner, coming down the pike, expected,anticipated, brewing, looming, threatening , menacing ;

    informal in the cards

    "a ceasefire was imminent"

His body language said he wasn't very happy at being asked, and to be honest, he was not the friendliest of people. This was someone who was supposed to be promoting their products and I just got the impression he didn't want to be there or to talk to anyone.

Sorry folks, I tried.

It's funny that you mention this. Last fall during Gencon I emailed one of their promoter staff to share some of my enthusiasm and excitement for their new products. He warned me not to email him again or he would have my email banned. And I quote, " Please do not contact this email again with questions that do not pertain to Organized Play or Events. If you do I will be forced to flag your email address as spam." I had emailed asking initially about some of the game night kits and when they would be available. The person that initially responded was kind enough and told me about when they would be available. I emailed them back and was enthusiastic and said how much I enjoyed their games and was greatly looking forward to the next Descent release. That's when I got the aforementioned reply.

Wow. Just, wow.

They love to take our money but they sure seem to hate our guts.

You know, this does not surprise me at all, as sad as that is. Talking to former FFG employees (and reading reviews on Glassdoor.com) it's clear that the work environment and corporate culture at FFG is toxic at best. At first, I was understanding of this as the average FFG employee compensation is extremely low (as in, the average salary is only around $30k/year). But that doesn't really cover all of it. Quite frankly, FFG staff is not friendly and there are some very good reasons for that. It's mostly a problem at the top that works its way down. There is this one marketing guy that is at all the 'cons who is pretty chill, but even then you can tell that he is not fully relaxed around us "common people". And don't get me started on Anton Torres. Anyway, while I love the products that FFG puts out, more and more I am starting to despise the company that is FFG. Especially since they merged with Asmodee. Customer service and fan support has gone downhill fast since then. The whole BS regarding wanting to foster better local gaming communities and stores by forcing online retailers to sell their products at higher prices is just the latest and most blatant example. ANA/FFG just has this arrogant behavior about them where they think that they don't need us, the hobby game fan, and that they can do whatever they want and we will continue to shovel money at them regardless. Ironically, Games Workshop exhibited this same sort of behavior and look where that got them. At least FFG actually HAS a company hosted user forum, but in all the years that I have been using this forum, not once have I seen a single comment by an FFG employee or spokesperson.

Anyway, to be honest, I don't think this situation is going to change until there is a management shakeup and/or ANA/FFG gets bought out by someone else (which might just make matters even worse) but, given that Mr. Petersen just got promoted, it doesn't look like that is going to happen anytime soon. Clearly, FFG's French overlords are please and fans be damned...

Oh holy **** ! The success of the app must be amazing. Sales must have rocketed. FFG giving something for free ?!? Is it the end of the world.

Anyway thank you FFG for giving these 24 quests , i think i know what we ll do this summer :) .

Fair reward for the Descent Fan Base who has bought all expansions and H&M packs at a Heroic price.

Cheers !

I'm sure sales have sky rocketed. I know all my local hobby shops are always out of product for this game ever since the announcement of this app. Hell I have personally spent over $500 in the past month on this game, I bought the base game, all 6 expansions, half the hero packs, and a few lieutenants. I plan on continuing to buy all subsequent expansions and monster packs, just picking up lieutenants here and there as I go. This app has done wonders for this game.

If FFG truly means imminent then we should see Kindred Fire drop tonight. If there is anyone here who lives in New Zealand they could tell for sure or not.

EDIT: Ok, so, as we all should of know, what "imminent" means to FFG is entirely different than what it means to everyone else. Still no Kindred Fire.

Last time they said imminent, it was about the app. Then 2 weeks later they said "days away". Then a week and a half later it dropped.

So, expect this in about 3 weeks.

put the app on my phone just so i know when it updates get excited when ever i see the several apps have been updated..something i normally ignore :-p several apps have been more imminent at updating then this :-)

1.1.0 - The Kindred Fire Release!
10 de junio - Fantasy Flight Games
Smoke rises on the horizon—the free Kindred Fire update has arrived!
Lord Merick Farrow has begun his rampage, and only you can stop him. Embark on this new, free campaign, enjoying the other updates and improvements to Road to Legend as you hunt down the mad mage and encounter his many allies.
Unlocking Kindred Fire adds the following to the app:
-The first full-length campaign.
-Eight story quests.
-Two side quests.
-New perils and travel events.
The following are additional updates and corrections:
-Six additional side quests will appear in any full-length campaign.
-Six bonus quests. Each of these quests is unlocked by including the corresponding box expansion in your collection. These quests appear as side quests in any full-length campaign.
-Created two levels of difficulty: normal and hard.
-Normal difficulty gives players additional gold at the start of the campaign.
-Hard difficulty progress peril at a slightly faster rate than the Normal difficulty.
-Added a “Surrender” button to the options menu during quests. Selecting this button forces the heroes to lose the quest and returns them to the campaign map.
-Updated Tamalir’s City Action. Multiple heroes can increase their XP at once, and the cost is per hero selected.
-Adjusted the difficulty of all quests. Peril events take longer to trigger, and heroes receive a bit of a respite from new perils when entering the climax of a quest.
-Decreased the difficulty of most minor perils.
-“Deadly Peril: Tendrils of Darkness” now affects the heroes collectively instead of each hero equally.
-Corrected travel events that were appearing at the wrong time.
-The game saves each time an item is bought or sold in the city.
-Various small corrections to monster activations and monster group clarifications.
-Overriding a saved game with a new party the same name now resets that save game slot. Previously, some information persisted into the new campaign.

This just appeared on Steam...

A few moments for Kindred to be released...

I'm going to have to make bad sarcastic jokes more often if that's the result!

Good show FFG, good show!

It looks like they made it a lot cheaper to buy XP. Not sure I like this change it seems like the heroes could get really powerful in a short time. Only one way to find out!

From what I remember reading a while ago. Not sure if it is still holds true but the game scales to the stronges hero.

In the new campaign, you need to evaluate what to do and not spend time aimlessly.

For what its worth, I have bought a monster pack and a small expansion since the app launched. My group has zero plans to every play the non app version of Descent again. In fact, we only played Descent once about two years ago and ever since the game has been languishing on the shelf. Since the app dropped, we have played Descent:RtL 3 consecutive weeks in a row and are now playing through the starting campaign a second time to try to improve on our record from the first time. The app has given us the experience we always hoped we'd get from Descent. Not only has the app gotten us to finally fall in love with the game, it truly has gotten us to spend more money on the game. We very much look forward to a long future of awesome Descent experiences, again, all thanks to the app.

PS: Thanks for the free campaign! Now, take my money, please!!

Hi everyone!

Is Kindred Fire available yet? Cause I opened the RTL-app this morning and it still says "Coming Soon". Could be I'm in Belgium and we get the campaign later?

Nope mine is running fine on Steam & Android

Don't know for IOS.

For Android goto the app page, perhaps the update didn't launch automatically? ...

Love the fact that the blurb says I can buy the Merrick Farrow figure to substitute for the token. That figure hasn't been available in the UK for ages. Requests regarding availability to FFG have gone unanswered.

Make sure you've updated the game. Since Kindred Fire is free, it doesn't need to be purchased in game, but comes with the latest update.

(In Belgium as well and it works fine on iOS/Steam :) )
