Kindred Fire

It's also good to see that there will be some branching in the story quests: 6 out of 8 of those will be played.

Then, adding 8 Side Quests in that campaign, plus Side Quests from expansions, this seems to be a lengthy campaign, with a lot of variability and Hero progression.

Can't wait! :)

Yeah... only problem is the "soon" in the news.... that could mean months or only hours ... nobody knows except FFG.

;)

I hope they make "good" quests with lot's of different kinds of events and stuff... and "fix" the perils, so they get a bit more tied to the quests and not only let you get 23 damage because of tentacles....

Maybe let some swamp dragons appear in the trollfens expansion quest.... A Shadow Dragon Master who kills the heros if he reaches them and has so much life they can only run from him (and hopefully get the Quest done, before he kills them off) or something along that kind of line.

I agree. The branching with the different quests will hopefully add a lot to a campaign!

Guys... guys... GUYS!!!

The app is using so many of my unused monster groups for open groups. It even spawned Lava Beatles in the room with the lava tiles.

I got invaded twice by Trystane Olliven... this app is kicking my groups ass!

I'm ... so... happy!!! :D  :P ^_^

Freaking Awesome and I wholeheartedly agree with you.

I had a wrap up of the game with my boys last night. The last mission saw Hellhounds, Crow Hags and Ogres make an appearance as open groups. My favorite was the skill check for Trenloe which when failed produced 2 fire imps to give him an extra special hard time.

Good times.

Loving the APP FFG Keep it up.

Swamp Dragons? Sounds interesting...wonder what their abilities would be.

Kindred fire comes with a side quest for every expansion.

If every campaign does that then at some point the expansions will have more digital content than physical content.

Well more content? I am not complaining here. :P

The only sad thing is people buying the expansion and not getting everything they payed for, because they don't own all physical components (yet). ;)

Every campaign doesn't do that, according to FFG the expansion quests get recycled.

I don't think there will be more sidequests for expansions. But they might start selling sidequest packs at some point. For example 18 sidequests for SoN tiles, which can appear in any campaign. They might also make big-expansion related campaigns if we buy regular ones well enough. I would buy either instantly.

I hope that Road To Legend doesn't slow down the development and release of new small and big box expansions!

It's a pool of side quests, of course they get recycled, but that doesn't mean more won't get added to the pool.

Why would it do that? The people coding the app aren't going to be the people who decide model design and cardboard printing - and they are using the app to get people to buy physical things. So in fact, you'll probably find the more popular the app is, the more physical components you'll see appearing.

Seriously though, how long can it take to make one? Randomly pull some tiles from a box - 1 minute. Randomly pull some monster groups out of the box - 1 minute. Writing generic 5 paragraphs that link the tiles to the models in a roughly cohesive narrative - 5-10 mins? Typing that into the app database - 10 mins? Hitting submit - 30seconds. :)

When they see how much instant cash they get from adding a side quest that took 20 mins to write, I'm fairly sure we'll see the number ramp up significantly!

So no play-testing? I'm sure they could do that, but I'd much rather have them you know, be professional about it, put some thought into it. Test it to make sure its fun and balanced...

Perhaps.. but the people coding the app, most probably, must have input from model designers for rules and it's the same ones that can test and check, if all the rules are correctly coded within the app !

So from my point of view.. unless FFG hires some more people (in which case there's always the formation time) .. indeed there will be a negative impact on the physical releases. But I must confess I'm can't quantify this impact as I don't know as many designers there are for Descent, and how many they have assigne to the app !

We can only hope the impact will be minor ...

Alright. Now that the Steam version is out, they have permission to release this now.

Somehow it would be awesome if it was THAT easy... they would just keep throwing new free quests at us...

Funny thing though is, for some people it seems just as easy at that with quests they make up for the Quest Vault.... I still don't know how people can do that.... or maybe I am just that bad at creating new quests. ^_^

Well, I'd have to say that some of the Quests I've seen on the Vault are... questionable at best...

So, as promised I did go to the games show, and I did ask the FFG guy about the app. Specifically I asked him when the Kindred Fire campaign would be out, and why their PR / presence on the forums was so lacking.

His reply? "It's a company policy not to talk about any unreleased products".

His body language said he wasn't very happy at being asked, and to be honest, he was not the friendliest of people. This was someone who was supposed to be promoting their products and I just got the impression he didn't want to be there or to talk to anyone.

Sorry folks, I tried.

It's funny that you mention this. Last fall during Gencon I emailed one of their promoter staff to share some of my enthusiasm and excitement for their new products. He warned me not to email him again or he would have my email banned. And I quote, " Please do not contact this email again with questions that do not pertain to Organized Play or Events. If you do I will be forced to flag your email address as spam." I had emailed asking initially about some of the game night kits and when they would be available. The person that initially responded was kind enough and told me about when they would be available. I emailed them back and was enthusiastic and said how much I enjoyed their games and was greatly looking forward to the next Descent release. That's when I got the aforementioned reply.

Wow. Just, wow.

They love to take our money but they sure seem to hate our guts.

New images up on FFG Facebook page. :D

If all this is true I hope this website's definition of "longer" isn't as broad as FFG's definition of "soon".

Also on another thread I said I would pay double to have Kindred Fire last weekend, well I'll pay triple... no quadruple to have it this weekend! Lets do this FFG!

Given how many posts I've seen about people buying the game or the expansions just because of the app I think FFG can afford to give this away for free.
