Devastator list for experimentation

By thecactusman17, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

Ran this today at Regionals. Ended with a 1/1/1 WLT record which could have probably ended as a 2/1 against most other opponents. The loss was against the guy who came in first, at least.

It is extremely hard to play against this list correctly due to the odd timing problems Devastator introduces. Atco it to soon and it will immediately kill two ships. Too late and you've exposed yourself to extremely powerful incoming fire.

I like the setup a lot. The thing I'd be concerned about is squadron lists: did you go up against any squadron-heavy lists? If so, how did you deal with them? If not, what was your plan for doing so in case you did encounter any?

Do you think it might have been worth it to drop the IO from the ISD, and put Instigator on the non-Motti R1, and possibly Impetuous on Motti's ship?

Absolutely not on the Raiders. The Raider isn't durable enough to actually stop any bomber builds. If i had to pick a Raider title, I'd pick Impetuous as it's the one most likely to actually kill an enemy squadron (especially an enemy Ace) before they can engage.

I did go against Squadron lists, including Fireballs. One of the key points of Devastator is that squadron balls, especially if engagement is properly managed, actually fuel of Devastator for the next round. It is entirely possible to dump all your unused tokens in a single squadron phase if there are enough incoming attacks, take no hull damage, and proceed to immediately knock out the carrier. Also, Intel Officer ensures that Dev isn't dependent on Demolisher having already hit the target to do lethal damage. If Devastator is putting out a fully-powered 12-shot attack you have to take the shot first in most instances or you simply won't get to hit back. i only lost the ISD to squadrons in one game, and it traded for the enemy ISD2 flagship and a Raider.

One of the key differences in this list is that where the Raiders are the backstop in Clontrooper's Demo-MSU list, the Demolisher is the backstop in this one and prevents enemy ships from trying to flank around the ISD out of the front arc. Any that successfully do will have to answer to Demolisher before they can escape.
