Pls post if it works or not. I tried Punishers before and they just did not work out to well. But, hopefully maybe yours will.
I've found that with punishers running 2 and not taking the named ones works better...

I ran an Echo, Redline, Gamma Bomber list. Redline had plasma, and Bomber had Protons. Took out Scout, Manaroo, Palob list without losing a ship. Proton torps might be a better choice than Clusters just for initial range 3 strike.

Range 1 against high PS wont matter much cause they will be dancing around you anyway, and bomber gets relegated to a blocker.
I played a match with 3 PS9's and my bomber couldn't get one missile off the entire game. Really needed Deadeye in that game as anyone I TL'd just boosted past him, so I dont worry about range 1 missiles. THe question is can you get range 2? If you miss range 2 on initial engagement, your cluster carrier could get wipe off the board before it can fire one of its clusters next turn (however many hits this round, plus hits next round before it fires). I say cover range 2-3 with missiles, then worse case, range 1 you have 3 attack die modded with FCS.
Ok so an update on 1st battle with said list...
Played against a Boba Bossk build, and must say I'm loving the list, it packs a serious punch.
I've struggled in the past to beat the boba bossk build that my son plays ( lost last 2 games against it ) but going back to my fav ship, the defender, always helps. But must say I've fallen in love with the punishers again. Having the 9 damage means that they can survive the 1st strike and return fire after that. With the 4 k turn you can get in behind them to pound them some more after that. I can see that the range 1 missile is a 50 - 50 for future so will probable swap it out. But the question is do I go for another 4 pt missile / torp and a 99 pt army or drop it to a 3pt one and have a 98 pt initiative bid.
Played against Robots the other night...
At time I'd wounded both and hadn't lost a ship, we kept playing to the death and he was able to take all my ships out.
