Quitting the game :(

By Redavhtrad, in X-Wing

Hi Everyone.

I have been a happy member of the x wing miniatures community for some time now, however, life happens and I haven't had time to play or post in a few months. Work doesn't seem like it will be letting up any time soon and my collection is just collecting dust. The only course of action that seems to make sense at this point is selling my collection so someone else can escape to their childhood for an hour at a time.

The only problem is...I don't know where to sell it. Has anyone on this site had success in either buying used or helping someone else liquidate their collection? Any help would be appreciated.

I have had a few hobbies over the years and I have learned it is often worth putting stuff up in the loft for a year before selling it. Often you look back and regret parting with things, particularly when you look at what it would cost to get back into that particular hobby.

Unless you really need the cash or the space, you may be better off hanging on to some of it at least.

Failing that, there is always eBay. :(

That was the original plan, but I'm getting closer to graduation with a degree in studio recording, and the cash would be nice to go towards a nice mic or two. I love the game, but if I decide to get back in to it, it wouldn't cost that much to pick up a few ships and recreate a favorite squad or two and bum a few upgrade cards off my buddies.

There is a facebook group for buying and selling xwing and armada stuff. That would be a good first stop.

Are you never going to play again? Are you in any hurry? It's tabletop so there will never be backwards compatibility issues. Why not store it for a while?

I think it would be less complicated if you sell your ships with the right upgrade cards at once. So everyone know what´s inside and what they will get. If you are going to sell single cards, you probably will stuck to more stuff at the end.

Some of the ship models you could sell (or gift) to groups organizing game nights. They could probably use them for special prizes etc

I'd recommend selling the whole lot on eBay unless you really want to separate all your upgrade cards, tokens, etc by individual sets. Set your minimum or a fair Buy It Now and look for the best. Way easier and you can set a price that is reasonable, probably no more than half retail price.

Yes, Ebay. Ask a reasonable money and let the Net work for you. Or face to face sell in your area

Donate them to your local Library.

Go to the LFGS and let the people still playing locally have a shot. Some are always looking for more.

The Facebook group is called Star Wars Miniatures Swap and Sell.

I think it's a closed group but you'll get authorized quickly.

I recommend putting it up on eBay then posting it on the Facebook group. That's what I did previously with templates and they sold like hotcakes.

Not sure if it has already been suggested but there is a facebook swap and sell group that seems to get things sold pretty quickly. I would start there.

I ran into that situation after wave 4. I kept my ships and picked up a few that I wanted only for display. Just before Christmas I changed jobs and I am able to play again. I am very glad that I still had ships and was able to get back into this game.

If you feel that things might change in the future and you have space, you may want to hold on to what you have.

As mentioned, ebay works really well and is easy. I sold a core set on CL for what I paid, so that's an option as well.

Won't you be doubting yourself if you sell all your collection?

Did you not enjoy the game?

That Swap Page is good, but the guy who runs it is a TOTAL tool...

I would keep some of it, sell some of it on eBay or the FB page for buy/sell/trade.

Just remember, man -- it's almost NEVER a good idea to try to jettison a bunch of miniatures entirely. You never know what the future will bring, or how hard to find some of this stuff might be.

Keep something. Trust me.

Don't forget the occasional price raises that happen now and then. Might turn out that when you want to buy back into it, stuff has gotten too expensive to justify a similiar build-up of your collection to the size of it you had before.

Thanks for all the advice. I'll probably keep my favorite go-to build and one or two variations, but most of the x wing stuff I have is purely excessive. I'm headed over to the facebook group now. Thanks again! You'll probably see me here again in the future when time and money are kinder to me.
