Can't say I have ever played MHD-19 but he just doesn't feel like a super viable choice, his attack die and stats in general don't lend very well to the a timed skirmish match, perhaps in an untimed game perhaps, but even then often the best form of defense is offence.
Also I love EBT's but the disparity between the regulars and the elites regarding the health is hard to pass up if you can spare the points (though the regulars can utilise Reinforcements which might tip the scales over the elites)
It just makes my blood boil that eEBT's are almost on a par with eStormies (same die, same surges, fair split on extra health over squad training) but eStormies get a whole extra body, last stand is super strong and eStormies can be reinforced while eEBT's can't

The comparison is not that simple. You seem to forget that elite Echo Troopers also have the red die bayonet ability, the Pierce mitigation and Efficient Travel. The group is also 1pt cheaper. They are a completely different kind of unit from elite Stormtroopers - mid to short range heavy brawlers compared to fairly flimsy long range strikers. If you'd like Rebels to have a direct 1 to 1 analogue to elite Stormtroopers, I'm sorry to say that will never happen, and frankly, that would make the game boring.
Regarding the list, I agree that MHD isn't that good, I feel investing 1/8 of your list into healing will make you regret not having more straight up punch, especially since you are lacking big health pools that would benefit from the healing in the first place. I also don't find regular Echo Troopers that good. Their only advantage over the spectacular elites is the fact that they can be Reinforced. But having only two guys per group makes reinforcing them very tricky against any competent opponent. I know, I tried and it didn't work.
I'd try:
2x elite Echo Troopers
2x elite Saboteurs
Gideon + Diplomatic Mission
That's a solid core and you can season the last 6pts to taste. Rebel High Command is an option, and/or some Smugglers for doing objectives and running interference, or Computers for the Sabs, or Threepio/R2...

I've used MHD a few times and found him to be super annoying to my opponent, he was very annoying to me when i played against him too, there is nothing as annoying as putting damage on something and then seeing it disappear, add that to reinforcement command card and i had hoped to annoy many people. Don't forget that MHD-19 is a support character like gideon so his attack isn't going to be used all that often. I accept that gideons attack is much better but then in all the tourneys I've played in with him he has only ever shot twice, all be it one of them was the game winning shot for me. Food for thought
It is annoying that reinforce can't be used on the E-Echos but then that would most likely prove too much of a challenge in a 4-5 round game.
the med droid works well with the normal and elite rebel troopers as well, and at a 6 player championship came in second
Edited by wblackthornso as a bit of feedback to everyone. I tried both the elite and regular EBT in this list (putting targeting computer on the eSabs to use up points).
I decided to go with regular EBT and here is why.
I get more activations, more attacks and more flexibility. I also can make use of the reinforcement command card and that means that i can use the miracle worker card to better effect aswell (more likely to have somebody die near MHD-19)
the downside is that my attacks are weaker overall and my health per model is much less. I think this is an acceptable trade off given i found it hard to take objectives and terminals whilst keeping my foe at bay
Thanks for your thoughts guys.

If you're attacking with him, you're ding it wrong. Play him like you'd play either of the other droids. Stay close and buff or control points. He's pricey, I'll give you that, but he's pretty okay and that recover will save you.
