I was playing a game last night in which my opponent was flying Tel Trevura (pilot ability: the first time you would be destroyed, instead cancel any remaining damage, discard all Damage cards, and deal 4 facedown Damage cards to this ship.) who was equipped with R5-P8 (Once per round, after defending, you may roll 1 attack die. On a {hit} result, the attacker suffers 1 damage. On a {crit} result, you and the attacked each suffer 1 damage.). This raises a couple questions for me based on the interection of the two. The situation we faced was; Tel is defending and takes enough damage to trigger his pilot ability. My opponent wants to use R5-P8 and rolls a crit result, how does the situation unfold? My interpretation was that Tel's ability triggers first, so he clears the damage cards and deals new ones. He then would trigger R5-P8, rolls and deals a damage card to himself and my ship. If it matters, the ship that attacked Tel is the same PS as Tel but Tel had initiative. The other questions that this raises for me, can a destroyed ship use R5-P8 prior to being removed from the board (I would assume no).
R5-P8 and Tel Trevura interaction
Tel's ability kicks in before R5-P8. He clears his cards and deals himself 4 new ones. R5-P8 triggers, he rolls a crit, and deals him self a card. Unless he has hull upgrade he is destroyed. In the case of simultaneous fire he would stay on the table until he has had a chance to attack.
Ships that have been destroyed are removed from the table before the end of the attack so R5-P8 would be off the table before it reached it's trigger. In the case of simultaneous fire, R5-P8 could trigger if the ship it is on has not attacked yet this round.
