Will there be a 3rd Core Set?

By patox, in X-Wing

I doubt it. The Rogue one era is the Rebbellion era. So probably a no go there. The other Sequel trilogy movies will be in the same era as TFA. So a no go there as well.

Yup... DAT!

;)

i could see one focused around Scum but thats it.

Hopefully not but if they do I would at least like to see a Scum ship in the box. I don't know which one, maybe a Khiraxz as it is sort of the X-Wing analog for scum. But again, hopefully not.

You're never going to see a scum ship in a core set. Core sets aren't made for us. They're made to bring people into the game. You'll only ever see recognisable iconic ships in them. So unless they make a movie that isn't about Rebs vs Imps ..I wouldn't hold your breath.

Boba Fett movie... Directed by Quentin Tarantino.

Even if Boba really does end up getting his own movie, what are the odds he'll get an iconic starfighter in it? He's had Slave 1 as his personal ship since he was 10 years old.

Best chance of having a scum ship in a core set would be if the Han Solo movie gives him a fighter-sized ship in his pre-Millennium Falcon days.

Boba Fett could be found in the Slave II in the EU. . .

True, but that's still a large ship (wingspan aside it's actually bigger than Slave I). Fighters are a much bigger need for scum, and if we're talking about a new core set...well I don't see a core set ever including a large ship.

If not for the Han Solo movie being 2 years away (and the mabye-Boba movie being 4 years or more away), I'd suggest a core set with an X-wing for Rogue one and a pair of scum fighters for the Han Solo movie. But they're surely not going to wait that long to include Rogue One characters in the game. Disney will probably want a Rogue One tie-in either concurrently with the movie's premiere or at least pre-Christmas.

Actually, come to think of it, maybe we'll get a Rebel equivalent to the Imperial Veterans set that's specifically Rogue One-centric.

I may have seen the idea bashed before, but Uglies are definitely scum ships. They could do a New Republic X-Wing vs. a couple of scum Uglies.

But they're not iconic and barely recognisable.

Scum will not have a core set appearance until SW breaks from the beloved Goodie vs Baddie (Rebs vs Imps) template. /conversation .. Please.

What does iconic and recognizable mean? None of the scum ships are seen in any of the movies--you would only be aware of them if you played videos games or read the novels/comics.

I'd never heard of the Punisher or Defender prior the Wave they dropped in, but that doesn't stop me from playing them.

The iconic and recognizable gambit would almost seem to require prequel ships at this point, or waiting for ships from new movies.

Who are you, and what have you done with DarthEnderX?

I don't need any more REGULAR TIE Fighters.

They've already named this one the TFA Core Set, so it only makes sense to continue the trend.

Except for the part where it's completely pointless.

We should also brace ourselves for the possibility that the ships/models will be the same (T70 & TIE/fo). Will be targeting new players after all...

Then why do it? To literally just change the name on the box?

dont be naive, If they can do this and sell more, why wouldn't they?

Because why would it sell more?

Most of the people buying TFA set were old X-Wing players thinking they'd need the new damage deck.

Each movie (unless they start to really suck) will draw more people to Star Wars branded stuff. If the next ST had a bunch of star ships dogfighting then that will bring people to XWM, why wouldn't FFG capitalize on that?

Note: as much theory in my post as yours, but unless you can back up your statement with more than your gut feeling, mine actually holds more water than yours.

And, FWIW, I would love to see a new, rebranded core set matching the various films, assuming there was enough fresh content (ships, pilots, upgrades) to support it (with a minimum of the "Red Ace" rather than the actual movie characters) and they didn't make any of the new content mandatory (see: "damage deck debacle, TFA Core, 2015).

Seriously, we are talking about X-Wing mini's here. You all know you would all buy it too.

I'm quite done buying sets with ships I'll never use at this point. They got be to do it twice with the two core sets, and that's enough for me.

If new sets come out with new TIE pilots in them, I'll just ebay those TIEs, like I did with the Raider and Gozanti.
