joffrey (tales from the red keep) and westeros bleeds

By thorin_81, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

this joffrey is immune to triggered effectes, so what happens when a Westeros bleeds is played? Does Joffrey go in the discard pile or he stays on the table because of his immunity?

I think Joffrey goes in the discard pile, because westeros doesn't target anyone, but maybe I am wrong

You're wrong ! gui%C3%B1o.gif

Joffrey stays on the table. Westeros bleeds is a triggered effect so he's immune to that event. Only passive or lasting effects (like lost oasis for example) can affect him.

Here's a couple of quick rules of thumb for immunity:

1. A card that is immune to something cannot be targeted by that something. As you note, Joffrey cannot be targeted by any triggered effect.

It's tempting to stop there, but it doesn't

2. A card that is immune to something ignores all effects of that something if those effects would work directly on it. In the case of Joffrey, if a triggered effect would do something to him directly (like Westeros Bleeds trying to discard him or Bodyguard trying to save him), he ignores it and it doesn't work - even if the triggered effect didn't target him. However, if a triggered effect said something like "Players may not initiate power challenges," Joffrey would have to follow that because the effect is not working directly on him (it's working directly on the players, not the characters).

3. A card cannot be immune to its own abilities. So even though Joffrey is immune to all triggered effects, he doesn't ignore his own "stand, then claim a power" effect.

4. Immunity only extends to targeting and effects. Joffrey can still be used to pay the cost of triggered effect (like A Lannister Pays His Debts) or to meet the play restrictions of a triggered effect (like Castellen of the Rock).

ok, thank you.

One last question: can I save Joffrey with a duplicate of himself? If I remember correctly, saving a character with a duplicate is a triggered effect , so it seems to be that he cannot be saved...

Am I miss something?

dupes give the character the ability so they fall under #3 in ktom's list above.

Just to go into the technical aspects of Lars' (correct) answer, it is probably not clear just from the rules document that the "Response" effect of a duplicate is a gained ability. The FAQ, however, goes into it specifically and in fact uses the example of dupes and "immune to triggered effects" characters to illustrate the importance of the distinction.

So yeah, Joffrey could be saved by a dupe, but pretty much every other save rolls right off of him.

It's not about Joffrey, but about immunity and I don't wanna open another thread...I guess Cat'o The Canals immunity to card EFFECTS refers to ANY effect (including Keywords)...Am I wrong?

How can I kill her (outside military claim)?

Thanks a lot.

Yes, Cat o' the Canals is immune to anything that comes from a card, including keywords. (Remember, even though keywords are not considered character abilities, they are card effects.)

There really is no other way to kill her outside of military claim in LCG - which is pretty limited since you cannot control who your opponent picks to die for military claim. Unless, of course, you control her since she is only immune to opponent's card effects.

If you want to get really tricky, figure out a way to bring Arya Stark to the game and give your opponent control of her.

In Legacy, the Assassination claim replacement effect would work. But even there, that's about it.

Ok, then. It's a pain and I cannot say where...

So, Is it impossible to blank her text via attachments?

BTW, she's pretty strong, right now.

Well, you can only put weapon attachments on her (and only one at that) and there aren't any weapon attachments that blank text anyway.

And if you put an attachment on your opponent's Cat, she'd just be immune to the attachment's effects anyway.

So yeah, it is pretty much impossible to blank her text via attachments in LCG.

Essentially, your only hope is the "opponents" part of her immunity. You need her controller to play something that will cripple her - like Arya, Den of the Wolf, Valar, etc. If your opponent plays it, it hits her. Hence my earlier comment about finding tricky ways to give your opponents control of things that will get her.

OK, got it. ;) Thanks for the good explanation.
