APT + XX-9

By Kiwi Rat, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

What happens when you use a Advanced Proton Torpedoes and XX-9 Turbolasers in a combo?

No matter what once you have a Crit, your opponent will get one face up card.

But any other cards dealt during the same attack, will the second damge card also be a face up card?

And will this combo overrule the contain defence token?

And what about the Assault Concussion Missiles + XX-9 Turbolasers in a combo?

Will you get the two adjacent hull zone hits aswell as two face-up damage cards if you manage to land at least two damage on the enemy ship hull in the same attack???

Those are two different critical effects. You can only trigger one per attack.

Okay so once your attack dice has Crit results, then you have to declare which Crit effect you want to use before defence tokens is spended?

And will the use of either overrule the contain defence token?

Both will override the Contain token because neither is a standard critical effect. And because neither is an SCE, you'll have to choose between either one or the SCE.

Only two ships even get this option: the VSD1 and the MC30. Both have better combo options.

I had never looked at this. Taking the cards a literally as possible proton torpedoes would deal a face up card, then if there is more damage during the damage phase the first card would be face up as well. well. XX-9 simply says the first two damage cards dealt during the attack, and is not activated by a critical so is not a critical effect

It has a critical icon (no color) and then text. It's a critical effect.

Similar to taking overload pulse with dodonnas pride.

You declare which crit effect it will be after they use defence tokens.

So they exhaust all tokens out of fear of overload pulse... you use dodonnas pride instead...

There can be only one critical resolved per attack.

Contain can only prevent the default crit effect.

Slight Correction.

You Trigger your Critical Effect after Defence Tokens are Spent.

Its the first step of Attacking Part 5 - Damage.

So you've got your Dice rolled for range.

You modify them with adds, changes, etc,

You Spend your Accuracies to nullify enemy Defence tokens.

Then they spend their defence tokens.

THEN you Activate a critical Effect.

THEN you tally up how many points of Damage are done.

THEN you apply that damage, one point at a time.

In the case of things like APTs and XX-9... You're really not in the best way to not activate the Critical Effect...

BUT.

With Other Critical Effects (NK-7, ACM, etc), it can actually be part of the game, seeing if the enemy believes you will spend the Default Critical (and use their contain) or not... Because sometimes, taking ACM shield damage might be preferred to a Damage Card..... or sometimes the other way around .

Again, its not Super-Super pertinent now... But it might make sense if we get a future upgrade card that is a discard in order to activate an awesome critical effect...

Agreed.

However, the ISD-II, VSD-II and MC80 also have Critical Combination situations with NK-7/Ion cannon batteries/Overload Pulse + XX-9.

So its not just those, and sometimes, no, they don't have better options :D

Your right. That's what I get for posting first thing in the morning while getting around. I took a quick look at XX-9 and missed the crit symbol.
