X-EPIC & THEMATIC PLAY = Gaming Scenes From The Films?

By Joe Boss Red Seven, in X-Wing

Silently waits for a BatRep and build where Poe Dameron wins single-handedly against a 10-Tie swarm.

To help keep such a big game manageable, we also decided to institute a Squadron rule. A Squadron was one Unique pilot and 2 generic wingmen in the same class of ship (or 3 wingmen for TIE Fighters). As long as they are in Range 1 of their squadron leader, the generics activate in the Activation phase at the same PS as their leader. But NOT in the combat phase. We thought this was a nice way to encourage people to fly in formation and might speed the game up.

That idea my friend is pure gold.

How dare you post actual fun ideas and such in this age of ADD... Nice!

I totally run Squadrons like you mention above, and give them little benefits too... it IS awesome and right out of the films Baby!

;)

I earned myself a Joe Boss Good Post! Now I know I've made it! Now, if only I knew how to make Star Wars emojis...

:)

Later I will try out a different X-Wing game with help of Memoir 44. The Empire has the goal to take out all shields and cannons on board. Rebel's goal is to make their transport flee and take down AT-AT.

We've done a trench run scenario of our own design using the AI from HotAC to fly the Imperials. Worked well and very cinematic situations... Until Luke blew up. And then Porkins ran the opposite way down the trench to splash Vader to allow Wedge and Biggs a clear shot.

I'd love to throw down a fleet of epics and have fighters fly between like Endor. I think my group has enough for four Rebel epics... Hoping for more.

Given the huge difference in movement speed, and movement types, I've considered the idea of using the ground units from Rebellion with more traditional miniature rules (i.e., AT-ST may move x", but no limits on bearing, except AT-ATs, which I'd think should work similar to GW's rules for the LOTR Mumak, only with guns & armor). Ground units could only fire at air units at range 1, and air units would have one extra green die to defend against ground. AT-ATs would be vulnerable only to crits (convert to regular hits) and ordnance. Basically, there'd be two battles on the table at once, with some interaction as Y-wings bomb AT-ATs and Stormtrooper battalions.

Ground units should move slower than air units. And I see each troop figure representing a group of soldiers, instead of one person per figure.

I haven't bought Rebellion yet, so I haven't tried this, but I find myself wondering how the figure scale compares to micro machine figures, as a way to distinguish certain elite units. (I just saw the Rebels micro machine set, and thought Kanan would make a good representative for an elite Rebel unit.)

How many of you guys include Monster Encounters in your games? It is a whole lot of FUN!

  :D

This is awesome in X-EPIC because they is a good chance that all of the active little humanoids may disturb something...

The way to do this I think would be to set up a 6x4 mat with the nebulon b down the middle, and simulate the attack on the medical frigate, which is probably the most interesting part of that fight from a dogfighting perspective.

Rebels get squads of 3 a-wings, 3 b-wings, 3 x-wings, Imps get 3 l/ns, 3 squints, 3 bombers, x however many fit into the points amount, mostly generics, the frigate has x health, probably a huge amount, and the imps have to kill its health before the time runs out (maybe ten or 15 turns). Both teams get a certain number of reinforcements each round.

I'm sure you could come up with something interesting.

That sounds awesome!

Never actually done any battles from the films, much as I would love to.

Starting Wednesday though my local gaming group and I are doing a distinctly REBELS take on the Gozanti Campaign. With Agent Kallus commanding the carrier (supported by Rudor and ties), and the Ghost as the rebel wingleader (with the Phantom and two Awing escorts).

:D

And now thanks to that monster encounter link I really want to make a couple of minock swarms to lurk round asteroids.

I've recreated..

From ANH:

-Red squadron

-black squadron

....

1. Black squadron is so far behind red it's laughable. Could 6 of black squadron really hold off 22 XWings and 8 ywings, even with turbolasers support? Dark curse is good and all but when Vader, Mithel and Backstabber are in the trench how is he going to do?

2. I'm always torn on what EPT to give them. Obviously Luke gets Deadeye. Wedge expose (for his suprise head on jousting)? Would love ideas here.

3. Droids.

Dreis has R5-K6.

Wedge Targeting Astromech (it looks like R2-A3).

Luke has r2-d2.

Porkins has R5-D8.

But what about the rest? Especially Biggs.

We know from FFG that R2-F2 was attached to red squadron.

R2-D4 was on Yavin so might be red squadron (or one of the others that flew that day).

R2-D6 was an experience y-wing droid with the Rebels at this time so he might have been on the gold squadron y which escaped... Or died at Yavin.

Or just go with a mix of generic R2s and R5s?

I've given that a few tries. But I keep coming to a couple of issues.

I like all of your ideas, go with your first impressions here... there is not to much to do to improve what you already have written out.

Very NICE!
