I see that this next expansion can be a sequel to Mists of Bilehall or a standalone.
I am liking the hybrid class card idea. I do wish we would see new hero classes. Perhaps those will come eventually.
What do you all think of this new expansion?

I am excited to hear more about the hybrid classes...it could add a whole new dynamic to RPG character development.
I think that is the most epic box cover they have made thusfar:pThe hybrid classes are cool, it looks like this will be a class that is for example a combination of a scout and healer. Very interesting, and they are certainly new classes. The Soulbinder OL class sounds awesome, summoning scourges after a monster dies, that is true evil:p The starter class makes it seem that there can be multiple scourges at once.
Agreed, the box cover is epic.
Even with the pending release of Road to Legend happening tomorrow...when I saw this come across the News Feed I got my hopes up.
Descent week? ![]()
I saw these type of hybrid classes somewhere. Let me check.
Edited by kraistoWhile I also like the sound of the Hybrid Classes, I really hope FFG eventually balances out the classes for all archetypes, so that the hybrid choice opportunities are equal across all archetypes.
This looks awesome.

Agreed, great mosters and more classes, its beautiful

Custom made, with the double class colors. Pretty close.
Edited by kraistoYes, I'm sure Wallack is either very pleased (or very upset) with this announcement.
I am exited about this. As the OL against a very competent team of heroes, I welcome any addition that will make my job easier. We haven´t gotten around to Bilehall yet, and we will wait until this one is around.
I am really hoping that the next expansion will be an expansion to the expansions. The increased penalty for being knocked out is something I would like to see across all expansions. It really changes the dynamic of playing.
Those monk skills tho! ![]()

Scout / healer = monk
Mage / warrior or Warrior / mage = battle mage
Mage / scout = ?
Warrior / scout = ?
Healer / warrior or healer / mage = ?
Mage / scout = ?
Edited by kraistoThose figures and map tiles will look great in the app! Well done FFG ![]()

To my knowledge, there has only ever been one expansion from FFG that did something like this. I am not aware of its success or reception though. The expansion was for Arkham Horrow - Miskatonic Horror.
I would LOVE to see something like this for Descent and I feel many others would appreciate something like this as well.
Also, glad to finally see this announcement.
That cover art is so **** sexy! Love it
This news blew my mind, I was hoping for more undead goodness but the Hybrid Classes was a total surprise, wasn't expecting that. First thing I thought of when I saw the Monk card was that picture of Wallack's Paladin class. FFG, you've got some 'splaining to do! ![]()
The Colossus looks wicked, we can only speculate what kind of horrible combos await the Heroes when we get the info on the 2 remaining monster groups.
However, I can already feel the tingling sensation, my Luijo-sense wants to rule book so I can get clarification on how you acquire the extra class, or classes. If I'm interpreting correctly heroes will now have 3 classes?
“When you gain this card, choose 1 standard Class deck belonging to the Healer archetype. When you spend experience points, you may purchase skills from either Class deck, excluding cards with an XP cost of 3 from the chosen standard Class deck.”
Will this mean you will have a Hero pick from your usual pool of class decks pertaining to your archetype, then later on have the opportunity to gain a Hybrid class deck, which in turn allows you to spend xp points on the second class deck as long as it isn't one of the powerful 3XP skills? Plus the Hybrid Class itself has a deck, so essentially 3 decks worth of class cards to chose from?!?!
Speculation...speculation... curse you FFG now that I'm getting my hands on Road to Legend you drop this nugget of goodness to keep me STILL waiting for more content to release, well played sirs & madams, well played...
Edited by LuijodMiskatonic horror was the final nail in the coffin for arkham.
It was epic because if fixed and expanded every expansion and the core set.
But once it was released it was obvious that arkham had finished.
I don't want descent to end so I'll happily do without this type of expansion for a while.
You choose monk as your class and a healer class as well, only 2 decks.
You choose monk as your class and a healer class as well, only 2 decks.
That's how I read it. If you choose the Monk class, you can then choose to be a Monk/Disciple, or a Monk/Prophet, etc. Assuming Monk/Prophet, you'll have the option of spending XP on Monk cards, or Prophet cards. However, the base Monk card looks like it makes the 3XP Prophet cards off-limits.
Hybrid classes (e.g. monk) will contain 4 cards (and one of those practically only tells you which other class-decks you can choose) leaving you with 3 skillcards that let you do something. One 1XP card, one 2XP card and one 3XP card.
So basically what the monk let's you do is: play a scout, pick a healer class, have one 1XP and 2XP skill more to choose from with the downside of being able to level only one 3XP skill- the 3XP monk skill. This means your 3XP skill will always be of the hybrid class, so it widens the options for your 1 and 2XP skills with the downside of having only one option for a 3XP skill.
So as it is shown you get 3 new skills for a total of 6 skill points. Then you lose 2 3 point skills which is also 6 points. So it balances out rather nicely in my mind.
Monk does look really nice.

That actually makes math sense, too. You forfeit two 3XP cards (2*3=6) in favor of one 1, 2, 3 XP cards (1+2+3=6). Same amount of XP upgrades available, you're just splitting it among more cards.
The hybrid classes seem cool but I don't see the downside for taking one. The monk card seems to imply that you only can't take the 3XP ability from the new chosen class, so in this case, the healer card. This means you have the choice of the two from your first class and 1 from the monk.
The article also states that you gain all the items from the class as well. Considering that quite a few of the healer starting equipment isn't great, what reason does a healer have to not picking up a hybrid for the sake of items and an extra ability out the gate? This also effectively means heroes can start off with more effective gp for what looks like little to no cost. I'm just worried that picking up hybrid classes will be a no-brainer for experienced players and just up their power without increasing the power of the OL.
There are also only four hybrid classes in total, the monk is scout first then healer.
So I wonder what the others will be, one is clearly fighter > mage or mage > fighter.
The other two? I do wonder, fighter > scout and healer > mage maybe?
I'm speculating there are 4 hybrids one for each archetype currently, more coming down in the future.
Sidenote: Openhanded, really great idea, I like the card but.. aren't fists only ever able to at most do 2 damage? Since it's only the blue dice. Sure you'll gain up to pierce 6 but not for much damage, a weapon seems to stay better unless you maybe want to chip something out with the attack?
I'm not sure what you mean by "two from your first class and one from the Monk". The way I read the card, you have Monk + Healer, not Monk + Healer + Scout. That is, (let's say your chosen healer class is Disciple) you have access to your Monk cards (including a 0,1,2,3 XP) and your Disciple cards (but only the 0,1, and 2 XP). Your ONLY available 3 XP card is the Monk card.
Speaking of the Monk/Disciple combo in reference to your second question, I'm imagining Openhanded+Divine fury for a blue/yellow barehanded attack.
Oh, my God...look at those miniatures ![]()
We need them, my precious, we must have.
