Wing Guard and Ugnaught Tinkerer Skirmish Specific Discussion

By Inquisitorsz, in Imperial Assault Skirmish

Yep, that's the horse again. There will be just one card in the box. The packaging is streamlined towards campaign, so as not to confuse anyone with instructions to take stuff out of their game on account of specific circumstances.

Just borrow a second card from another player at the event. I can't imagine anyone ever refusing such a request.

The packaging isn't ideal for skirmish, but it's not like it makes for an impassable barrier to play.

1)anyone playing the Bespin Campaign well and truly knows what they are doing by now so confusion about cards to take out is never going to happen.

2) there are already skirmish only upgrades in the big box expansions I.e Targeting Computer attachment so more skirmish only units won't add to confusion.

3) from all the rules I have read so far about campaign none seem to speak of limiting elite units in open groups to 1, (though please point to there rules reference if im wrong) in the case of stormtroopers there is an expac as well and I'm pretty sure you don't need to "win" generic imp or merc units to have them in open groups.

4) pretty sure I'm gonna end up with 2 agent Blaise cards just like all the other duplicate uniques I have so cardstock shouldn't be an issue.

5) Borrowing cards should be a back up not a permanent solution.

At the end of the day it will be what it will be, but it would be nice for FFG to actually show they listen to one of the more prominent issues players have with an aspect of the game that can be solved with 1 more piece of cardboard.

/end rant

3) You only need to earn the unique villains. Non-uniques can be used in the campaign without earning them through the side missions. You earn reward cards from the agenda side missions of non-uniques.

You are limited to the figures and deployment cards in the core game and each expansion says how they are integrated, so you can't use two of the same elite group.

The Stormtrooper villain pack does not increase the number of Stormtrooper figures/groups you can use in the campaign (you are still limited to 2 regular and 1 elite), Hired Guns say you can use both deployment cards - i.e. two packs worth of figures, with all other packs you are limited to what figures you get in one pack.

Component Limitations

ยท In a campaign, players are limited to the number of figures
included in the game. For example, the Imperial player is
limited to six regular and three elite Stormtrooper figures,
even if he owns multiple copies of the game.

+ read the rulesheet from each expansion.

You are underestimating people's capacity to get confused. The moment Wave 3 hit store shelves, both the boards here and on Boardgamegeek were full of threads by people confused about using Stormtroopers and Hired Guns in the campaign, even though the rulesheets in the packs explicitly told you what to do. In fact...

3) from all the rules I have read so far about campaign none seem to speak of limiting elite units in open groups to 1, (though please point to there rules reference if im wrong) in the case of stormtroopers there is an expac as well and I'm pretty sure you don't need to "win" generic imp or merc units to have them in open groups.

...you yourself seem to still be confused about that. A1bert explained how it works above, I won't reiterate.

2) there are already skirmish only upgrades in the big box expansions I.e Targeting Computer attachment so more skirmish only units won't add to confusion.

Skirmish Upgrade Cards are specifically marked as such and have no analogue in campaign play, which is not true for Deployment Cards. These are identical to both variants of play.

4) pretty sure I'm gonna end up with 2 agent Blaise cards just like all the other duplicate uniques I have so cardstock shouldn't be an issue.

It isn't, but the issue isn't about production limitations. It's about keeping your product line streamlined.

5) Borrowing cards should be a back up not a permanent solution.

The permanent solution is obtaining an extra copy of the card. If you are unwilling to that, by purchasing a second copy of the product containing it, trading, buying singles or however else, borrowing the card IS the backup solution.

Say you buy a model train containing a locomotive and six cars, and the model is designed in a manner that allows the attachment of additional cars. You really want to have that locomotive pull seven cars instead of six, because you happen to really like the number seven. What do you do? Write and angry letter to the manufacturer every time they release a new model train, demanding that they repack all of their model trains with an extra car? Or buy/trade for an extra car?

True, you don't get angry with the model train company because you had to buy a whole extra pack of trains. But that's because each new train costs a significant amount of money for the manufacturer to produce, and so it makes sense that they draw the line somewhere. In this example each new train is 1/6 of the cost of a pack.

But the example you describe does not fit with IA. An extra train is 1/6 the cost of a train pack, but in IA each Deployment Card costs mere pennies (or maybe dimes?) to print, which amounts to less than 1/90th of the cost of an Expansion Box (Hoth, Bespin, etc). Therefore, printing one extra Deployment Card per figure group is not a big deal at all, and it adds a PILE of value to the initial purchase, thus attracting more skirmish buyers. It is therefore a very reasonable request on the part of players to want to receive just 1 extra card in their boxes so that they can actually use all of their figures in skirmish play without having to make that big purchase a second time, for the cards alone.

This is a big deal to players and an easy fix for FFG, so I hope--and honestly, I expect--that FFG will hear the players' requests and start to implement this minor change. We should keep in mind that the production cycles and issues of approval from the "higher-ups" are things that are likely causing a delay in FFG's response to this issue. Given their responsiveness to the players and the health of the game up to this point, I, for one, am confident that FFG will respond to the players' requests.
