I only have the base set so far. What are the most competitive skirmish options using only one base set?

Imperial Troopers is your best bet with just the core set.

If you're not using Vader or the AT-ST, then something like this is OK:

Elite Stormtrooopers (9)

Stormtroopers (6)

Elite Probe Droid (5)

Temporary Alliance (1)
Elite Nexu (6)

Imperial Officer (2)

Imperial Officer (2)

Total 31

And then you have 9 points left to spend however you like.... More Stormtroopers, Royal Guard, Trandoshans etc...
Fill left over points with Probe Droids or Officers.

Ideally I'd suggest another elite stormtrooper unit, but you only get 1 of those cards in the core set.

You could do the Vader, eRG, RG, & Imperial Officer.

Its a lot of melee but hits like a truck.

Running trooper lists kind of sucks without reinforcements or grenadier though.

so what expansions do i need to get to build the imperial search block list? if i read the list right none as all the minis are in the base set. but no idea about those command cards. thx

Reasonably certain DerBaer wasn't seriously saying you should buy a second base set. You shouldn't.

Rebel Troopers pack will give you a bunch of good command cards to use in a trooper list. The Stormtroopers pack gives you no additional good command cards unfortunately, but does allow you to field two each Elite and Regular Stormtroopers.

Those two packs plus the Core Set gives you everything you need to create a list I was winning Kit and Store tournaments with. (Although the meta has changed since, so ymmv. Still a strong list, though!)

2x Elite Stormtroopers (only 1 in the core box)

2x Elite Probe Droid (only 1 in the core box)

Royal Guard

2x Officer

Variants include more Officers (only 2 in the core box).

Ther are enough minis in 1 core box, but not enough cards.

Command deck: Basically, you need 1 Grenadier and two Reinforcements, the rest is up to you.

Focus, Inspiring Speech, New Orders, Squad Swarm, Strength in Numbers and Change of Plans are standards.
