Balancing the Conflict system

By ninjahX, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

So my group has had this discussion before the conflict system kinda sucks. My GM agreed so I suggested we add away to get rid of already existing conflict, but he said that'd be too easy conflict is supposed to be a thing hard to avoid. Another said "even a jedi gets conflict it's whether or not he can overcome it" fair enough but "overcoming" it based on how you rolled sound, for lack of better words, stupid.

We tried one more way in which we all started out at 5 conflict and based on our actions it would decrease, increase or, stay the same, but the GM found it too tedious to incorporate all of that into his scenarios.

SOOO heres my idea. Conflict stays as normal, BUT instead of your actions removing conflict they add to your dice roll. That way your character still retains the conflict, but gets a morale boost for the actions he did making the conflict easier to overcome. Still having the slight RNG effect, but not as bad

Thoughts...?

I have two objections to your version of his system:

-Mechanically, it's the same. +1 to die roll is probability-wise exactly the same as -1 to the number you're rolling against, except that you must track two numbers - conflict and morale - instead of just conflict.

-It introduces one weird thing: my good deeds can outweigh my bad, which game-ifies the whole thing. I can resort to combat without discussion or steps to avoid it because giving that beggar a few credits will balance things out. It means I can gimmick the system. Is my conflict too high? Guess I better go do a bunch of good deeds...

Yes, the current system can be a bit "gamey", but it's a question of, "How close can I walk to this line?" Some will stay far far away from the line and do good at every turn. Others will be more pragmatic, saying that about 5 Conflict is the cut off where they feel they'll break about even, and that feels like a proper fringe character to me. I like how it works, personally.

That's my two cents.

BUT, since you want overcoming... You might allow an Average (PP) Discipline check at the end of every session, and for every success, you can add or remove a point of conflict before the standard d10 roll. This allows you to willpower through the conflict and even risk taking higher conflict, assuming you're strong enough to resist the pull of the Dark Side (or the Light, if you're bad and want to stay that way). How does that sound?
