I certainly can understand that not every show will be to everyone's taste. (Although I'd hardly call the brevity of Firefly's brief run an indication of audience acceptance nearly as much as an indication of network mismanagement. I mean, when the last episode you air out of a dozen is the first episode...)
At the end of the day, though, I don't think we'd have Edge of the Empire without Firefly. EotE very neatly sets up the ability to do a Firefly-type setup, just using the Star Wars setting. And how many campaigns can we see out there described in the shorthand of, "It's like Firefly in Star Wars?" Without Firefly and it's after-market success, I think we'd instead see a more generalized Star Wars RPG (like the iterations that came before) rather than the three separate sub-games.
