Soldier Book

By 2P51, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Dammit! Where's our Bounty Hunter book?

That's probably gonna be the last book released ever.

You know, like how the news saves the story of the deer trashing a wal-mart for the last one of the show.

Possible titles for the Bounty Hunter Career Book?

"No Disintegrations"

"Dead or Alive"

"Any Means Necessary"

"Two Guns, One Shot"

"What if he doesn't survive? He's kind of cute.. Errr... Worth a lot to me"

"Crispa Greedo"

"Fearless and Imventive"

"Watch for blind correlians"

Quick question, 2P51, do you have any pets?

I have a Rathtar...

I'm expecting "No Disintegrations" just because it's the most obvious choice. Something less obvious like "It's Nothing Personal" or "Only Money" would be nice though....

It seems to be a conscious choice to mix 'em up, and to leave the 'sexy' professions until last. And intersperse the combat careers with non-combat ones.

Yeah. I love being a spy, but I feel that all that sexy will make it the last book of the AoR line :( .

Lasat, Shistavanen, and I have honestly no idea for the 3rd. I would not rule out that they reuse the quaren or wookie or maybe some oddball like the Zygerrians.

There was a book of that name in the old West End Games D6 line; I think it would be a perfect choice to reuse here. "Any Methods Necessary" would be cool too, though.

So, I'm new to the FFG Star Wars scene... what's the usual time span between announcement and release of new books?

Forged in Battle was announced as third quarter of this year, so September at the earliest. The Force Awakens Beginner Game was announced last week, and also for third quarter, so I'd imagine it will hit shelves first.

Glad they finally announced this one!

Cheers 2P51.

We needed some good news!

One duplicated Spec but at least it's one that fits.

Those wolf things must be one of the species, (the ones where Lucas ran out of of alien masks for the cantina scene and just used a Wolfman mask instead).

Any guesses for the others?

So far as the duplicated spec, a friend of mine will probably be pretty happy she can save herself 10 XP for her Soldier character. She's had her eye on the Heavy tree for a while now.

Neat. It'll be interesting to see what the Trailblazer and Vanguard trees look like.

Heavy talent tree will likely be identical to the Heavy in the Hired Gun career.

Man, it probably isn't, but I really want that to be a Gauss rifle. :P

Eh, if that image is consistent with existing material then you probably aren't that far off...

I also find it hilarious that the wookieepedia otaku consider Battlefront to be "canon."

I was under the impression that Wookieepedia considers everything canon. :P

But, yeah, for years I've wanted to hunt dragons with a Gauss rifle. So far, I haven't played a game that could make that happen. If FFG can make this dream a reality, I would be so happy...

.

If that's all you wanted then you could've played Rifts

Sure, if you didn't mind torturing yourself with the Palladium game system.

Well, there's a Kickstarter going to crowd fund the RIFTS setting using the Savage World game system. So at least now there's a legal option.

Take a deep breath. Just post a link. You can do this.

Wild Guess: One of the Soldier signature abilities is going to involve the judicious use of explosives/anti-armor munitions to deal with a "hard target," to represent that narrative moment when the heroic soldier single-handedly takes down the tank/emplacement/fortification that's threatening the entire squad.

"Call it extreme if you like, but I propose we hit it hard and hit it fast with a major - and I mean major - leaflet campaign."

That depends on your gender: I'm a ladies' lady, so...maybe? At least I'd rather not hear/think about it if you don't belong to my preferred gender.

Of course, you do you and all, and I understand the sentiment completely, but...as I think I've mentioned before, boys are icky!

If we're being personal, I want everyone to know I'm an equal opportunities Nerd Girl :) I like guys to be guys (y'know, beards!) and girls to be... well, anything really. Nerd gals and tomboys are good.

Back to our scheduled rhapsodising over how sloooooow FFG's release schedule is!

So tell me, Absol, what's the ETA for 'Savage Spirits' in your opinion?

Excluding boating accidents, we should go to "Shipping Now" a week from today, and hit stores on June 2.

So about three weeks left. I can't wait!

So, poll: what spec do you think the guy on the cover will be the representative of? I'm thinking he'll be the iconic Trailblazer, but I could hear an argument for Vanguard.

Or they might pull a Lead by Example and make him just the iconic Soldier instead.

What does everyone else think?

Going to be a bad a-- clone trooper.

Sure, if you didn't mind torturing yourself with the Palladium game system.

Or you could do like I did and develop an entirely new system to specifically handle it...

I call it 3D (dice pool system, every pool has 3Dice), the 2 primary design points were a traditional fantasy game and a post apocalyptic kitchen sink crossover rifts-like game, and those are what it does best (because the damage multipliers are 1 so it keeps the at table math simple), the next best thing it does is modern (the multipliers there tend to be 2 which is pretty easy), the near future/modern-superheroic setting tends to have a lot of 3's as damage multipliers which makes the at the table math a little too complicated for my preference

it has a bit in common with cortex (a polyhedral dice pool system as the core mechanic, initiative system is very similar to that in marvel superheroic but with an initiative check to determine who goes first and possible surprise rounds), but you'd also notice some similarities to FFG star wars (Advantage, destiny pool->Karma pool but it doesn't reset between sessions, some of the skills in the skill list, reloads determined by dice rolls not shot counts), FATE (aspects->my themes), star wars saga edition (destiny points [from saga and FFG] + dark side point [saga]-> my Karma chips, fortitude, reflex, will defense scores plus a "new" social defense, condition tracks [actually I have 3 instead of saga's one physical, mental social], and multiple sizes of squares e.g. normal and flying [i also have an intermediate sized square that I call falling squares]), WEG d6 Star Wars (character points), D&D 4e (diagonal squares count as 1 square, some of the skills in the list of skill came from D&D 4e, e.g. "insight", "nature"), d20 star wars (armor provides damage reduction), fuzion (skill advancement cost, and equipment that provides dice is considered character advancement and is bought with character points not money), d20 modern (wealth is a skill that can be used to buy anything that does NOT provide dice, or to bribe someone, or include it in a check to repair your car by renting a garage, basically it can be used in most skill checks, I had a PC include his wealth skill die in a stealth check dice pool by giving a female NPC some gold to buy a pretty bauble as a "token of his affection" which was really just a distraction and he ran off while she was buying the pretty bauble... so yeah wealth is one of the most useful skill despite it not being able to be used to buy any equipment that provides dice ), plus a bunch of new mechanics (race scenes and chase scenes are handled particularly well in my opinion but I may be biased)

Could be a trailblazer, as he's in the snow, and they seem to be the 'wilderness soldier' archetypes.

But he's charging, so he could be a vanguard, who seem to the 'tough guy' types.

We already have shooty types, melee types, combat medics and how heavy weapons guys.

(Although to be honest, the covers haven't given much away lately, as they did with the Explorer and Hired Gun types with nonhumans on the front.)
