I need help naming a super-weapon.

By Simon Retold, in Game Masters

So... the weapon the Empire used to destroy planets was the Death Star.

The weapon the First Order used to suck the power out of stars and redirect the energy to destroy planets was Starkiller Base.

What would you call a weapon that could conceivably destabilize hyperspace, making travel virtually impossible?

Edited by Simon Retold

The Cosmic McGuffin.

An interdiction field.

The Cosmic McGuffin.

HA! It's actually just a backstory thing. The weapon (and its effects) will be long gone before the events of the campaign.

An interdiction field.

A galaxy-wide interdiction field?

I guess what I'm looking for is a cool name for a single-use item that would disrupt all of hyperspace for, say, 800-900 standard years.

Hyper entangler

Intervention Station

The wall of despair

Jar Jar Binks

Graviton Barrier

Velocity Net

Silent Net

Restriction wall

Star Verge

Void Entangler

Dark Matter Disruptor

Malachor Torpedo

Jar Jar Binks

Ding ding ding!

Voidbreaker

The Intergalactic Hyperspacial Destabilizer

Voidbreaker

I think this one beats Jar Jar Binks.

Voidbreaker it is.

Jar Jar Binks

Yes, Yeeesss. The ultimate super weapon. Unleash a horde of them on space ports, and hire more of them as pirates... And, voila, you no longer need to disrupt hyperspace.

Glad I could help.

And here I was about to make a second suggestion: the Illudium Pu-36 Explosive Space Modulator. ;)

I actually read that in Marvin Martian's voice...

The Cosmic McGuffin.

Or Cosmicguffin.

I was going to say "The McGuffinator".

Black Hole Supernova.

If I wanted to break hyperspace that's how I'd do it.

The MAW installation is a secret imperial research base hidden within a dense cluster on black holes. The black holes will be drawn closer together over the next millennia until convergence happens, the resultant explosion will forever alter the galactic gravitational field rendering all known hyperspace coordinates obsolete.

10 thousand years of hyperspace exploration will be wiped away, plunging each system into isolation.

The scientists at the MAW have found a way to accelerate this convergence and started the process years ago, it can no longer be stopped.

The empire has planned for this by building an army of probe droids and setting up hyperspace beacons, they hope that within a decade their star destroyers will be the only ship's capable of safely navigating through hyperspace.

Quantum Destabiliser

Designed to introduce a variation in a ship's hyperdrive that's passed on via the ship's computer and communication system in time it effectively ruins the ship's navigation system specifically dealing with programming coordinates in the hyperdrive.

For all intents and purposes its a virus that renders a ship unable to activate its hyperdrive and even if they replace every system on the ship sooner or later the dispersed virus will catch up with the ship eventually stripping the capacity to enter hyperspace unless they can find a way to neutralise the cause of the virus.

Since the inventor was killed before explaining the true nature of the weapon it has remained undiscovered and unused although it's been blamed for the loss of quite a few ships whose fate remains unknown.

I'm thinking it actually works by altering any attempts to mind wipe the personality of the ship's computer to instead alter the ship's ability to program the hyperdrive.

A ship with multiple personalities like the Millennium Falcon is naturally immune as its unusual ship's computer already mimics the virus enough that it doesn't work.

Of course this means it works on and can be transmitted by any droid it comes in contact with but as long as they're not used to program the hyperdrive it will only make them somewhat eccentric so C3-P0 should be unaffected!

It's crazy how close this is to my actual plan.

And I'll go with the official designation being the Illudium Pu-36 Explosive Space Modulator, but that wasn't dramatic enough for the ruler who commissioned it. Although I might have to use something other than "Voidbreaker," as that's pretty close to the name I use for a big honkin' Imperial battle platform, the Starbreaker.

The effects of such a weapon would be catastrophic to the galaxy, no doubt. Even more deadly than the Starkiller or Death Stars combined. Instantly cutting off every star system from ever other star system. Urban planets like Nar Shaddaa and Coruscant would be devastated by starvation and have huge rapid increases in crime rates as anarchy sets in people fight over food supplies. Planets that rely on manufacturing for their economy would become ghost planets as all the factories shut down and people consolidated in places with the few natural resources left on their planets. Planets like Duros where the population lives in space stations above the surface will have to choose death in orbit or on their ruined planet. Countless worlds rely on the connections and trade that they have with the rest of the galaxy. Any world with sufficient natural resources that isn't over populated would eventually prosper. Any worlds over or under populated, or that have too few natural resources, would quickly tear themselves apart. It would be like Zombie Apocalypse for the entire galaxy (just without the zombies . . . maybe).

That's why a band of heroes needs to discover the lost art of hyperspace exploration and start mapping jump coordinates, an adventure well suited to explorers and force sensitives.

A lot of people on coruscant May be willing to chance a blind jump rather than starve.

The doomy doom of doom

The Deplanetiser... oh wait that was my nickname for the death star.

It is only logical and ironically the maw itself is artificial too, and center-point station would be the tool to stop or cause this, at least if I remember my celestial lore right.
