Redesigning the Hound's Tooth Title

Everyone can agree, the Hound's Tooth title is garbage. And there isn't much we can do about it, aside from complain. The only fix that I can even think of that wouldn't require a rework of the card would be to allow the Pup to keep half MoV of the mother ship.

But this isn't about realistic fixes. This is about making the Nashtah Pup something different. Something that more closely resembles what it should have been. And without further ado, I give you my fix.

Hound's Tooth

Title, YV-666 Only, 0 points

Equip a Z-95 pilot with the Nashtah Pup title and dock it to the Hound's Tooth. It must have the same pilot as the Hound's Tooth and may not have a crew equipped. Reduce its ship point value by half.

When the Hound's Tooth would be destroyed, deploy the Nashtah Pup and equip it with one crew from the Hound's Tooth. It may not attack this round.

Nashtah Pup

Title, Z-95 Only, 1-2 points

Your upgrade bar gets (crew symbol).

(Optional Ability that might be too good) While you are docked with the Hound's Tooth, it gains an additional (crew symbol).

Only equip this card if your pilot skill is 4 or more.

This fixes the MoV issue, allows you to have different EPT's and mods for each ship, although it could be argued that the EPT should transfer too. And it also give the scum Z-95 a small fix, that it doesn't really need, but whatever.

Obviously there would then need to be Bossk, Moralo, and Latts pilot cards for the Z-95, Moralo's ability would need to be reworked, and a Z-95 model would need to be added to the package (which would have been awesome, they could have packaged a Pup repaint).

I think the only fix the Hound's Tooth title is a discount, preferably free.

Your upgrade bar loses cannon, missile, and two crew slots. After you are destroyed, before you are removed from the play area, you may deploy the Nashtah Pup lifeboat ship. If you have already attacked this round, the Nashtah Pup ship cannot attack this round.

Nashtah Pup lifeboat
Retains the unmodified Pilot Skill and Pilot Ability of the original YV-666 pilot and the single crew on the YV-666 (if any).

I actually like the title on latts, I just wish that it was worth points even when it's not the last ship on the board, even if the opponent gets full points for the rest of the ship they shouldn't get the 6 for the pup unless they destroy it

The pup deploys with a homing missile and gains a cloak token the turn it deploys.

edit with my thoughts:

a 6pt z-95 is a great deal, unfortunately it has a drawback. it is not upgrade able and deploys late in the game when it can help very little. Adding the homing missile lets it threaten an ace and the cloak makes sense and allows it to survive one turn better.

I would like to see it handled similarly to the section cards for Huge ships. When the YV-666 is destroyed, if you have the title, you remove all damage then flip your card and deploy a Z-95, keeping any upgrades that are on the card.

This would have let them elegantly keep a crew on the Pup and let Bossk keep his EPT. I would also have the Pup count toward scoring - the Hound's Tooth isn't completely destroyed until the Pup is dead.

I like the interaction with crew idea. It makes sense.

The main thing I would like is a way to get that Z-95 into play before the Hound's Tooth explodes.

Making the Nashta Pup worth at least 12 MOV also seems essential.

Let it count the Hounds Tooth MoV, and keep the EPT.

Note that this would still be halved, but even Bossk with Calculation ends up a PS7 Z-95 with double-damage-crits, a reliable way to fire 'em, and 22 MoV on the board. That's pretty respectable; especially the MoV component.

I can respect the idea of rescuing a crew member, but the wording there rapidly gets complicated - and the Y-wing is a two-seater that didn't get a crew slot, so perhaps we shouldn't be so aggressive with those anyway. Maybe it's just a passenger seat. :)

So with all of that:

"You have the pilot skill, pilot ability, and any equipped [EPT] of the friendly destroyed ship equipped with the Hound's Tooth Upgrade card."

Plus one tournament-rules FAQ, and you're off laughing to the races. :)

The title is actually decently designed, it's just that a 2 attack dice ship is absolutely a waste of 6 points and things like Fel force you to equip hyper action economy cards like Gunner + Bossk instead of wasting 6 points on a worthless Z-95.
