Going to my first tournament! what should I bring?(preferably rebels)

By CorranHornfan, in X-Wing

Title pretty much says it all. I will most likely be flying rebels.

Bring something you enjoy, something you know well, something you can fly well, and something you can keep flying well for 8 to 10 hours of play at a stretch.

As long as it's not an actively terrible list, those are by far the most important considerations.

What do you have in your collection? What do you like to fly? What are you experienced in flying?

Just make sure you are very comfortable with the list you bring. Know what it can do, and how best to use it.

There's a lot of hot lists out there, but just about any list can work if you fly it well.

I like to fly high ps aces.

T-70s, A-wings, and Corran Horn are my favorites.

I have at least one of every rebel ship and can make additional purchases if needed (as long as I don't need like 4 of one ship).

Corran/Superdash is solid.

I was thinking:

Poe Dameron with VI, AT, and r5-p9

Ello Asty with VI, IA, and r2-d2

Jake Farrell with VI, AT, A-wing test pilot, PtL, and refit

Corran/Superdash is solid.

yeah but I don't want to fly turrets. :D

Lothal rebel, tlt, gunner, fcs, tactician (50) x2

What's better than 1 brick attached to a baseball bat? 2 bricks attached to 2 baseball bats!

Maybe say that somewhere in the OP then ;)

Oh please do bring this list I will adore flanking it, and tearing it to shreds from r1 out of arc whilst the other one is out of range.

I mean I'm not gonna pretend my suggestion is the strongest list in the world but it's surprisingly hard to do what you describe assuming the ghosts are flown well. It's possible in a vacuum to flank 1 r1 and murder it but if you can magically always get the best situation to counter any list it's hard to discuss the merits of them, no?

Okay. I'd do something like this:

Poe Dameron (31)

Veteran Instincts (1)

R2-D2 (4)

Integrated Astromech (0)

Tycho Celchu (26)

Rage (1)

Chardaan Refit (-2)

Push the Limit (3)

Autothrusters (2)

A-Wing Test Pilot (0)

Jan Ors (25)

Adaptability (0)

Twin Laser Turret (6)

Kanan Jarrus (3)

Total: 100

...and I just saw that you don't want to fly turrets. Give me a few to figure out something else.

Maybe this? I don't know if it's competitive, but it might be fun.

Poe Dameron (31)

Push the Limit (3)

BB-8 (2)

Integrated Astromech (0)

"Red Ace" (29)

R2-D2 (4)

Comm Relay (3)

Integrated Astromech (0)

Jake Farrell (24)

Push the Limit (3)

Chardaan Refit (-2)

Autothrusters (2)

A-Wing Test Pilot (0)

True.

But my main point is that I really, really dislike TLTs on ghosts (well, I don't play ghosts, so other than a general dislike of TLTs, I actually like seeing one on a Ghost as the opponent). The R1 zone is huge, the out of arc zones, even with the rear arc counting for tactician, are huge, and this combines to make you easy prey for aces, especially palp/aces where the shuttle can block and interfere with movement for the second VCX whilst the aces are hitting the first. I far, far prefer Autoblaster turrets for ghosts, it denies people their r1 bonuses and makes you a LOT harder to navigate around.

Not to mention that because of the base size of both ships, a wise opponent should be able to single one of them out and crush it with minimal interference from the other, especially if they set up their asteroids wisely.

It means you lose the option of double stressing people, and of stressing in your rear arc, but single stressing with an ABT on board is usually enough anyway.

It's by no means as cut and dried as I've implied, but... TLTs definitely work worse on VCXs than other ships IME.

5 crack-wings? Add either AT or elusiveness.

Why not try Horton with TLT, BTL title, EPT-bot and Marksmanship? Costs like a Soontir but has three super accurate shots a round. Add another Ace and some As or Zs and there's a list!

Here is a list. I call it the dirty pirate. (aye) and its dirty cuz i use a stresshog.

Corran horn, vi, r2d2, fcs, hull upgrade. 45 pts

Jake farrell. Vi, ptl, autothrusters, chaardan refit. 28 pts.

Gold squadron y wing. Tlt, r3a2. 26 pts.

It comes out to 99 pts. Can arc dodge and hit hard and aces hate double stress. Havent tried it against jumpmasters but it was a very good wave 7 list.

You would be hard-pressed to find a bigger fan of Corran than me. Lately I've been really enjoying Chopper/Corran lists.

If you have a lot of aces this chopper is a real nightmare:

Chopper Corran (99)

Corran Horn (49) - E-Wing

Push The Limit (3), R2-D2 (4), Advanced Sensors (3), Engine Upgrade (4)

"Chopper" (50) - VCX-100

Fire Control System (2), Autoblaster Turret (2), Tactician (2), Gunner (5), Ion Projector (2)

If you find stress buildup is cramping the damage, go this way instead:

Chopper/Corran Mk II (100)

"Chopper" (51) - VCX-100

Fire Control System (2), Twin Laser Turret (6), Hera Syndulla (1), Ezra Bridger (3), Ion Projector (2)

Corran Horn (49) - E-Wing

Push The Limit (3), R2-D2 (4), Advanced Sensors (3), Engine Upgrade (4)

For a combined anti-ace/maneuverability build I like switching to tactician and an initiative bid:

ChopperCorran 3.0 (99)

Corran Horn (49) - E-Wing

Push The Limit (3), R2-D2 (4), Advanced Sensors (3), Engine Upgrade (4)

"Chopper" (50) - VCX-100

Fire Control System (2), Twin Laser Turret (6), Hera Syndulla (1), Tactician (2), Ion Projector (2)

The threat of double-stress out the front or back at range 2 and the worse threat of bumping and getting an ion + stress makes for some difficult choices for your opponent.

Here's a couple ideas for 3 ace lists.

Jake, Keyan and Poe

Keyan Farlander (34)

B-Wing (29), Fire-Control System (2), Push the Limit (3)

Poe Dameron (PS8 Version) (36)

Tweak: http://xwing-builder.co.uk/build/223961

XWS: http://xwing-builder.co.uk/xws/223961

Or

Jake, Poe, Wes

100 points

Pilots

------

Poe Dameron (PS8 Version) (39)

T-70 X-Wing (31), R5-P9 (3), Weapons Guidance (2), Push the Limit (3)

Wes Janson (32)

X-Wing (29), R3-A2 (2), Veteran Instincts (1)

Jake Farrell (29)

A-Wing (24), A-Wing Test Pilot (0), Chardaan Refit (-2), Push the Limit (3), Autothrusters (2), Juke (2)

I was thinking:

Poe Dameron with VI, AT, and r5-p9

Ello Asty with VI, IA, and r2-d2

Jake Farrell with VI, AT, A-wing test pilot, PtL, and refit

I ran something similar to decent success with Gemmer replacing Jake. Gemmer having no EPT slot, still gets one from Test Pilot, so I put PTL on him, and kept AT on all 3. Surprisingly good, all things considered. Gemmer is surprisingly survivable when she's toting 4 green dice behind focus and evade actions.

That seems like a fun list for a Corran Horn fan.

I'd opt for Shield Upgrade on Corran, but otherwise it looks solid.

U-boats will be your toughest match up. They can torch that Stresshog or even Corran if he gets caught in arc.

Rebels? with a name like Corranhornfan? why i never...

if i were to fly Rebels it wouldnt be the most competitive list, but boy would it be fun.

I'd like to ammend the above..

https://geordanr.github.io/xwing/?f=Rebel%20Alliance&d=v4!s!88:175,43,-1,-1,-1:-1:11:U.75;186:-1,3,153:-1:20:;86:18,72:7:15:U.151&sn=Unnamed%20Squadron

with this it is possible ( on a dire turn for Jake Farrell) to get three evade tokens. plus a free barrel roll.

why roll dice when you can just use three evade tokens to dodge the shot.
