Hound's Tooth...is it worth it?

By shaner, in X-Wing

The trick is that they're a super shuttle who find it's strength through crew and aggression. There's a lot of great value Scum crew out there, and stacking a couple together (which is rare at the moment; everyone else has only one slot each) can result in some truly horrifying combos.

But you need to set them up to be loaded with firepower - if the enemy can afford to leave you till last, you'll almost certainly die once they're in behind you. So spec them carefully and use their 12hp to buy you time as you dish out pain with them - and threaten to dish out even more of they try to leave you till last.

But don't count on them to be your finisher, no matter how much you invest.

Oh it's got tricks, sure. But a good opponent, once behind it, shouldn't ever be shot at by it again, especially if that opponent moves after it.

(I need to actually look at echolocation and see if a hard 3 boost will put someone who bumped behind you back in arc. Hard 3 daredevil would, and DD/EU is not necessarily a bad build for the space scow.)

E: hard 3 boost doesn't get a small ship bumped behind you back in arc I don't think.

Which is why I run a VI Bossk with Engine Upgrade in a 98 point list.

The only threat then is Vader and Poe at PS 11 and 10 respectively.

I've played tag with Omega Leader and Fel like that, always being able to get out of arc and get them in mine, despite them being behind me. That and the space truck is surprisingly fast with a 4-forward and a boost.

And if they want to hug your butt.....that's what feedback array is for :D

Gotta admit, tactician + feedback array makes for one hilarious slaver doom bubble...

Feedback array is a great answer to the problem, tbh.

Might have to give that a punt.

I've done pretty well using 2 slavers and a torp boat.

BY pretty well I mean 1 store champs win, 2 top 4s and I placed 6th at the Australian Team Championships. People severely underestimate how much damage a 33-35 point slaver can dish.

It's also the only ship currently in the game that's capable of pulling off the 2-turn full stop, thanks to Inertial Dampeners.

The infinitely* stopped electronic baffle shuttle is offended.

*infinity here ending upon death so max 10 turns

Wow! Never would have thought of that. Very cool  .

well if you have ships with ept slot+turret slot (like HWK or some named Y-wing) you can stop your hounds tooths way more permamently and still shoot stuff

I feel like it's not a bad ship. It can be quite good. It isn't a "must have". Then, again, what is in Scum?

It has Bossk, it is a must have :P

The title also is great outside of tournaments, very flavourful and it is just the best thing when that Z-95 saves the game (because there are no "modified wins" in casual play.)

Sorry... everyTHING. I meant everyTHING.

I would love to see that list...if you are willing to share.

Thanks

Triple Crew makes it really nice. Boba Greedo K4.

My personal favorite is using Moralo with HLC, K-4 Security, Zuckuss, and 4-Lom. He simply devours aces.

I love that build as well, but since Wave 8 I would highly recommend swapping out the K4 for Dengar. Gives you an even deadlier Predator (against aces) and you no longer have to restrict yourself to green maneuvers, so you are a lot harder to outmaneuver. Same points.

I have a build of him with Boba Fett's Firespray, and it is deadly as hell. Better players know to go after Moralo first, because if left alone, he will chew you to pieces.

Yeah, Dengar crew is amazing. Typically I fly Moralo with Dengar pilot though. I love the Jumpmaster too. Any list where you aren't flying Dengar, you should definitely use his crew.

I've only done 5 games with the YV, but I'm thinking feedback is a must include next time.

Bit of insurance for your rear blind spot, as well as fun if you do a dead stop and have a ace crash into you to zap him.

No problem at all -

A standard plasma torp boat

Trando slaver - Zuckuss & K4 (now with Dengar, but was running K4 when I won the SC and at the Aus team champs)

Trando Slaver - Boba, Greedo, K4

100 points of pure brutality. if you can point your entire list at their key ship you can kill it in 1 round of shooting (current record is 14 damage done to a decimator in 1 round). If you don't manage to kill it Boba and Greedo will guarantee knocking out a key upgrade (HLC on Dash goes out pretty often).

Absolutely worth it. Not a perfect ship, but what ship ever is. I do find it to be a great anchor for a build, and lately, a great partner for Dengar...

Dengar 33

K4 Security Droid 3
Unhinged Astromech 1
Engine Upgrade 4
Punishing One 12

Moralo Eval 34

Excellent read. I learned a great deal. I will be picking up a Hound's Tooth tomorrow...and possibly a second Torp Boat. Love those Jumpmasters. I think I am going to try an alternate of your list....2x Jumpmaster and 1 Slaver...if it fits in the points.

Cheers

Here it is....Not sure if it will be as effective as the double Slaver build as there were insufficient points for K4 droids to ensure action efficiency.

Deadeye/R4 is probaboly better than k4 for the torpedoes, and only mildly worse in general. Although, less resistant to bumping - but more resistant to higher pilot skills moving into range after you.

yeah that list is pretty amazing and I would wager better than three U-boats. I'd really like to see Dengar on the YV though.

Off Jenkins finished 10th on Hoth Open in Poland using yv-666 and 2x jmk5000 list. Missed the cut only by like 20ish MOV. Yv-666 was Slaver with Zuckuss, 4-LOM and Dengar crew.

Trade Boba and Gonk to turn the mangler to an HLC, and the enemy shall truly know fear. ;)
