Hound's Tooth...is it worth it?

By shaner, in X-Wing

Ok, so it has an auxiliary firing arc...is that like the Firespray's rear arc or is it something different?

This "Pup Ship" that comes with the Hound's Tooth title...what is it?

Yes, instead of being out the back, it creates a 180 degree firing area in the front.

Ah yes, I forgot about the good old Electronic Waffle.

Honestly i've never seen one live past turn two of combat it goes down fast and rarely does enough damage to justify the points.

You haven't played me yet though Hobo.

Maybe at Yavin.

Sadly i wont be there but i wish you luck.

Thanks - I've just seen the schedule today, luck will most definitely be required.

It's one of my favourite ships. One of the most potent Tactician carries in the game, that arc is just so big!

Slaver, gunner, bosk, zuckas is good. Dont forget to reroll failed evades on low agi ships to trigger Bosk, when possible.

I'm really enjoyed playing with: Slaver, gunner, bock and tactician

2 x Y-wing, TLT and unhinged and a Z-95 pirate.

So, he is a lot of fun.

But, paying $45 I feel for you.

YES IT IS!

:D

It's a fun, interesting ship with limited competitive potential, but a number of very good cards, particularly Crack Shot, Glitterstim, Engine Upgrade.

Bossk/VI/Zuckuss or 4LOM/Boba/Greedo/Engine Upgrade is a solid ship.

Its real problem is that it can't turn round. If anything gets in behind it it's usually stuffed.

Oh it's got tricks, sure. But a good opponent, once behind it, shouldn't ever be shot at by it again, especially if that opponent moves after it.

(I need to actually look at echolocation and see if a hard 3 boost will put someone who bumped behind you back in arc. Hard 3 daredevil would, and DD/EU is not necessarily a bad build for the space scow.)

E: hard 3 boost doesn't get a small ship bumped behind you back in arc I don't think.

This is one of the reasons I always use EU and Outlaw Tech on my Bossk. With the stop move or the boost available there is few aces that can easily outfly this big base beast :) Of course it still can't easily turn but it definitely has a lot of options.

As you can see from all the posts this is one of the few ships that can use ALL it's pilots in one form or another. The sheer versatility with the different pilots and the three crew slots make it one of my favourite ships for casual play. I have used it in a tournament of 12 people to come second so it's not too shabby in competitive play either but definitely not top tier. A lot of fun in any case :)

I love the YV-666. My main build right now is X2 Trando slaves and a loaded out Zuckuss

Waldorf has it. It's phenomenal. I love it so much. Wave 8 brought it from a very mediocre ship to a really competitive one.

Fuzzy Jr. likes it a lot. I haven't used it yet.

You wouldn't believe how much Bossk loves Daredevil. Just saying.

Answering OP, it's a great ship for scummy teching. But its competitiveness skyrockets once you have access to wave 8 crew. Dengar, 4-LOM and Zuckuss take the YV to the next level. I'd only consider one outside of Bossk/Tac/Gunner (which can get expensive) once I had JM5K and G-1A at reach.

I don't know if it's worth it (Bossk, Crack Shot?), but it sure is fun .

The YV-666 is criminally under-rated. I've had a Gunner/Bossk Slaver take out a (non-optimized) Soontir Fel. I've used the 3-turn+Boost to out fly Vader. My personal favorite is using Moralo with HLC, K-4 Security, Zuckuss, and 4-Lom. He simply devours aces. I literally chased Whisper down and wiped him out (her? can't remember if Whisper is male or female). WHISPER RAN AWAY!

Another fun build, that I haven't tried yet, is an alpha strike Bossk.

Bossk pilot, VI or Crackshot, Homing Missiles, Guidance Chips, K-4 Security, Zuckuss, and 4-Lom. Perform a green maneuver, acquire a TL, fire the missile. The defender can't use evades or a focus token and has to re-roll any rolled evades. You have a TL/Focus/GC shot that you turn one die into a crit and then use Bossk's ability to turn that crit into 2 hits. 5 hits. Boom. You can use VI and a healthy initiative bid to go Ace-hunting or try to combo with the rest of your squad to wipe out a U-boat.

This "Pup Ship" that comes with the Hound's Tooth title...what is it?

It's a 6pt title. When/if your ship blows up, you get to detach a Z-95 with the same pilot that was flying the YV-666. It's not amazing for tournament play, but looks fun for flavor.

Never understood why they made the Pup a Z-95, when its description in the "Tales of the Bounty Hunters" was clearly a 2-person mini-shuttle scout.

I don't play competitively, so I can't comment on how "viable" it is. But I can tell you, whenever my brother puts Bossk on the board, I pee my pants a little bit. That ship hits like a hammer on steroids. And with its 180 firing arc you need to run the gauntlet to get behind it. Once you have an agile ship in its aft, the writing is on the wall, because it also maneuvers... pretty much like a hammer... on steroids... but without wheels. That metaphor sucks. But it'll knock the poopies out of your arc-dodgers/swarmers/jousters on the alpha-strike if you aren't VERY careful.

I once played Chewie and 3 z-95s against Bossk, a K(insert consonants here) and a Scyk.

Round 2: Bossk 1-shots a Z.

Round 3: Bossk 1-shots a Z. Remaining Z manages to knock a shield off the K. Chewie whiffs.

Round 4: Bossk 1-shots a Z. Chewie damages the K.

Chewie then solos the board (in something like 15 turns), because the K is already limping, the Scyk is cannon fodder, and the MF can completely outmaneuver/tea bag the Hound's Tooth.

So there you have it: both the fantastical strength, and horrible Achilles' heel of the YV-666 demonstrated in a single game.

You could pay half that if you don't subscribe to the philosophy that it is your responsibility to support a brick and mortar store

He does live in Canada so add $5 for shipping and there is:

Duty rates in Canada range between 0% and 35%, where the average duty rate is 8.56%. Some goods are not subject to duty (e.g. certain electronic products, antiques, etc.).

Sales Tax

In Canada there are three types of sales tax: a federal Goods and Services Tax (GST) at a rate of 5%, a provincial sales tax (PST) which rate varies by province, and a combination of both, a Harmonised Sales Tax (HST) Commercial importers are only subject to GST. Private importers are subject to GST, PST or HST. Sales tax is calculated based on the sum of the value of the goods, the duty, and the excise duty (if applicable). The amount of sales tax due depends on the place of residence of the importer rather than on the location where the goods enter Canada. The table below outlines the sales tax rates in the different provinces: this varies greatly.

So for him the cost might be $45 no matter which way he goes.

I am very thankful that I can get that price at Amazon but, sadly those days might be ending.

If you like to kill ace ships, a Hounds Tooth is one of the best. Plus, doing broadsides with the aux arc is very nifty.

Veteran Instincts Inertial Dampeners Bossk and the Trandoshan Slaver are both good. I've tried Moralo and Latts Razzi and they didn't work quite as well.

This is my current fav build and I was glad to see someone else thought of homing missile Bossk too.

Bossk, VI, Homing Missile, Guidance Chips, K4 Droid, with 4-LOM & Zuckuss (if you have the free points)

Expert Handling on Bossk with Intel Agent is super fun.

This is a real good Slaver build right now:

Trandoshan Slaver, Dengar, feedback array, Zuckuss

Feedback array is quite good on the Slaver. Tactician also is very good, but there's so many options with all the wave8 crew.

I just wish there was a scum defensive crew option like the Rebels have with C-3PO. Or maybe if the YV-666 had just one more hull... that would be nice.

My personal favorite is using Moralo with HLC, K-4 Security, Zuckuss, and 4-Lom. He simply devours aces.

I love that build as well, but since Wave 8 I would highly recommend swapping out the K4 for Dengar. Gives you an even deadlier Predator (against aces) and you no longer have to restrict yourself to green maneuvers, so you are a lot harder to outmaneuver. Same points.

I have a build of him with Boba Fett's Firespray, and it is deadly as hell. Better players know to go after Moralo first, because if left alone, he will chew you to pieces.

It's great. Bossk pilot and Dengar crew with a mangler cannon. Don't forget EU. I had Whispher behind me (but facing the wrong way) and took off across the map. Whisper followed and ran into my arc uncloaked for an auxiliary shot. no more whisper.

They are crazy fun to repaint and mod; otherwise I usually have a fun time with this:

Latts Razzi (33)
Outlaw Tech (2)
K4 Security Droid (3)
Weapons Engineer (3)
Hound's Tooth (6)
Bossk (35)
Veteran Instincts (1)
"Mangler" Cannon (4)
K4 Security Droid (3)
Outlaw Tech (2)
Weapons Engineer (3)
Engine Upgrade (4)
Total: 99

Amoral Eval (HLK+K4+Lom+Zuckuss) is goddamn good at ANNIHILATING freaking token-stackers

Ace-eating Bossk (VI+K+Tactician+Gunner+EU+Inertial guidance) is also fun.

Railway Bossk (Daredevil+EU+K4+Outlaw tech+Dengar) is super-fun and effective if your meta loves the old Daredevil card (especially now that red maneuver via old Daredevil works as intended)

PigtailsofDoom (Razzi+K4+Weapon engineer) is #1 fun-spoiler you might take.

Hounds tooth is a big ship with full stop and huge arc, in faction what has TLT. Where is this strategy abusing big ships with full stop, its called something like animal with big shell... Just saing
