Shuttle Tydirium Ep 2: Imperial Vets and the ID Menace

Hi All!

No show notes for this episode at the moment, but will hopefully add soon! Topics are:

  • Captain's Question: Jim asks the crew a random question and gets frothing made for his own answer!
  • Review Imperial Vets: Where we talk too much about the details and put J-bot (Jonathan) to sleep!
  • We lightly touch on Intentional Draw.
  • Rant-wing: Our protocol droid gets let out of his restraining bolt to rant for a bit.
  • 150 pt Game Play: Why do 150 points and what does it mean?

The custom card laegue (mentioned in this episode) is indeed starting soon. Submissions will be accepted starting on May15!

Check the current thread here.

This was a fun episode. Lots of news talk and a 2 for 1 sale on rants. :P

I've been looking forward to this podcast!

Why is ID in there? It's got nothing to do with Casual at all.

Yeah, we debated even doing it, but figured we would spend 5 min on it. I'm surprised Babganoosh put it in the title, though. We spent a lot more time talking about all the other subjects.

Yeah; its not a bad criticism.

We only touch lightly on ID, putting it in the title was a last-minute call by me. Don't put too much stock in what it means generally speaking.

Hey guys, I enjoyed this episode, particularly that you followed the rants up with the suggestion for the occasional 150 point game that skews current meta thinking (and makes some of your least favorite pilots and upgrades less viable). Also, I'm looking forward to you all getting back to the Ready Room!

Great to hear! We do have a Ready Room in Episode 3 (already recorded). It should come out next Tuesday. We go over Mission 1 (the Shuttle Mission). I had a lot of fun with this one. I played it a number of times with a few opponents and there is a lot of variety there. I still haven't seen the Rebels win, but it's been close!

We record Episode 4 on Thursday night and Ready Room will be about Dagobah Dave's Trench Run.

Awesome! I can't wait to hear both! I was telling some friends (who fall into the category of burned during their first games, or disliking the competitive scene) about the trench run, and the setup you have for it, and I may get a chance to pull them back into the game.

Go for Heroes of the Aturi Cluster. I've yanked back more players with that than anything else.

Also expect to see HotAC reviewed, and the designers interviewed in an upcoming episode! We're waiting until most of us have played through enough missions to have a good grasp on the system, and then we'll probably devote at least one episode to HotAC.

I created a Facebook page for the podcast. This way it can be easier for people to get notifications and or chat about what we talk about. Has anyone tried good missions? Want to know best way to print out HotAC material? Give us feedback when we are being stupid?

Why did you decide to in the end? Intentional Draw is a tournament only thing and this is a casual only podcast. I'd hate for this to fall into the pitfall of being anti-tournament rather than tournaments being completely irrelevant to it.

Actually, I said I was totally fine with it. Tournaments are really cut throat competitions and it's a legitimate move to do . Why not call a spade a spade and really treat the tournaments like they are? It's in the rules and the point is to win. I say it's all good.

It's at the 53 min mark, if you want to listen to it.

Jonathan says he's not a tournament player, but disappointed in it. Overall, we just kind of talked how people got upset.

Oh, I misread what you asked.

Well, we thought we would add it in as a 5 minute topic discussion, just to talk about it near the end of the episode. I didn't think it would make it on the subject line. We just thought it was worth mentioning because the week we recorded it that it was all over the X-wing internet. Just talking about "things in X-wing". Half our crew didn't even know about it, so we thought we would just bring it up. We really talked more about what happened and how the internet blew up.

Love the review of the new imp vets pack. Maybe do similar review of other pilots from previous expansions. Especially the lesser used ones. Porkins!

Best xwing podcast I've heard. I'm a fly casual player so it's great to hear

I didn't like the rant on zero point upgrades. They're fixes to bring them to where they should had been originally. Just because you weren't good against the ship before the fix doesn't mean it didn't need a fix.

- in any case we're not the podcast for razor sharp analysis of the competitive metagame or ship efficiencies. We're really geared to the casual spectrum of the game.

Deathfire is not a FFG creation, it just saddens me they did not use his full name on the card. http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/%22Deathfire%22_McDibs

Is that really his name? I saw that but thought it was maybe not right... seems very un-starwarsy to me.

I think it the real deal, I have heard the name Mcdibs on these forums before. I have never played Galaxies though, so I only have it from Wookipedia.

Oh, that's just our cranky protocol droid being cranky. i don't have anything against the defender fixes, and I don't think Jim does either, really. I think they're perfectly justified.

Haha! I was going to say the same thing. I love the 0 pt upgrades. I just let J-bot go on a rant without spinning him up. I'm all for them.
