A-wings...how best to use them?

I guess I could have been clearer.

I wouldn't run that light of a screen. It's just when selecting squadrons I have to weight between 3x A-Wings or 2 2400s as a part of my total force.

If the fighter screen isn't light, then I'm looking at two considerations: 1. How do I ensure that my overall squadron total is an even number, because that does make a difference at placement. 2. Those 2400s with Rogue make an excellent follow-up to the rest of the fighter screen. There's a certain level at which I sync my squadron activations from ships with what I'm taking, and the 2400s might fit much better outside of it.

I guess it partly depends upon what the rest of the squadron list is, though.

I really do love A-wings. Yeah, Intel might limit their effectiveness over pre-wave 2, but with good placement, you can get good use out of counter. My sense in looking at the different intercepting options from a mathematical standpoint is that you really do want to activate almost every non-Rogue fighter from a ship. There's just too much damage potential you're leaving at the table otherwise.

I normally buy my bombers and their escorts. Usually this is all the squad activations I plan to have dedicated. Then I top off the squadron points with A-wings. Even without activations the counter makes them effective, and they step into the spots created as escorts are wiped out

In what sense does IG88 "shut down" A-wings? You mean their counter? Vanilla counter is trivial in the pitched anti-squadron fight, especially once per round.

As for Jan, IG88 isn't going to one-shot anything with any degree of reliability, and one scatter isn't going to save his 21-point ass from the immediate counterattack. Sure you can use Advanceds to try and keep him alive, and Dengar to release him to go chase Jan to try for a second shot, and Mauler to increase your kill chances... but then you're talking about not one dude but a whole squadron build and tactics..

I never said anything about one shoting anything, yeah he needs stuff around him but he Is a direct counter to the most popular rebel squadron in the game imo. Not sure what you think he is missing speed 5, hull 5, AS really good, Battery solid, keywords amazing, special jaw dropping. All for 3 points less than Dash and the same price as The worthless Nym. Seems pretty good to me. O yeah he has the best defensive token in the game too. But your right idk what I'm talking about ;)
