Ion Cobra 9, how playable is it?

Put this list together for ***** and giggles, but the more I look at it the more I like it for Tournament play.

Use Palobs ability to steal focus from his target, triggering opportunist for a 4 dice ion cannon. Dengar allows up to two rerolls, and you have the targets stolen focus to turn those eyes into hits. So far, my experience with Dengar, against Aces, is that I'm connecting 3 hits each turn.

Breaks your PS 9 theme, though.

Having both Palob and Kavil running opportunist is a lot of accuracy. Most people stop focusing when palob is in range. That gives you a chance for both Kavil and Palob to trigger opportunist. Kavil throwing five dice to ionize his target, Palob throwing four with up to 2 rerolls and focus. Then you sweep Talonbane in behind those ionized ships next turn with a 5 red dice at range one... The only downside is that the Kihraxz doesn't have a 1 straight.

This is all great in theory-wing, not sure how'd it work in practice.

The biggest problem with this list is that you're putting points into getting to pilot skill of 9 all across the board, but you don't have the points for an initiative bid, so if Vader and Fel come in with a 98-point squad, you've wasted two Elite upgrade slots and one point for VI. I think I'd drop Engine Upgrade from Kavil.

I found having the Engine upgrade on Kavil allows him to be positioned so he is always pointing his nose away from a target but it is a good point. I played a match with the list and while I lost the fact I had an engine upgrade on that Y wing actually forced my opponent to really work for it.

If, by some miracle, Kavil ends up 1v1, PS9+TLT+R5 should swing it your way. You can also replace R5 with Unhinged and/or give Serissu Tractor Beam to increase your bid.

As for your question...I woudln't count on it making money, fortune and fame for you. But should be a fun ride.

I have too wonder why go with Crack Shot and Glitterstim instead of Predator? While Glitterstim could be used defensively. It is only a one turn ability where predator is every turn. so I am wondering what led you to that choice?

Crackstim makes that alpha attack much more solid, while being cheap.

What about using an R4 Argomech to improve accuracy for Kavil? or do u Figure the R5 just to good to give up on this style of list?
