The Defenders are coming...(what are we thinking so far?)

By JamieSpace, in X-Wing

I also imagine triple Glaives being pretty strong. You can run them as either 3 x7 with vi or crackshot or 2 x7 juke and 1 adaptability (or naked x7). Feels vaguely like imperial Brobots to some degree.

Imp Brobots with 3 dice guns (no HLC), no gunner effect, no FCS. I think they "defend" like Brobots, but from what I've played with them, they don't "hit" like Brobots. The caveat is you get 3 ships, so you MIGHT be able to make focus firing make up for that lack of damage.

I DO like that the x7's can live a LONG time, though. They certainly get plenty of chances to plink away and make their shots count. It's just a pain to rely on single modded red dice, and only 3 of them, at that.

I agree, and interestingly triple Defenders are favored against most brobots lists. They can outjoust and/or outlast them pretty well. Triple Defenders might become the new brobots.

Will /D push more towards large base ships, as they are less effected by Tractor beam and Ion cannons? Any indications from Proxy or vassal games?

TB equipped vessery murders big ships once he strips an agility off them they die very quick, I've had no trouble killing big ships.

Yeah, it's weird. Whenever I've taken Defenders against Brobots, I just killed them. Before the titles. They really, really don't like Vessery.

I've never seen defenders lose to brobots even in the hands of someone who's never used them before.

So is the common consensus that its triple Defenders or bust? Am I the only one that is going to throw a single, named Defender in a list? I mean, VI Vess with /D title, tractor or Ion will really help out Omega and Inquisitor.

That being said, I think Vess is going to start having a hard time once PS11 Poe with "Black One" title becomes common place. Maybe get used to Maarek with Predator?

Oh no you can mix and get some great lists like my avp list:

Colonel Vessery — TIE Defender 35

Veteran Instincts 1

Tractor Beam 1

Hull Upgrade 3

TIE/D 0

Ship Total: 40

The Inquisitor — TIE Advanced Prototype 25

Juke 2

TIE/v1 1

Ship Total: 28

Darth Vader — TIE Advanced 29

Adaptability 0

Advanced Targeting Computer 1

TIE/x1 0

Ship Total: 30

But we've never had the ability to have three named defenders before it's also a pretty decent list if not ultra competitive.

Vessery will be the most common but I've been trying stele with calculation and it's not a bad option at all.

No i dont think that is the case. Triple D could become a new archetype, but you can easily plug just one defender into the existing Palp Aces or Triple Aces archetypes and do well.

If the ordnance meta continues i dont think new Poe will have much of an impact, and even if Vessery will still be the strongest overall choice if you can provide TL. Dude effectively gets 3 actions a turn without PTL, the dream.

loving the Defender chatter.

Has anyone thought about the Flechette and Ion cannon combo on some Deltas? that's an Ion and stress on a ship which if its small base is really going to suffer next round (if all goes to plan)

Could fit a Juking Maerek with them then? Maybe its too much low PS?

It's really dependant on if your facing aces or not if they are PTL users you lose the benefit from flechette cannon but still get the damage.
