Traktor beam and simultaneous attack

By Rasputindarksyde, in X-Wing Rules Questions

A friend and myself were playing a game and this came up.

I had Ten Numb with a Traktor beam and he had Serassiu with a Traktor Beam Both at PS8. He had Inititive so shot first. He barrel rolled me onto a rock. Meaning I couldn't shoot. But I was thinking simultaneous attack meant I should get the shot off before I actually got moved to the rock. We looked up rules and couldn't find anything about it.

So what is the way it should be done. Ten would be on rock therefor couldn't shoot or I got a shot before I was on the rock?

Also another question. After I was put on the rock. Next turn I advanced sensors(barrel rolled) off of said rock so I wouldn't have to take damage. Is this legal? Seems to me it should. As you only forfeit action when you move onto a rock. The barrel roll stick didn't touch rock either if that matters.

Simultaneous Attack Rule does not apply here. The only thing it does to give you the chance to activate and make an attack even if you are destroyed, but it does not override any effects that prevents you from attacking, like asteroid or Blinded Pilot crit.

It is legal to barrel roll of the rock as long as the template does not overlap:

A ship can still perform free actions even if it moved through or overlapped an obstacle, as long as the ship is not stressed.

Both pilots with tractor beams and the same pilot skill means the player with initiative will shoot first. And if that puts you onto an asteroid, then you will lose the opportunity to shoot back. This is one reason why some players avoid making a list that's exactly 100 points, in order to try and secure the initiative.

As for the barrel roll off the rock, Ubul is absolutely correct.

This is why initiative can be so important
