T.O. Question

By JxSparrow7, in X-Wing Off-Topic

This is a two parter question. First, I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this question, so if someone could tell me a better place, that would be awesome.

The main question is how can I become a T.O.? My area has two very corrupt TOs that abuse the system harshly. If there was a way to get them banned, that'd be great, but we'd need new TOs. I wouldn't mind becoming one for one of the local game stores that I support just to try to make it a little bit more fair for players.

Thanks for any help.

It's up to the store.

You're best off talking to the owner. You might have to start as a sub and then slowly take over more responsibility.

This could've gone on the main page, but I think you'll get your answer here anyway.

As Shenannigan said it's really up to the store and the players at the store. If the TO is a problem you'd have to either convince the store owner to stop letting that person run events. Or else convince the players to tell the owner they won't show up for any events that the person in question is the TO for.

There's nothing that FFG can do, they can't ban a TO, the most they could do is refuse to sell store championship or other tournament kits to that store. But they only tend to do that when the kits are sold on ebay or something.

So what you have to do is let your play group sort it out.

Actually, they can, under the Suspension System that they have in place...

part and parcel of the system was the differentiate Players, Judges and Marshals - and being suspended from Organised Play is being suspended from Organised Play.... Judge, Marshal OR player.

If they are corrupt. If they are violating the integrity of Organised Play.

Gather Evidence. Report it.

The most they could do is ban someone from official events. And even then it would be up to the store owner to actually enforce it.

So if the store owner doesn't, the most FFG could do in that case is stop selling kits to that store.

Plus the amount of evidence you'd need is going to be pretty high. Far easier to get the owner to stop letting that person TO.

Unfortunately, we think that this specific store is in on it to a point. The TO participates in the local tournaments and acts as rule judge, TO, and player at the same time. Supposedly he almost always wins the tournaments, getting to double dip in the prize (taking the judge prize as well as the 1st place prize) and always, always "banks" his winnings to the store. But unfortunately there's no real way to get solid evidence, especially if the store is dirty.

I'm trying to get a group going at a different game store which is a bit less shady. I'm hoping to not let these particular TOs get involved. They're really rude to new players and just all around dishonorable. I'm wanting to try to make a more friendly environment. It just sucks that these guys are giving this awesome game such a bad rap.
