Rebel Support

By Sanguinary Dan, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I've been trying to find a way to use the HWK-290 in a list and think I may have hit it here. What do y'all think?

Rebel Support (100)

Kyle Katarn (33) - HWK-290

Adaptability +1 (0), Twin Laser Turret (6), Recon Specialist (3), Moldy Crow (3)

Poe Dameron (34) - T-70 X-Wing

Adaptability +1 (0), R5-P9 (3), Integrated Astromech (0)

Tycho Celchu (33) - A-Wing

Rage (1), Proton Rockets (3), A-Wing Test Pilot (0), Guidance Chips (0), Push The Limit (3)

I have run a similar support ship and it works well. The ability to feed Poe Focus tokens is handy if you need to pull a red maneuver or want to TL.

I would try to find the points to get Autothrusters on Tycho rather than Guidance chips. With Rage, you will have 3 rerolls and a Focus token to spend when you shoot the Prockets.

I really want Autothrusters but the only ways to pay for them either neutered the HWK or cost me the Prockets. Any suggestions?

If you lose the Prockets, you can refit the Awing, then throw VI on both Poe AND Kyle? Or season EPT's on them to taste anyways?

Lose the title. It's a commodity and nowhere near as important as AT on Tycho. While you're at it, give Poe VI.

Two significant changes, same firepower.

have you considered garvin?

instead of kyle he does more damage and then and throw his focus onto poe for the end of turn

I am inclined to agree. With 2 Focus tokens per turn to hand out or use, Kyle does not really need to "bank" them for future turns. VI on Poe and Autothrusters on Tycho will give you more bang for your points.

Trouble with Garvin is that he attacks at PS6. Unless your opponent shoots him earlier (giving you an opportunity to spend the Focus token). Poe really wants his Focus Token while making his attacks, not just to spend on shields at the end.

Esege Tuketu is another alternative to Kyle that can boost Poe quite effectively but the K-wing is a different sort of ship. Up to you if you want to go down that route.

I was just thinking he has one for attacking and then after garvin attacks he gets a second one

Sadly you can only spend 1 focus token per turn on R5-P9 so an extra one won't benefit much. It might come in useful if you roll more than 1 Focus and so would rather spend the token to get the extra hits/dodges but that is pretty situational.

I'd rather drop Mouldy Crow than the Prockets. That extra firepower forces the enemy to really, really respect Tycho.

So VI for Poe and Autothrusters for Tycho. Hmmm. Yeah. I can make that work. :)

My major concern here is the lack of overall durability, Kyle won't last very long.. I like the rockets onTycho that would keep me from focusing down Kyle for a moment. I think auto thrusters in place of Moldy Crow will be a good setup just watch Kyle's placement, because I would likely focus him first to stop a double focus Poe. Tycho will make it to late game which is nice since he's good at dodging and lining up shots.

The thing about Kyle in support is that while he gives Poe plenty of nice options, Poe doesn't need Kyle to function. If your opponent does concentrate on Kyle it won't really cripple Poe and you will still be hitting him while he is gunning for the HWK.

Running the HWK slightly behind your other 2 ships is a good move as they have to fight their way past you heavy hitters to actually get to Kyle. While the TLT HWK looks flimsy on paper, I have found it is pretty effective. Even if it does get shot down (and it often will), it contributes well to the battle.

I've flown that squad a few times, but with Jake Farrel instead of Tycho (with VI, not rage). You can arcdodge with him in the combat phase and/or get closer to throw the prockets.

It's really funny and quite competitibe, when you get used to it.

Have you considered this?
