Looking for a 3rd ship.....

By DereckSean, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I have Regionals back to back weekends coming up and I need a third ship to run with.....

Poe Dameron (31)

- Adaptability (0)

- R5-P9 (3)

- Autothrusters (2)

Jake Farrel (24)

- VI (1)

- Title (0)

- PTL (3)

- Autothrusters (2)

(Prockets [3] or Chad Refit [-2])

I'm dead set on running Poe & Jake, and AT on Poe, in the local meta AT is just a necessity due to the amount of turrets. I have a 5 point swing based on if I run Prockets on Jake or not. What is the best 31 or 36 point ship I could run with them? I have experimented with Kyle in a HWK, but it burns down quickly against Scouts and B-Wings (I've run Keyan, Ten, Nera) but they struggle against Aces that arc dodge well. Or do I run a Y w/TLT and naked Z? Thoughts?

Try Keyan with VI, FCS, e2 and Hera. It's a seriously effective dogfighter and people really don't expect a B-Wing to be as nasty a knife fighter as a TIE Fighter.

I've been playing this list with Keyan and VI, FCS, Mangler while dropping Prockets off Jake. The problem with Hera on that is it doesn't leave me enough points to put Prockets back on Jake and leaves me at 98. I could take the 2 point bid, which may or may not be useful depending on my opponents.

I've also toyed with the Title and either Navigator, 3PO, Jan or Lando on the Keyan.

You could run another A-Wing?

Tycho Celchu (26)

Push The Limit (3)

Rage (1)

Refit (-2)

Stealth Device (3)

A-Wing Test Pilot (0)

31 Points

Could run autothrusters if you want for the 1 point bid.

It's a whole lot of fun running out of stress tokens to follow him around, but man is he tough to kill...

And you keep Jake's prockets. (EDIT)

My only fear with a dual A-Wing build is the inability to lay enough damage to place well. My goal isn't to win but to give myself a chance to at least Top 16, possibly Top 8. The idea is Jake to arc dodge and make difficult to hit, Poe can* arc dodge, but regens and hits hard enough, and have a survivable support ship to throw consistent damage or have a pure hard hitting jouster. I do appreciate all the advice. I have until Friday night to decide at least.

I would look to include Red Ace for double Rebel Regen.

36 Red Ace (29)

R2-D2 (4)

Integrated Astromech (0)

Comms Relay (3)

Even with IA instead of Autothrusters, Red Ace is astonishingly tanky and almost always survives the battle. I have only lost Red Ace once due to "pilot error" (I got my dial turned around and flew off the table). Everyone concentrates on Poe due to his killyness but if you leave Red Ace until late-game, she is almost impossible to kill.

With the ability to barrel roll AND boost, or turtle up if you want AND still get your rerolls from rage, you'll be pushing 3 dice at whomever you want. You said your meta is heavy turrets which means low agility ships all over the place. The awings should both be able to plunk through a couple of hits each per round. And if you take one ship off the table, you will most likely win at time at the very least because your ships should still all be on the table. Take out a fat turret and your MOV will be decent...

What about an E-Wing? Good late game with those 2 ships, wont draw much fire, and could be a blocker to set up for Poe. Good HP, damage, and dial. Problem is the likely low PS and lack of autothrusters. You could do Knave with R7Astro and FCS.

What was the load out you ran on Nera?

Because this one:

Nera (26)

Deadeye (1)

EM (2)

Proton torps (4)

FCS (2)

GC (0)

Total 35 points

Having 360 degree torp fire usually is pretty effective at dealing with arc Dodgers

So depending on whether or not you take PRockets, and whether or not you want your bid at PS9 to be either 1pt or 2pts, you have between 35 and 29pts to with.

Here are some solid options in that price range:

Ezra Bridger (20) 29pts (or 33pts with TLT)
Push the Limit (3)
Autoblaster Turret (2)
Chewbacca (4)
Miranda Doni (29) 35pts
Twin Laser Turret (6)
Gray Squadron Pilot (20) 28pts
Twin Laser Turret (6)
R3-A2 (2)
BTL-A4 Y-Wing (0)
Biggs Darklighter (25) 26pts
R4-D6 (1)
Integrated Astromech (0)
Kyle Katarn (21) 34pts (or 35pts with Chewbacca crew)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Twin Laser Turret (6)
Recon Specialist (3)
Moldy Crow (3)
EDIT:
Also, for 35pts, you shouldn't totally discount this unorthodox pair:

Rookie Pilot (21)
R3-A2 (2)
Integrated Astromech (0)
Bandit Squadron Pilot (12)
Total: 35
They're not as singularly powerful as any of the ships mentioned above, but the Stress X kind of demands to be dealt with when you're fighting against Imperial Aces, and adding two extra ships can be beneficial against low agility ships who are acting as dice checks (like Ghosts and Decimators). They're likely to explode, but against Imperial Aces the Stress X will act like a PS2 Biggs for 23pts and the Z-95 can take pot shots at an Emperor shuttle or try for a lucky block or two.
...and here's two more decent additions, just in case you decide that you need bulk after your two ace inclusion. The third autothruster set is mean vs. turrets and the extra Z-95 for additional, cheap red dice. The crack shot leaves Imperial Aces a little something to consider, and both can come in at PS4.
Green Squadron Pilot (19)
Adaptability (0)
Chardaan Refit (-2)
Crack Shot (1)
Autothrusters (2)
A-Wing Test Pilot (0)
Tala Squadron Pilot (13)
Total: 33

...I'd also like to toss in that even though it's cool to have both your Aces at PS9 so you can make the activation interchangeable, and there are admittedly a fair amount of PS8s running around right now, you should consider paying the extra point to toss Poe up to PS10, because moving after Whisper AND shooting before her can win games that might otherwise be much more difficult.

This is almost exactly what I ran, I believe my build was no Deadeye, VI instead and the title with Chopper Crew. It worked fairly well.

All solid advice guys.....I have a lot to chew on.

Quite honestly, there's a LOT of really good info here. Really, the best thing you could do is fly it all. Even if you can't fly them all against all possible squads you'll face, we all have a preferred manner in which we fly. Maybe a jousty B-Wing feels slow to you, or you just can't seem to get that boost and barrel roll on the A-wing where you want it to go. Maybe an extra ship on the board gives you that extra measure of comfort.

At the end of the day, if you're comfortable with what you're flying, you'll do better with it than a "perfect list" just because you know what to expect from your squad and that usually means the difference between a win and a pretty fireball on your side of the board.

Raging Farlander

AS + Rage + Jan Ors crew = 36pts

Adv sensor and rage, Jan turns that rage focus into an evade for defense. Do a green move, remove 1 stress. Attack and remove the second stress to end stress free.

Ace Hunting Jan Ors

VI + ABT + EU + Numb = 33pts.

Jan being PS10, sees where all those aces are, then with Nien Numb, plus boost, can get into range 1 and ABT them, or get her ass to range 3 for defense. Also, with EU, she can arc dodge, keeping her alive longer than a few HP can. All the while providing Poe and Jake more punch. Jake 4 att range 1, you say? Her main objective is to make Poe and Jake hard hitters, so arc dodge and get out of range as much as possible. Only attack if an arc dodging ace is in sight.

Wild Block Party

Fringer + IA + APL = 33pts

Every list can use a blocker! Enough points for a Fletchette or Ion Cannon. Makes for a nice range 3 attack for a 2pwt. Or upgrade to Eaden Vrill. With all the stress out there nowadays he is practically a 3PWT.
