Faclon with Illicit upgrades.....

By shotbyscott, in X-Wing

Nah the ORS would never be used over the feedback fringer

Dem rolls, son!

what's more exciting than the illicit (not terribly useful on the currently useful falcons) is the compartment itself

it takes up a mod slot, but allows you to equip another mod while saying something about squad points

this most likely means either

  • you may equip another mod that costs X or less squad points
  • as above, only you don't have to pay the cost (think Tie/x1)

the most expensive mods right now are SU and EU (both 4), so if there's a squad point limit you can BET these two will be disallowed

what does this mean? This means you can fix the less useful generics while not overpowering the already useful named pilots :D

the named pilots live and die with EU; they will never give it up. The generics, however, find it far less useful at lower PS. Large base boost is disgusting for blocks, but it's a prohibitive tactic at the point cost that the falcon and yt-2400 clock in at

imagine, however, if in disallowing EU smuggling compartment also

  • has a negative point cost
  • gives a free mod (of X squad points or less)

in addition to allowing an illicit slot

that'd be pretty swanky, imo

There is no way that it will have a negative cost. The card itself is not limited, and is a modification. Whatever the mod cost threshold for Smuggler's Compartment, the card itself will have to be at or above that, otherwise you could

Take a Smuggler's Compartment, gain an illicit slot

Use your new second mod slot to

Take a Smuggler's Compartment, gain an illicit slot

There is no way a Rebel ship becomes the first ship in the game to feature two illicit slots, and especially not with a negative cost attached.

When will this set be released? Do we know yet? I wanna pre order like....now! :P

Some time yet. It's still in development, it's likely that it will then be around 2 months at the printer, then 6 to 8 weeks on the boat and a week or two for shipping, so probably not in stores much before August at the very earliest.

For reference, I think Imperial Veterans was announced last December or January. As you know, we don't have them 5+ months later. I'm thinking October of this year.

Smuggling

Compartments

YT-1300 and YT-2400 only.

Modification. Limited.

Your upgrade bar gains the

[illicit] upgrade icon.

You may equip a second

Modification card that

costs X or fewer

squad points.

Also,

Pattern

[Tech]

When executing a red maneuver,

you may resolve the "Check

Pilot Stress" step after

the "Perform Actions" step

(instead of before that step).

So sorta Tech version of Advanced Sensors.

Someone in my FB group suggested "Burnout SLAM".

Anyway, it seems like the Smuggling hold probably won't see a lot of play as you probably can't equip both it and engine.

I think it also depends on the cost of Smuggling Hold. Really hoping it is 0 or it really wont see play.

I think you may see a generic falcon with the Slam illicit or Dampeners her and there.

That's because Imp Vets just got on the Boat two weeks ago... we'll have our defender and bomber goodness around June, just in time to shake up nationals!

The Smuggler's Compartment should be unique, or have something on it limiting to one per ship.

Hey now Han can take the little Hotshot blaster on his Falcon, like in Empire Strikes Back.... though why one would want to sicne it alreadyy has a Prmary weapn turret, is beyond me.

I wonder how big it is, could you fit an X wing in it for a nasty surprise ? (only joking)

Vets went on the boat opn 31 March, so nearly 6 weeks now. Hopefully here before June, but it's been barred from Yavin :(

My old Wookiee storybook had the Falcon Launching a two man scout ship very like Delta-7 or Delta-12 starfighter. So yeah a cargo hold with a ship in it on the Falcon was something that was already thought up back in the 70s. Totally needs to happen in this game too!

SLAM makes sense...if you read the new young adult novel Smuggler's Run, they use the Falcon's illegal SLAM modification. I know the pictures can be wrong, but I do not see any ion tokens in the spread, so I would guess that the illicit SLAM upgrade is one time use. It probably costs 1 or 2 points.

They did that with Luke's x-wing in the Thrawn books, when the freighter got tractored it blew apart and Luke flew off to safety.

What I don't get is why on earth they forbade it from small ships :( is there any good reason anywhere?

At least now we know how he did the Kessel Run in under 12 parsecs with SLAM.

with Crack and Glitterstims he could even go back in time...

Because then every single small ship in the game could equip Illicits.

From the look of the cards, it's the SLAM illicit specifically that is Large Ship Only.

Which makes sense to me from a fluff perspective (bolt a huge scramjet onto a z95 you just tear the z apart when you fire it) but from a balance perspective I have no idea.

I had a horrible thought yesterday whilst chatting about this at game night.

If the Smug Computer (or Smuggling Compartment whatever) IS YT1300 and YT2400 only...

Oh god Feedback Array on Dash. HELL no.

Because? If he has to give up engine to get it it's far from a no-brainer. And if he uses it twice to ion himself he's pretty much screwed because of the donut hole.

WHich is not a donut hole any more it is an autodamage hole.

A lot depends on what the exact wording of the Smug Computer is, and what limits it places on the second mod you can fit (if indeed that's what it allows).

It's going to be a different, and more difficult, build, I think, because it blocks the best counter to dash which is donutting him with higher-ps aces.

You might want to take a look at the list that won GenCon last year, Dash with APL does pretty much the same thing at a lesser opportunity cost and that has been around for a long time. I'm not saying it wont see play, but i think you're blowing out of proportion how good feedback array on Dash will be.

Also it's very likely you wont be able to equip engine +illicit due to the wording on the card.

Feedback array does cover the weakness of the doughnut hole but it comes at a high cost to use, especially for only 1 damage on the attacker. It also costs EU which is probably going to be more useful in general circumstances.

These work at the cost of an attack, but they will put fighters in very advantageous positions - with a 4 followed by a 4k, will basically teleport you directly onto the enemy's 6 in the first round of combat.

Yeah, that's gonna be super fun. I'm also looking forward to SLAM>aSLAM>Boost if there are any ships which have native boost that can get this.

Brobots, particularly. If you know you're getting no shot, you can clear a HUGE amount of space to turn round this way. Means you have to take ASLAM rather than autothrusters though, but that might be worth it depending what the downside is.
