Sheffield Regionals Uk

By Ma22a, in Star Wars: Armada

I was also at the regionals, it was a good event. I placed 11th with 24 points using a mon mothma 2 x MC30 and 3 x CR90. There was one other MM player and i think that list finished in the top 8.

I stayed until the end and watch the final game.

The top two list were a Rieekan Aces: MC80, Yavaris and CR-90 plus Jan, Luke, Wedge, Keyan, Dutch and 2 B-wings. And also a Screed 3 Gladiator list with Rhymer, Dengar, Tie Advanced x 2 and Firesprays x 3

After a long final round (nearly 3 hours) Screed won. (this list also topped swiss)

The store is going to post the top 8 list on their facebook page and when they do I will add it to the regionals thread for analysis.

I saw a reasonably even mix of Rebel/Imperials although I was always drawn against fellow rebels. I only saw 4 Nebulons in all lists, 1 of them mine.

I also only saw 4 Nebs, and they were all in Rieekan Aces list. To make it worse I was running two of them, with the oddity of salvation! Oh and it gets better, I got the fortune of playing both of the other two Rieekan aces lists......

Never taking superior position again....

For now, I can stop playing Rieekan for a while.

I got the Wookie spoon (i.e. last...) but had a great day, and got a large Wookie ;). Got a 9-1 win in the first round, and then proceeded to lose 9-1 three times, but given that it was my first tournament with my first tabletop game, I can't be too gutted. Plus I had a great time and met an amazing crowd - for a competitive event it was a supportive and friendly environment, and there was a generally good-natured atmosphere. Think it just goes to show the kind of community we're building.

Spotted a lot of issues with my list (I too will never be taking superior positions...) and made a lot of mistakes, but looking forward to working those out and getting back on the board. Thanks to all!

I had great fun too finished in 18th using a Doddona the oppressor list. Lots of fun lost two games first by picking the wrong mission and giving too many bonus points away. The second by not playing to the strengths of my list and being taken apart by demolisher of David Bird who finished 3rd. Last game I played to the list strength ignoring the objective till late in the game.

I had an AMAZING time at my first Regional! Far from being intimidating, people were helpful and friendly. I had feared there would be a lot of 'you didn't move that role before you said that sentence so you now lose your command' type stuff but instead it was way more 'hey, remember to say if you want the token or are using the command'. That put me at ease right from the start.

I saw a lot of Motti's/Rhymerballs, a lot of Rieken's, No Clonisher's (people I spoke to seemed to say for the most part: very powerful, very difficult to use right). Was pleasently surprised by the continued existence of Nebs, VSDs and MC80s. Carrier builds and big squad forces seemed to be the order of the day. Not as many swarms as I'd expected.

I came 14 out of 31 and am over the moon with that!

The community of players gathered there was great: friendly and fun and a credit to the game attracting decent people. I hope to see thefolks I met again.

Shout outs to Admiral Frisky, Viperous and Shuffman who all helped me prepare for the tournament with list advice and rules help. The Shuffman cheat sheet guide to the rules is ace!

Particular thanks to Ginkapo though. He was my first game and took the time to explain not only my errors but also his own tricks and traps so that I have a chance and he could have an actual game. He should have won 10-0 but only got a 6-4 because of his own sense of honour. Never was the 'Best Sportsman Award' more richly earned.

So are people not playing

So are people playing Rieekan led lists because they are a hard counter to Clonisher type Builds or is he generally better than other rebel leaders ? I ask because I've never once felt the need to play him myself as my gut has always been MM and Ackbar are better and Doddonna is more cost effective, but he seems to be the only rebel leader turning out the results.

If it looks like Clonisher builds are not turning up in droves will people stick with Rieekan because he's generally good and well rounded or drop back to other leaders ?

I took Rieekan because of the synergy with the list.

The bare bones of the fleet are Yavaris, AdarTallon flagship, Salvation and Keyan. (Sure there are 113 more points in squadrons and other upgrades too.)

Each of those three ships pack an immense punch in a single activation with the help of Keyan and co. What Rieekan does is allow each ship to punish their killer with uncontained vengeance. In most cases the two nebulons trade up in value with their deaths. No other commander offers that.

And zombie Wedge is amusing.

(Till someone just kills Rieekan and ruins the fun, or kills the nebs with cheaper ships...)

ARRRGHH RIEEKAN!! Even when I killed him he still Zombie-revenged everything I had! Seriously: with all the tricks and traps of Ginkpo's list (he made his Nebs sing against me) Rieekan was a brilliant choice. So much for player 1 advantage... ;)

Cheers man. Let us know if you ever want a game. We're both pretty keen.

i'll catch you on Vassel no doubt in the coming days :) I'm certainly up for some games

I was the madman running 3 Whales and 9 X-wings. Sadly missed out on top 16 by 1 point but I still had a fun day and met some nice people.

Not sure of all the lists but i know the top three in general - unfortunately i do not know who the real life people are vs their nicknames here!

Armada%20Sheffield%20Regional_zpsfzcvls2

Laurence Evans had a triple Gladiator list (and eventually won)

Pete Rees had Reiken rebel list

David Bone Rymer, Motti ISD Gladiator and Raider (he smashed me 10-0 in game 3)

Sounds like a great event!
Still super sad i couldn't join.

30 players is ace and fingers crossed it becomes the standard for that level of event.

The final games wasn't time capped?

That was a good game. I'm glad I took the honour of being the first to harpoon a whale.

How does one get more than 30 tournament points in a 3 game tournament?

Three Games Swiss

Then Cut to Top 2.

That last game is still scored for Final standings.

How does one get more than 30 tournament points in a 3 game tournament?

It was a 4 round tournament with a 5th game for top2

Ah. I thought this was a compilation of many regionals and the winners thereof.

Just updated my blog on this event, for those interested follow the link!

Happy Reading

Was really interested by how you recorded the game, so pleased to see the write-up, even if it's a painful reminder. ;) You played our last game beautifully, I was pretty well battered.
