Sheffield Regionals Uk

So who's going ?

Kinda curious to find out who's on here that I know that are going, be nice to meet face to face.

I will be there, sporting a rebel fleet.

I tried to get in but it was full up. There is one in Bonnie Scotland but it is a long way by train.

I will be sporting the Nebs. Not expecting to win with the list but should be some fun games.

Wait, when is it? I might be near there soon

The Lanark (Knightly Gaming) one? Come on up, would be cool to have some new faces on the tournament scene here!

I would love to but it is over 200 miles one way.

Would love to but York to Lanark is £98 by train and would involve 2 nights in a Travelodge.

I'll talk to the other players in my area and see if we can get a car together.

They do seem to have gone for a very remote offering for Regionals - Sheffield is the closest one for me, followed closely by, like, Bumsville or something in East Anglia.

But yes, I'll be at Sheffield, with my Screedtastic fleet of bloody-nosed Imperials. Looking forward to it.

There's prizes for "best-dressed", apparently...

I am off to this one, will be sporting a Rebel fleet, probably with Dodonna in command. Not going for best dressed, unless jeans and a t-shirt wins it...hopefully best Admiral though...

When I saw the prizes, my first thought was, "so Garm....". But I am not willing to do that to myself.

I do have that Sith costume I wore to 'The Force Awakens' opening night...

I was planning on going, but there seems to be some discussion on whether it is a "basic" or "advanced" event, if it stays basic I will be there, if it becomes advanced, which means a 4 round and final 2 I won't be going.

1.5hrs travel time each way, 2hrs per game, lunch and the time between games, means getting home around 7.30pm, adding another 2hrs to it for a 4th game, then the 5th game for the top 2 is well beyond what I am willing to go through in one day.

it is a good point though - i wonder what time the local car parks close, would not want to have my car stuck if they go to advanced.

In the USA at least, the Regionals are Advanced events.

Aye, the real irony here is, I know of at least 4 people who said if it goes to 4 rounds and a final game for the top 2, they won't be going, and that will drop the numbers from 32 to 28, dropping the event back down to 3 rounds..the number of rounds it has been advertised as since it was put up.

I'll be there, bringing Imperials. Looking forward to it!

Actually, I should point out that I'm a Sheffield resident, so may be able to help with any questions regarding the local area. Just let me know!

The closest car park is probably the NCP on Matilda Street - literally 2 mins from the venue. Website is here. Can't quite work out their prices, but it seems to be £3.50 on a Saturday.

I'm going and looking forward(shaking in terror) at my first big, scary tournament! Any advice on fleet building for these things would be welcome please! I play Imperials. See you Saturday!

Most important rule is to take a fleet you know well and enjoy playing.

There are finer points of tournament fleet building, but thats not hugely important.

My first tournament too! Don't be nervous - if the local crowd are anything to go by, it'll be friendly and welcoming.

If it helps to know what someone in a similar position is doing, I'm taking a list that I've played with a couple of times and like. I've gone for ships that are reasonably sturdy and easy to use, kept the upgrades reasonably sensible so that they're easy to remember and make the most of (I'm always forgetting tractor beams), and am using a fighter setup I'm comfortable with. Keeping it simple basically, so that I can focus on my game rather than my fleet.

But like Ginkapo says, take something you'll have fun with. It is a game after all!

Thanks ginkapo and ceejlekabeejle! I've been doing my research and find, of course, so much advice that it's not possible to take it all: activation advantage, serious bid, ECMs and Gunnery Teams on SDs are a must, Rhymerball, counter-Rhymerball, TRC protection, Demo, counter-Demo, Clonisher threat - etc. etc. etc. ... arrrrgh!

So your advice to just pick a fleet that I'll enjoy flying is appreciated. Will focus on the 'winning' bit next year!

To be honest mate, I've just tried a few things and found what I feel works for me. Some people are devastating with a Rhymerball, where I've struggled. Others love Raiders, where I've had several games where I've not fired off more than a shot with one. I do, however, love Gladiators (both Demo and non-Demo), and find that I can fly them semi-convincingly. I've also got a fighter setup that I find works really well. So that's what I'm taking.

My one bit of advice would be, don't worry too much about a 'counter-X' fleet. It's great if you can think about how you might respond to a particular threat, but you might play all your games on Saturday, set up to swat Rhymerballs out of the sky, and not face a single one. So I'd focus on your ships' combinations and how you want them to work together and individually.
